The Secret Service is possibly beginning a criminal investigation against the couple from Virginia who crashed a dinner at the White House, reports CBC. Michaele and Tareq Salahi made their way past security Tuesday to attend a dinner honouring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The pair were being filmed as potential candidates for Bravo reality show Real Housewives of D.C.
“As this moves closer to a criminal investigation, there’s less that we can say,” said Jim Mackin, a Secret Service spokesman. “I don’t want to jeopardize what could be a criminal investigation. We’re not leaving any option off the table at this point.”
Valerie Plame’s revenge against the White House is coming in the form of a lawsuit. Plame, the former CIA officer, is suing Vice President Dick Cheney and presidential advisor Karl Rove because she says they tried to destroy her.
The government “betrayed” her trust. “I’d much rather be continuing my career as a public servant than as a plaintiff in a lawsuit,” she told a news conference.
“We believe the time has come to hold those who use their official positions to exact personal revenge accountable and responsible for their actions,” said her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who is also suing.
