Everyone Who Stars in an NBC Show in a Super Bowl Commercial

If you’re not a fan of football, you may watch the Super Bowl for the amazingly expensive commercials.

Since the big game airs on NBC, actors from some of the biggest shows on the network got together for a musical number. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin from “30 Rock” started off, with appearances from the cast of “Community”, “Parks and Recreation”, “Smash” and my favourite: “Law and Order: SVU”.

The number ended with everybody out on the street dancing like they’re filming an episode of “Glee”. It’s cheesy but endearing. If you love to watch NBC, you’ll appreciate this commercial.

If you’ve seen “Valentine’s Day” and “New Year’s Eve” you’re familiar with the format. Every single celebrity in the world stars in a movie taking place on one of the most romantic days of the year. They hate their jobs and hate the fact that they’re single and lonely.

Such is the premise for “Martin Luther King Day”, except it’s not a real movie. It’s a spoof that will be features on an upcoming episode of “30 Rock”. Creator Tina Fey wanted to play up on all these ridiculously cheesy star-studded films that have come out this past year.

MLK Day is probably the least romantic holiday of the year (besides Ground Hog Day, of course) so watching Emma Stone and Andy Samberg whine about not having dates for the special day makes the other films look ludicrous.

As funny as this trailer may be, we should all be happy it’s not real.

Since its debut in 2006, “30 Rock” has become one of the comedy series of the millennium. This is partially due to SNL alumna Tina Fey and her brilliant writing.

Her character, Liz Lemon, is quite the hero among young women. Liz is geeky without being too irritating. She’s sarcastic without being too cruel. She’s a feminist without being overly feminine and prude. There are many reasons why young women look up to Tina Fey’s quirky character.

With all the Shit __ Says floating around on the internet, NBC took it upon them to edit a Shit Liz Lemon Says video, because Liz says a lot of shit and 100% of the time it’s hilarious. Take a look:

It’s the winter season and that means celebrities think it’s justified to roam around Hollywood in a ridiculously cheesy Christmas sweater. Said sweater does have it’s benefits. For example, if you’ve been at Nana’s house and ate a little too much roast beef, you can cover up your bloated belly with a Christmas sweater.

Some celebrities like Justin Bieber can look cute in just about anything. But men like Cee Lo Green and John Mayer only end up looking like clowns. You may argue Snoop Dogg doesn’t belong in a Christmas sweater because he’s “too gangster” but that’s precisely why he can rock it.

Tina Fey Hosts Special Mother’s Day Episode on ‘Saturday Night Live’

A very pregnant Tina Fey hosted a special Mother’s Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” last night.

To celebrate the event, Fey brought out fellow expectant mom Maya Rudolph for a belly-bump greeting, and a song devoted to their soon-to-be-born children.

The lullaby had lyrics such as “I cannot wait to know you,” then quickly segued into a raunchy ode to procreation: “You are the proof that we’ve been doin’ it….makin’ super sexy heat…your mom and daddy been doin’ it!” Mid-duet, the two even had a faux sonogram while each fetus, played by Keenan Thompson and Kristen Wiig, sang along in utero.

For months now the 30 Rock star has hidden her baby bump. Even her character on the show went through a fake pregnancy in order to cover for her boss’s wife. Fey finally admitted during a taping of the Oprah Winfrey show that she is in fact pregnant with her second child to accompany her five-year-old daughter Alicia. Celebrity-Gossip.net reports that Fey and her husband, Jeff Richmond are thrilled for the second child.

Fey is apparently already 5 months a long. She kept that secret under wraps pretty well for someone constantly in the spotlight. Hopefully this baby will inherit her good looks and comedic charm.

Too bad Alec Baldwin spilled the bad news about the end of 30 Rock we could have seen the Fey prodigies as stars. Baldwin also says that Fey will go on to have a successful writing and directing career so we will definitely be seeing more of her and that baby bump.

It looks like another 30 Rock cast member is in trouble with Sarah Palin!

Semi-crazy person Tracy Morgan is being berated for his comments on the SAG Awards red carpet last night. Morgan, who just days ago called the former Alaska Governor “good masturbation material,” used an aside in his interview with Guliana Rancic to shout “Sarah Palin, you’re the hottest MILF in the world!”

Rancic, taken aback, attempted to steer the conversation in a different direction but Morgan would not follow. “She’s a MILF!” he shouted again.

What? He’s just saying what we’re all thinking!

A statement was hurriedly released apologizing for Morgan’s comments, but we don’t think they needed an apology! As if MILF is the worst thing he could have said. Pfft. Palin, we think you got off easy on that one.

Yes we are calling the “Today’s” show Halloween effort a “skit.” Why? Because it’s so pathetic and corny, you think it was made by junior high students.

However, in their defense, they did have a fairly impressive cast participating. But wait, shouldn’t that mean this performance should have been impressive? Nevertheless judge for yourself. The clip below includes Meredith Vieira as Lady Gaga, Al Roker as ‘Superman,’ Ann Curry as Amelia Earhart and Natalie Morales as Justin Bieber.

Betty White Not ‘Over the Hill’ – Appearing on SNL with Jay-Z

Saturday night Betty White makes her first appearance hosting NBC’s iconic Saturday Night Live.

In an interview at a rehearsal, the 88-year-old actress tells MTV News, “The nerves are running rampant tonight because I’m scared to death, if you really want to know the truth”.

Saturday’s episode of SNL should be a good one. Not only is Betty White hosting, the show has Jay-Z for its musical guest. Speaking about the rapper, Betty White continued, “I’m very excited about meeting him,” she said, “and I bragged to all my friends who think I’m over the hill, well, I did a sketch with Jay-Z.”

This week’s SNL is a Mother’s Day special, reports MTV News, and some of the show’s biggest past and present female names will be making appearances, the likes of which include: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.

Justin Bieber Thrilled to be Alongside Tina Fey on SNL

This past weekend, Justin Bieber rocked “Saturday Night Live” and acted alongside Tina Fey. Quite possibly the best of both worlds for the 16-year-old from little Stratford, Ontario.

According to MTV News, Bieber was thrilled to be participating in “SNL,” and was also very excited to be acting with Fey.

“It was fun, just acting [with Fey],” Bieber said. “It was cool to get to be a part of ‘SNL.’”

Typically, musical guests on “Saturday Night Live” are granted two performances over the course of the entire show. But, things were different for Bieber.

He appeared in several opening skits, as well as performing his music. One skit in particular, Bieber plays a mediocre science student, and what he lacks in academics he makes up for with his “dreamy Christmas elf” looks. This causes his teacher, Fey, to fantasize about a romantic life between them, involving panini sandwiches.

“It was hilarious and it was a lot of fun to do,” Bieber said, regarding the skit. “I just tried to act and I thought of bad, bad thoughts [to distract myself].”

Most importantly, for those in love with the teen sensation, beware. Bieber had an easy time flirting with Fey in the skit.

“She’s cool,” Bieber said. “And she’s cute too!”

In just over 24 hours, Justin Bieber will be making his debut performance on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest, with host Tina Fey.

It’s a fairly safe bet that Bieber will be involved with the show beyond just playing a couple of songs. As the world’s biggest pop star, expect the SNL writers to milk his appearance for all its worth.

Although many people may not like or respect Bieber, expect him to have a pretty good performance on the show. As you can see in the clips below, he doesn’t look uncomfortable telling jokes or working with comedians.

Seth Meyers Loves to Make Fun of Barack Obama

Seth Meyers, head writer for NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, said he was pleased with the fresh material provided by President Barack Obama, reports CBC.

“I was here for the eight years of the Bush era,” said Meyers, who joined the cast in 2001 after doing improvisational theatre in Chicago. “While it started fun, it got a little redundant for a lot of comedians. Anything new is great for us. That being said, you need to get to know someone before you can poke fun at them and we’re getting to know Obama more. The trickiest thing with Obama is he has a great sense of humour, he’s so self-aware and he may beat comedians to the punchline.”

The on-air anchor of Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update said there can sometimes be a fine line when writing about current events and trying to remain tactful. “I think you have to follow the news and we try very hard never to let a story pass without taking a crack at it. We want our audience to know that no matter what the news is, we’re going to try to make a joke about it. If you watch cable news, I feel like they’re trying harder to be entertaining and I feel like comedy shows are trying harder to be accurate. You definitely want to research your points so your joke doesn’t feel like an attack. Once you make jokes that seem like mean for meanness sake, you lose your authority.”

Meyers became co-head writer of the show with Tina Fey in 2006. He then assumed the position of head writer when Fey left the program.

SIMPLY THE BEST

There comes a time each year where entertainment pundits everywhere reflect on the past 12 months of pop culture. We dissect the highs and lows, we place celebs on their respective naughty and nice lists and we relish the chance to give you our dissertation on the year’s hits and misses.

So basically, I’ve been waiting for this since New Year’s Day, ‘08.

It was a big year. Some monumental shit went down in 2008. America christened its first black president (holler!), Beijing brought sexy back to the Olympics (yeah!) and Canada proved its political system is just as screwed up- if not more- as anywhere else in the world (say what?). But this isn’t about politics; it’s about good ol’ fashioned fun.

It’s about celebrating the best movies, music, celebrity couples and Hollywood gossip.

So without further ado, here are my picks for the BEST of 2008.

5. RDJ

Robert Downey Jr. had a comeback of epic proportions this year. It was unexpected, it was career reviving and it was just plain kick-ass. Not only did Iron Man remind us that blockbuster movies can still be GOOD but it also provided the perfect vehicle to allow Sir RDJ to reintroduce himself. He went on to paint his face black and take on a role that could have seriously offended a whole lot of people but instead, he made us laugh hysterically. He’s nominated for a Golden Globe in ’09 and he’s also set to star in a Sherlock Holmes remake helmed by Guy Ritchie. Looks like this comeback is a keeper.

4. High School Musical 3

Obviously. If you frequent the Prerogative, you know I love High School Musical. So, when the franchise finally made the leap from TV movie to big-screen blockbuster, let’s just say it was a highlight. 2008 proved to be a good year for my boyfriend, Zac Efron- who would be number one on this list if I could think of a legitimate reason he should be, other than his obvious sexiness. Anyway, HSM 3 provided some good, wholesome fun for the entire family and reminded everyone that the year belonged to the tweens. They dictated the tabloid headlines, the top spots at the box office and the hits on the music charts. HSM’s soundtrack broke records and sold millions. To all the haters: It’s a classic people, BOW DOWN.

3. Brad and Angelina

Hollywood’s reigning royalty. The King and Queen of Tinseltown. The best of the best celebrity couples. Why? Because they know how to use the paparazzi in their favour. They know how to work their images. And best of all, they’ve got talent. 2008 showcased all of the above for the Sexiest Couple Alive. They welcomed twins, Knox and Vivienne, and sold the first pictures of the babies to People Magazine for an obscene amount of money. The media frenzy surrounding the twins ruled headlines in ’08 and solidified Brangelina as the couple everyone cares about. Career-wise, they both starred in movies that have Oscar-potential and did well at the box office. Oh yeah, and they refrained from talking about Brad’s ex, WhatsHerName, because no one cares.

2. Tina Fey/Sarah Palin

So I know I said this isn’t about politics but Tina Fey’s dead-on impersonation of that Alaskan governor we all loved to hate (or just hated) needs its much-deserved props. It was the best thing to happen to SNL this year. Heck, the best thing to happen to television, period. After Fey got people to notice her hilarity, 30 Rock got the attention it deserves and Sarah Palin got the ridicule that she deserved. Ya’ know?

1. Dark Knight

Do I need to elaborate? It was the best movie of the year, hands down. Christian Bale is the man. Comic book movies must forever bow down to the Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan is the best director in Hollywood. Heath Ledger blew us all away with his portrayal of the Joker. His death resonated so much more with the world because we realized the potential lost, the talent untapped. I just hope these rumours of Eddie Murphy playing the Riddler in the next one are false. Please, please don’t ruin this one- I still haven’t recovered from the massive letdown that was Quantum of Solace.

Tina Fey Is Entertainer Of The Year

Tina Fey has had a big year and now she has a title to show for it — the Associated Press’s Entertainer of the Year.

The comedian was chosen by AP members as the top entertainer of 2008 in terms of cultural and entertainment impact.

“Tina Fey is such an obvious choice,” said Sharon Eberson, entertainment editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “She gave us funny when we really needed it and, in a year when women in politics were making huge strides, Fey stood out in the world of entertainment.”

Nabbing the runner-up spot was Robert Downey Jr., who had two box-office hits in the form of “Iron Man” and “Tropic Thunder,” while the late Heath Ledger got the third-most votes with his performance as the Joker in “The Dark Knight.”

Fey topped the list for a busy year that included her first starring role on the big screen in “Baby Mama.”

In September, she won three Emmys for “30 Rock” — which she produces, stars and write for — including best comedy series, best lead actress and best writing in a comedy series.

And of course, she won laughs and huge ratings for her impersonation of Sarah Palin on her former show, “Saturday Night Live.”

“She simultaneously entertained us with her wit and put a mirror up to the nation during the election and made us think about what was going on,” said Scott Shive, assistant features editor at the Lexington Herald-Leader. “She is the epitome of the smart kid coming out on top for once.”

The accolades keep coming — Fey was recently nominated for both a Golden Globe and a SAG Award.

Last year’s AP Entertainer of the Year title went to Stephen Colbert.

Oprah to Guest Star on ’30 Rock’

Even though she’s busy giving out cars like they’re breath mints, being attacked by Tom Cruise on a couch and being the queen of daytime, Oprah Winfrey is still making time to appear on primetime this fall.

Oprah Winfrey is in final talks to appear as a guest star on Tina Fey’s hit show, 30 Rock, reports E!

Oprah would make her 30 Rock debut on Nov. 6 and has already been written into the second episode script.

Winfrey will be playing herself appearing in scenes opposite Tina Fey’s character, Liz Lemon.

Oprah will be joined by other guest stars this fall including the friendly, Jennifer Aniston, who will appear in the third episode. Will Arnett will also reprise his Emmy-nominated role, Devin Banks for the season premiere.

The Oprah Winfrey Show will begin its 23rd season on Monday, September 8.

Steve Carell, Tiny Fey To Share ‘Date Night’

Comedic heavyweights Steve Carell and Tina Fey are joining forces for the upcoming movie “Date Night.”

According to Variety, Carell and Fey have been cast in the 20th Century Fox comedy as a married couple whose routine date night turns into something much more than just a dinner and movie.

The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, whose credits include “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Night at the Museum,” as well as the latter’s upcoming sequel.

“I wanted to do a relatable, grounded character comedy about marriage and the lengths we go to preserve the spark,” Levy told Daily Variety.

“Tina and Steve are smart and relatable, and the tone of their comedy perfectly fits this film.”

Carell is known for starring turns in “The 40 Year Old Virgin” and “The Office,” while Fey is an “SNL” alumni and writer-star on “30 Rock.”

“Date Night” will begin shooting next year, when the two stars are on hiatus from their respective TV shows.
