Imagine going to school to find out that Will Smith was visiting…and that he would rap the ’Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ theme song. Wouldn’t that be surreal?
That’s what happened to some lucky ladies of St Martin-in-the-fields High School for Girls in south London this past week. While it’s been more than 20 years since Fresh Prince first aired, the students were treated with an awesome performance by Smith who at the age of 44, is still getting jiggy with it.
According to The Independent, Member of Parliament Chuka Umunna, who is an admitted fan of the show, planned the assembly and arranged for the actor’s appearance.
Smith was in London accompanying his son Jaden on the UK leg of his tour with Justin Bieber.
Now if this happened to me in real life, I think I would be pinching myself for days!! ’Fresh Prince’ may be over, but the legacy of the show will certainly live on!!
If you were born in the nineties and you owned a television growing up, I can guarantee that you can sing at least 85 per cent of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song. Should you ask your parents to sing it, I’m 85 per cent sure they wouldn’t have a clue what you were talking about. And that’s what got 19-year-old Travis Clawson in trouble.
The boy triggered a lockdown at his Pennsylvania school after a receptionist trying to confirm an appointment thought his voicemail said “shooting people outside of the school” when the recording played the song (the actual line is “shooting some b-ball”).
The receptionist then called 911 and Clawson was arrested, but was released once the message was explained. This is a lesson to all parents/adults: maybe you should pay closer attention to the so-called garbage us young folk watch, if only to prevent embarrassing misunderstandings such as this one.
Every time I tune into the Game of Thrones, I always have to watch the opening credits. With its awesome theme song and visual outline of the seven kingdoms, there’s seriously no better way to start off another episode of intense drama.
So what could possibly heighten the show’s excitement than the already epic opening sequence? Why of course, a cat meowing along to the Game of Thrones theme song!
With Arya the cat hitting the right notes, it’s really a wonder why the talents of cats aren’t featured enough on television themes.
