‘Alice in Wonderland’ Holds the Number One Box Office Spot

“Alice in Wonderland” has proven that its strong box office performance last week is no fluke.

The film earned an additional $62 Million last week, making its total box office gross $208 Million, according to Hollywood Insider. 13 percent of that money came from the IMAX 3-D screens.

“Alice in Wonderland” has become Tim Burton’s highest grossing film, beating out 2005’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” No bet the executives at Disney are very happy they produced this film.

Tabloid Apologizes to Helena Bonham Carter

A British newspaper issued an apology to Alice in Wonderland Helena Bonham Carter for printing unfounded claims about her home life with Tim Burton, reports Perez Hilton. The piece said the family was living in separate houses with Bonham Carter in one, Burton in another and their two children and a nanny in a third. The truth is that the family lives in one large house with three interconnected living spaces.

“The comment that this arrangement is ‘not so much eccentric as chilling,’ is unfounded and we accept that Helena Bonham Carter is a caring mother and apologize to her for suggesting otherwise,” the editors of the paper said in a statement.

‘Alice in Wonderland’ Is a Blockbuster

“Alice in Wonderland” is a money maker, making over $68 Million at the box office.

The Tim Burton film topped original box office expectations by the Disney executives. However one cannot be completely surprised by these results with people lining up for 11am screenings. Additionally there was strong support from British audiences which brought in $16.8 Million, even though the film almost wasn’t released in theatres there.

With the success of “Avatar”, it appears that 3D movies are the next generation of film telling, and audiences seem very excited.

Alice in Wonderland Boycott Reversed

British cinema chain Odeon has reached a deal with Walt Disney Studios regarding the 3-D movie Alice in Wonderland, reversing a previously announced boycott of the film, reports CBC. The flick, which opens across Europe and North America March 5, will be screened in Odeon’s theatres throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and Italy.

Director Tim Burton’s take on the classic story premiered Thursday night in London’s West end at Leicester Square cinema, owned by Odeon, mere hours after the agreement was reached.

Following “detailed negotiations with the Walt Disney Company Ltd., an enduring agreement has been reached encompassing all the different aspects of both companies’ commercial relationship,” Odeon announced in a statement.

The United Kingdom’s largest theatre chain announced its plans to boycott the film in three countries early this week because of Disney’s plans to release the movie on DVD 12 weeks after its theatrical debut. The typical time span between when a movie hits theatres and when it is appears in stores on DVD is 17 weeks. Cineworld and Vue, Odeon’s rival theatre chains, agreed to a 13-week window between the opening and the DVD release.

Johnny Depp Doesn’t Shower

Johnny Depp and his partner Vanessa Paradis prefer not to shower, choosing to stay ”unruly” whenever they can, reports Perez Hilton. Depp, who has been promoting his upcoming film Alice in Wonderland, says he and Paradis are happy to just live peacefully.

“We have a great place in the South of France,” he said. “It’s a little hamlet – only 45 acres – and I don’t do anything. I’ve not left the property for three months at a time. I literally just wake up, go out, check the garden and see the vegetables growing. It’s a pristine existence in terms of simplicity. There’s no talk of movies or work and, infinitely more important, the telephone never rings. It really is a beautiful, simple life.”

In case the South of France ever proves too stressful for the Pirates of the Caribbean star, he’s purchased his own island in the Caribbean.

“Like everything else in my life it wasn’t planned, it just kind of happened. I went on vacation to escape with my kiddies and my girl and someone said that there was an island down the road for sale. I said, ‘Let’s go see it.’ I looked at it, I walked on it and I was done. It had to be. It came at the perfect moment. The island provides me with simplicity and somewhere I can go where no one is looking at me or pointing a camera or a finger at me. I can just be. When we’re there we do absolutely nothing.

“I feel I’m not getting photographed by the paparazzi enough,” the quirky actor added, presumably sarcastically. “So I figure I’ll go and hang out in Venice with Brad and Angelina.”

Depp began filming his next film, The Tourist, with Angelina Jolie this week. The film is expected to be released early next year.

Alice in Wonderland, starring Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway, and directed by Tim Burton, will hit theatres March 5.

Avril Lavigne added to Alice In Wonderland Soundtrack

According to Variety.com, Avril Lavigne will release a new track titled “Alice Underground” for the soundtrack of Tim Burton’s upcoming remake of Alice In Wonderland.

Lavigne joins a stellar team of musicians on the soundtrack f0r the new adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic, which already includes a collaboration of Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, and a brand new track from All Time Low.

Despite the trio of bands and their pop-punk natures, Wentz assured MTV that his work with Hoppus was outside the box.

“We did a song for ‘Alice in Wonderland, and it sounds nothing like Blink or Fall Out Boy,” he said. “Mark understands songwriting on a completely different level. It’s awesome to have a chance to sit in a room with him and watch him work out a melody.”

The, right now, untitled track from All Time Low was written specifically for the movie.

The remaining unknown artists are said to be named a few at a time until the movie’s release.

Alice in Wonderland hits theaters on March 5.

Two More Join Tim Burton’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’

Director Tim Burton has found his Wonderland queens in the form of Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter.

The two are the latest cast additions to Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” which will rework the classic Lewis Carroll tale using a combination of live action and performance-capture technology.

As previously reported, Johnny Depp will play the Mad Hatter in the movie, while Australian newcomer Mia Wasikowska has signed on as Alice.

Hathaway is playing the benevolent White Queen, while Bonham Carter will get to say the famous line “Off with their heads!” as her sister, the Red Queen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway’s character, who is deposed and banished by her sibling, recruits Alice to slay a creature known as the Bandersnatch.

The movie is currently shooting and will hit theatres in March 2010.

Hathaway, who is picking up Oscar buzz for her performance in the just-released “Rachel Getting Married,” will next appear in the supernatural thriller “Passengers.”

Bonham Carter has frequently worked with Burton, her fiancé, and has several films in post-production, including “Terminator: Salvation” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

‘Alice’ Cast In Tim Burton’s ‘Wonderland’ Adaptation

Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is set to chase the White Rabbit and have tea with the Mad Hatter in her latest role.

The 18-year-old newcomer is in final negotiations to star in Tim Burton’s adaptation of the classic fantasy novel “Alice in Wonderland,” ending an exhaustive search for the Disney movie’s lead.

Scripted by Linda Woolverton (“The Lion King”), the big-budget film will be presented in Disney Digital 3-D and mix live-action and performance-capture footage.

Burton’s take on the 1865 tale by Lewis Carroll, formally known as “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” isn’t the first time the director is adapting a literary work for the big screen — his 2005 movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was based on the well-known novel by Roald Dahl.

Filming is slated to begin this November, with a target release date of 2010.

Wasikowska, who made her TV debut in the Aussie series “All Saints,” is currently a regular on HBO’s “In Treatment.”

She recently finished shooting her role as a young Amelia Earhart in the Hilary Swank-starring biopic “Amelia,” and will appear opposite Daniel Craig in the war drama “Defiance,” due in theatres in December.

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton Together Again

Actor Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton are teaming up once again. The two will collaborate on a film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s stage musical, “Sweeney Todd.”

DreamWorks studio made the announcement on Thursday. The film is slated for release in late 2007.

Depp and Burton have worked together many times before, most notably on films like “Edward Scissorhands,” “Sleepy Hollow,” and most recently on “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

Depp will play the film’s title character, a razor-wielding barbar who seeks revenge against a judge for wrongful imprisonment.

Though many versions of the story, which stems from British lore, have been produced, the film will be based on Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” interpretation. It was a hit on Broadway in 1979, earning eight Tony Awards.
