The end is near for “Survivorman.”

Les Stroud, the Canadian host of the Science Channel series, will call it quits after wrapping up shooting of the show’s third season in Papua New Guinea this month.

In “Survivorman,” Stroud spends a week alone in remote areas around the world, battling the elements with little or no food and water or equipment.

He has braved the wilderness in Africa, South and North America and Asia, overcome heatstroke and survived encounters with jaguars and lions.

Stroud, 47, explained his decision to end the show to Reuters: “It takes a lot out of me as I really do what I do for real, with no camera crew, no nights in hotels like others do, and it takes a toll on my body.”

“You can only do seven days surviving without food a certain number of times a year. I’m pleased with what I have done, I’ve been copied around the world, but 25 times I’ve not eaten anything for a week while sleeping on rocks. I need to move on.”

The former wilderness survival instructor and music video producer already has his eye on future projects. He recently released a book called “Survive! – Essential Skills and Tactics to Get You Out of Anywhere – Alive!” and is planning a new show that will see him follow in the footsteps of famous explorers.
