Even if you fancy yourself a pop culture expert, you might be surprised how easy it is to be fooled into thinking some ‘regular’ dude is a celebrity. That’s exactly what New York City’s Brett Cohen proved, when he pranked a bunch of people in Times Square.
It was simple really. Brett merely cleaned himself up, donned a nice suit and gathered an entourage that included security, photographers, bodyguards and two pushy assistant. While Brett was inside NBC Studios, his assistants and the paparazzi started creating a buzz outside. When asked who the celebrity was, they didn’t provide an answer. So the people outside were left to make something up or take a photo, hoping their Facebook friends could identify him. A crowd formed even before the fake celebrity emerged.
His brand new fans were convinced they knew who he was too — “He’s the guy with the single on the radio right?” “No, actually he’s the guy from Spider-Man, I know it.” They lined up for photos and followed him around the square.
It goes to show how easily we’re drawn into the crowd mentality — fantasizing over someone without really knowing who they are, just because everyone else is. Would you fall for it?
Watch it here:
Snooki is going to have her way for New Year’s, kind of. Although the “Jersey Shore” star wanted to be dropped in a big ball for New Year’s in Times Square, she will now be dropped in more familiar surrounds, Seaside Heights, N.J.
A big ball in Seaside Heights is currently being constructed for Snooki. Entertainment Weekly spoke to Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment who explained why Snooki could not pull the stunt at their New Year’s bash.
“It was never intended or requested for Snooki to be in the actual New Year’s Eve Ball in Times Square,” the producers say in a statement. “The request to have her in a separate ball on a set-back roof came too late and was too impractical to fit in to our outdoor events.”
“Jersey Shore’s” Snooki is going to have to find another way to bring in the new year after her hamster stunt was banned from Times Square. Snookers had originally planned to spend New Year’s Eve in a glass ball, like a hamster.
“The Snooki ball drop isn’t going to happen in Times Square,” an insider tells PopEater. “At midnight, the crowd and the media will be watching Mayor Bloomberg, Dick Clark and the official ball drop, not a cast member of the ‘Jersey Shore.’”
“No way would they allow this to take place. MTV rents a position in the Square that night like every other media outlet. You can’t get access to the Square without an official credential. You have to play by the official rules or you get kicked out, which is exactly what has happened to MTV and Snooki,” an insider tells PopEater.
Jessica Biel has climbed to the top of many guys hearts, and claimed them. She also may have climbed to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, but now Biel wants to climb bigger, reports People.
“I’m thinking about trekking to Everest base camp,” Biel said Saturday, at the 13th Annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women in New York’s Times Square. “That’s kind of the next goal.”
Back in January, Biel climbed Africa’s tallest peak, accompanied by actor Emile Hirsch and members of the United Nation Foundation. The climb was held to raise awareness and funds for the global water crisis.
Although Biel wants to tackle this summit, she admits that she hasn’t continued her pre-climb training.
“I’m not keeping up the same type of workout because it was a little different than what I normally do,” Biel said.
So, hopefully the star can manage to get back into shape and conquer Everest. Keep your fingers crossed.
