JOHN TRAVOLTA has blasted gay rights activists who plan to boycott his new movie HAIRSPRAY, insisting he is not homophobic.

The Saturday Night Fever star plays super-sized woman Edna Turnblad in the latest adaptation of the kitsch musical – but he has been accused of having “no business” reprising an iconic gay role by critics who claim his Scientology religion is homophobic.

However Travolta has hit back at critics of his faith and insists he is not even playing a gay icon.

He tells The Scoop, “There is nothing gay in this movie. I’m not playing a gay man.

“Scientology is not homophobic in any way. In fact it’s one of the more tolerant faiths. Anyone’s accepted.”

JOHN TRAVOLTA’s lawyers have fired back at criticism the actor and his wife KELLY PRESTON are lying about their son Jett’s alleged autism.

Reports claim the Pulp Fiction star refuses to publicly acknowledge the 15-year-old has the disability, because his controversial religion Scientology sees it as a “weakness,” and instead claim the teen is suffering from Kawasaki Disease.

But Travolta’s lawyer has hit back, saying, “The Travoltas are wonderful, loving parents, and their priority is their children. They have (taken) and they continue to take the best possible care of their children. To suggest anything to the contrary is very hurtful to a loving family and also would be false and defamatory.”

The couple also have a seven-year-old daughter Ella Bleu.

Hollywood star JOHN TRAVOLTA was so convincing as a woman on the set of the upcoming movie HAIRSPRAY, he had men constantly flirting with him.

Travolta stars in the remake of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical and spent four hours each day getting into costume for his role as EDNA TURNBLAD.

The 53-year-old says, “I had no particular urge to play a woman, but it made me realize how much power women have over men.

“Guys would flirt with me on set. You just need breasts and a bum and suddenly you have power! Everyone was feeling me. It was fake, of course, but I thought ‘This is weird.’”

Hollywood star JOHN TRAVOLTA was forced to make an emergency landing in Ireland on Monday while piloting his private jet from Germany to New York.

The actor, who was jetting back to the US after promoting his new movie WILD HOGS in Germany, landed safely at Shannon Airport after his Boeing 707 suffered “technical difficulties” mid-flight. He was said to be unhurt but shaken by the dramatic incident. Nevertheless, the 53-year-old hired another plane and completed the journey, while his jet was grounded for repairs.

A source reveals, “If he hadn’t made it to Shannon, it could have been the end of him. You could tell that he was very relieved.”

A spokesman for Shannon Airport confirms, “John Travolta was diverted to Shannon due to technical difficulties.”

Eight years ago the star suffered a similar mi-air drama when his plane lost an engine and he was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston.

JOHN TRAVOLTA looks to have another movie hit on his hands – as a fat woman.

He and co-stars of movie musical HAIRSPRAY, in which Travolta cross-dresses as EDNA TURNBLAD, received a five minute standing ovation at the ShoWest Convention in Las Vegas on Wednesday after guests were shown footage from the film.

Travolta joked, “We may be onto something. I think the fat make-up worked.”

The film also features MICHELLE PFEIFFER, QUEEN LATIFAH and newcomer NICOLE BLONSKY, who also attended the ShoWest cinema owners event.

Travolta Wife Set To Star In Dallas Remake

JOHN TRAVOLTA’s wife KELLY PRESTON is reportedly set to join her husband in the movie remake of eighties soap opera DALLAS.

Travolta is said to have asked Preston to take on the part of SUE ELLEN, long-suffering wife of his character JR EWING, since JENNIFER LOPEZ ditched the role last year.

A Hollywood source tells British newspaper Daily Express, “John has made it clear that he thinks Kelly would be perfect for the role of Sue Ellen and it’s now thought that she will end up with the part.

“It would certainly make interesting viewing as their real-life marriage obviously couldn’t be any more different from that of JR and his wife.”

Dallas the movie is scheduled to start filming later this year and will also star OWEN WILSON as BOBBY EWING.

Movie Review: Wild Hogs

“Wild Hogs,” director Walt Becker’s first movie since 2002, is somewhat of a lukewarm success. This latest Walt Disney comedy centres around four suburban friends from Cincinnati played by John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, Tim Allen and William H. Macy. When the biker wannabes get tired of failed relationships and mundane jobs, the four guys decide to be one with nature and ride their motorcycles all the way to the Pacific coast. The road trip turns sour when the group encounters the challenges of the wild and starts a feud with a real New Mexico biker gang, the Del Fuegos.

The movie showcases a few highs and a whole lot of lows. Macy lights up the screen with perfect comedic timing as Dudley Frank, the uber-geek computer programmer. Unfortunately, the rest of the Wild Hogs gang lacks Macy’s luster. There is nothing more difficult to watch for about two hours than Travolta and Allen dressed up in do-rags and leather jackets, like a couple of men suffering from midlife crises. Sorry Travolta, but the leather gear should have stopped at “Grease.” Even Del Fuegos chief and villain Ray Liotta fails to capture the swag of a true biker gang leader. Driving a motorcycle while in the midst of a real-life DUI charge did not bode well for the “Goodfellas” star. It is no wonder imdb.com reports that Disney was sued by Hells Angels after originally using the real notorious biker gang’s name in the film’s script, forcing the company to change the fictional biker gang’s name to Del Fuegos.

But the film’s funniest moments come courtesy of the minor characters. Look out for the gay cop, the sheriff and his identical twin sidekicks. It’s too bad the audience didn’t get to see much of these characters. In between the dentist jokes and “Brokeback Mountain” jabs, the movie musters to crack several short laughs. And while the story’s conflict resolves in a Disney-like fashion, the closing credits are worth staying for.

Travolta, J.Lo Could Star in ‘Dallas’ Movie

JT could become the new JR.

John Travolta has been offered the lead role in a movie remake of Dallas, according to Variety. Travolta would play JR Ewing, who was portrayed by Larry Hagman in the 1980s primetime soap opera.

Variety also reports that Jennifer Lopez has been offered the role of Sue Ellen and Luke Wilson was offered Bobby Ewing.

Shirley MacLaine may also join the cast as Eleanor Ewing.

The actors have not officially signed on yet, nor have they turned down the roles.

Filming of Dallas, to be directed by Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, Monster-in-Law), is scheduled to begin in November.

Toronto is one of the cities producers are looking at while considering where to film.

Officials in Dallas, Texas, recently started a campaign to lure the shooting to the title city.

“The thought of Dallas being made in Toronto is not a good idea,” Dallas Mayor Laura Miller told said last week, reports the Globe and Mail.

The “Shoot JR in Dallas” may be all for nothing, since Texas reportedly doesn’t offer tax breaks or financial incentives like Toronto does.

Hairspray Movie Coming to Toronto

The film adaptation of the Broadway musical Hairspray will be dancing its way into Toronto this summer.

Reportedly set to feature John Travolta, Billy Crystal and Queen Latifah, the film will be shot in both T.O. and Baltimore, according to the Toronto Star.

Although they?ve refused to confirm or refute casting and location details, producers are currently wooing Travolta to play the role of Edna Turnblad, which would require the actor to cross-dress.

They have also spoken with Crystal and Latifah about playing the parts of Wilbur, Edna?s husband, and Motormouth Maybelle, respectively.

This week New Line Cinema began holding auditions for the main character of Tracy Turnblad, a chubby girl who becomes an instant celebrity after appearing on a ?60s TV dance program in Baltimore.

The film?s budget is estimated to around $75 million (U.S.).

Robbie Williams to Star in Remake of Saturday Night Fever

Robbie Williams could be the next Tony Manero, John Travolta’s signature character from Satuday Night Fever.

A remake of the movie is in the works and the remaining Bee Gees members think Williams is perfect for the leading role.

The remake will be the Gibb brothers first project once they acquire the ownership of the back catalogue of the Bee Gee’s hits, later this year, according to thehollywoodnews.com.

“They have always wanted to remake the film and bring out a more modern version and Robbie is the ideal candidate to play Tony- he can sing, dance, is a good-looking lad and has loads of charisma,” said a friend of the band.
