Are you wondering what George Clooney’s next diplomatic effort will be? Well its Sudan. Clooney took to the Today show to talk about his growing concern for the region given the escalating civil war.

“I think it can be stopped,” the Oscar-winning actor and director said Tuesday on NBC’s Today show. “We stopped [the previous Darfur conflict] in 2005 with diplomacy. We didn’t stop it with soldiers. So, yes, if we get involved now, we have a shot.”

Clooney travelled to the region and believes undoubtedly the country is about to explode

“It doesn’t matter what I believe, because obviously I’m an actor,” he says. “The Secretary of State said it’s a ticking time bomb. The CIA said this is the next genocide if we’re not careful – it is the biggest risk. The president has said as much.”

Sandra Bullock appeared with Matt Lauer this morning on NBC’s “Today” to discuss her new charitable initiative of rebuilding a school in New Orleans, and also to talk about her new son Louis.

“No one understands the shift in priorities about having a child in your life that you are responsible for, until you have a child in your life,” she said. “It naturally shifts. It just shifted the first day I met him. It was like he’d been there the whole time, yet everything was different.”

Matt Lauer really gave Dina Lohan the gears this morning on “Today,” and the celebrity Mom didn’t like it one bit! The conversation was blatantly awkward and tense throughout the 11 minutes.

“Dina felt ambushed by Matt,” a family friend told PopEater after speaking with Lohan. “She was surprised how many tough questions he asked.”

Apparently Dina thought the conversation would be focused on Judge Marsha Revel’s alleged mishandling of her daughter’s case. Instead the conversation was focused on the public image of Lindsay, and Dina’s parenting skills.

“She didn’t understand why [Lauer] kept asking her those other questions — she knows she’s a great mother and Lindsay will get out of rehab soon,” the friend insists. “Everyone makes mistake, it’s just that Lindsay makes it into the papers.”

NBC’s ‘Today’ is now changing its rules to allow same sex couples to participate in its annual contest to apply for a wedding ceremony conducted on morning TV.

PopEater reports that NBC executives met with gay and lesbian activists to discuss this matter. NBC has extended the deadline to Monday to allow for more eligible couples to apply.

“We’re thrilled that `Today’ show’s ‘Modern Wedding Contest’ now recognizes what most fair-minded Americans have already concluded – a wedding celebrates love and commitment, whether the spouses are straight or gay,” said Jarrett Barrios, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

NBC has apparently received many upset viewer emails and phone calls for not allowing same sex couples to participate.

“Moving forward, we ensure that our future wedding contests will be inclusive to all couples,” NBC said.

Kate Gosselin of Jon and Kate Plus Eight appeared on Today, fighting back tears as she explained she can no longer pay her bills after her soon-to-be ex-husband, Jon, took $230,000 from their joint bank account, reports TMZ.

“You’ve left your children and their mother unable to pay for the roof over their head,” she said. “It’s unacceptable.”

Jon has claimed the children no longer want to do the reality show, but Kate said there was “wailing and sobbing” when she told them production had been stopped.

Kate’s lawyers are heading to court to demand Jon return the money.

Katie Couric will officially sign off as co-host of NBC’s Today Show on Wednesday.

After 15 years, Couric is leaving the Today Show to become the anchor of the CBS Evening News. She will begin at the news program in the fall.

Meredith Vieira of “The View” will take over Couric’s duties on Today in September.

Wednesday’s program will be a special one dedicated to Couric and her career at Today over the last decade and a half.

Tony Bennett and Martina McBride are set to perform.
