Police are still looking for suspects in the shooting of Marion “Suge” Knight, CEO of Death Row Records.
Currently, Knight is in intensive care at Mount Sinai Medical Centre in Miami, where he is resting after undergoing surgery to remove a bullet from his leg and repair a fractured bone.
Knight was shot in the leg while celebrating at a party being held for Kanye West, shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday in the Shore Club.
The incident occured shortly before the MTV Video Music Awards.
A spokesperson from the Miami Beach Police Department, Bobby Hernandez, said some witnesses were unwilling to speak with the authorities.
“Not everyone has been cooperating with us,” he told the Miami Herald. “We don’t have any physical description. We don’t know how many subjects were involved, which is mind boggling, with all those people around.”
According to reports from the Miami Herald, Knight was sitting at a table with friends when a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt walked up to him and fired several shots.
The 2005 MTV Video Music Awards opened with a performance from Green Day, and closed with them collecting the award for Best Music Video.
The punk-rock band led all artists with seven wins, including Best Group Video and Best Rock Video.
Kelly Clarkson, Missy Elliott and the Gorillaz each won two awards. Kanye West, a favourite going into the show Sunday night for his “Jesus Walks” video, won just one, Best Male Video. He later performed “Golddigger” with Jamie Foxx.
Little was said about Sunday morning’s shooting. Suge Knight was shot in the leg at a party held in honour of West. He remains in a Miami hospital but is in stable condition.
The most controversial moments came from Fat Joe and members of G-Unit, who exchanged barbs. While presenting, Fat Joe said he felt very safe with all the security in the building, “courtesy of G-Unit.” Towards the end of the show, Tony Yayo and 50 Cent yelled expletives at Joe after performing.
Diddy hosted the show, proclaiming “anything can happen.” Yet, the biggest surprise sadly came in the form of a performance by MC Hammer.
Other performances included My Chemical Romance, Mariah Carey, Coldplay, Ludacris, The Killers and R. Kelly acting out his “Trapped in the Closet” saga.
Clarkson ended the show performing “Since You’ve Been Gone,” while water splashed down on her and the audience nearby.
Don Omar, Tego Calderon and Daddy Yankee also performed briefly in a reggaeton segment.

The MTV Video Music Awards got a lot more interesting early Sunday morning, when news broke close to 2 a.m. that Suge Knight, the rap mogul and head of Death Row Records, was shot in the leg at Kanye West’s party in Miami.
MTV says the shooting won’t affect the awards show, but you can bet the incident will be on the minds of everyone as they walk down the white carpet.
When West is interviewed on the carpet prior to the show, see if MTV has the gonads to ask him about the shooting.
Same goes for Diddy, the host of the show. It’s no secret that Suge hated Diddy’s most coveted artist, Notorious B.I.G., and some still think Knight had some involvement in B.I.G.’s death. If Diddy does not address it on the white carpet, watch to see if he mentions it onstage.
There could be a shooter in the audience for all we know. The person who shot Knight, and who allegedly fired six bullets, was not apprehended and police have not said if they have any suspects.
But keep your eyes on West for another reason. His performance is the most anticipated out of all of them. Expect Jamie Foxx to join him, which means he’ll be performing “Golddigger.” Alicia Keys may also join them at some point.
Mase may join 50 Cent during his performance. Mase is close to signing a deal to join 50′s G-Unit record label. Word is 50 Cent’s performance is going to be HOT. Not because of him or female dancers, but because of a stage full of flames.
Expect the hurricane to be well represented inside, as Kelly Clarkson will perform under a simulated rain fall. Prediction: Clarkson and the audience will get very wet, which will divert your attention from an otherwise mediocre performance.
For Coldplay’s performance, Chris Martin doesn’t want to limit himself to just the stage. If you are in the audience, have your cell phone cameras ready because Mr. Paltrow may just walk by your seat.
Don’t expect any flaws in The Killers’ performance. Word is, they pre-taped it.
Expect Usher to get a lot of camera time, even though he’s not performing.
