The shows are part of LiveCity Vancouver, made up of two sites in Vancouver that will play host to family-geared programs as well as concerts.

David Lam Park in Yaletown will host most of the music events, while the downtown location at Cambie and Georgia streets will be more of an area where people can eat and drink and watch Olympic events on big screens. The Games will run from Feb. 12 to 28 in Vancouver and Whistler.

The free concert lineup has yet to be finalized, but it is due to be announced within the next few weeks.

Wilco’s Feb. 13 performance at David Lam Park will launch their 2010 “Trans Canada” tour. The band will then head east with eight Canadian stops, wrapping up on Mar. 3 in Halifax. Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Montreal, Ottawa, Hamilton, Ont. and London, Ont. are all also stops on the “Trans Canada” trek.

The band will also perform a handful northwestern U.S. dates at the same time, beginning with on Feb. 7 in Missoula, Mt.

Wilco performed last night, and will perform again tonight, in Toronto at Massey Hall as part of their North American tour.

Posted on andPOP:

After former Wilco member Jay Bennett was found dead in his home, an Illinois coroner determined the multi-instrumentalist died of an accidental overdose of painkillers, according to media reports.

Tests show that a drug that is prescribed to treat chronic pain, fentanyl, is what Bennett died from. The coroner’s office is investigating the death as an accident, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Just a month before his death, Bennett put up a post on his MySpace page and mentioned the pain he suffered continuously from a hip injury.

Bennett wrote, “A decade-plus of multiple nightly stage jumps and various other rock’n'roll theatrics had finally taken a toll that I could no longer deal with.”

In 2008, a division of Johnson & Johnson called PriCara recalled fentanyl patches after finding out some could leak and in turn lead to a potential overdose, according to reports from “The Tribune.”

Bennett was a songwriter, musician and engineer for alternative rock band Wilco from the mid 90’s until the release of “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” in 2002.

Posted on andPOP:

Wilco have confirmed that Canadian chanteuse Feist will make an appearance on their latest, as-yet-untitled album, which is slated for release in late June.

“Rumors and blogs regarding a guest appearance on (the track “You and I”) are, amazingly, quite true,” a posting on the band’s website stated Friday. “Feist does indeed lend a great vocal.”

It was reported earlier this month that the two acts hit it off when they met at last year’s Grammys and have kept in touch over the past year. “(Wilco singer Jeff) Tweedy is a huge fan of duets, and wanted to work a duet into the new album. Feist was their first call,” Rolling Stone’s Smoking Blog revealed.

According to Wilco’s recent posting, the alt-rockers have spent the last few weeks working on the album in Valencia, California. So far, the band has produced ten songs with producer/engineer Jim Scott, who also mixed their previous album, 2007′s “Sky Blue Sky.”

Wilco fans can also look forward to another release – the band’s live DVD, “Ashes of the American Flags,” which will be available exclusively at indie retail outlets on Record Store Day (April 18). It will be released to all retailers two weeks later.

Feist is up for two awards at this Sunday’s Juno Awards, the fan choice award and video of the year for “Honey Honey.”
