Effortless style is easy to have during the warmer seasons. Mostly because you can just put on a short dress paired with some cute flats and you’re good to go. Emma Watson put the trendy in casual while she was shopping in New York City this week. Love her pairing of the drawstring pants, a simple striped tee and cardigan. Those soft yellow loafers just add to this actress’s effortless style.

it’s turning out that 2013 is indeed Beyoncé’s year. A Destiny’s Child reunion, then Super Bowl Half Time show, an HBO documentary, her own meme (courtesy of a bad PR move), a Vogue cover and now a high profile H&M campaign, these are all the reasons why we’re supposed to bow down to Beyoncé, right?
The above photo is just a small peek at the actual ads. The singer looks just as gorgeous as ever sprawled on a beach chair and dressed in very spring and summer appropriate looks which I’m sure the public will eat up once it gets a little warmer (kind of having a little bit of climate envy over here).
According to MTV Style, Beyoncé shot the campaign for the Swedish cheap and chic retailer in the Bahamas earlier this year. H&M will strategically release the full campaign as Queen Bey kicks off her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour on April 15th. The retailer will peg it all as “Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M.”
Who runs the world? Beyoncé.
We all love Zooey Deschanel for a different reason. It could be because of her hilarious portrayal of Jess on New Girl (if you don’t watch this show you need to re-evaluate your life), or her adorably quirky style, or it could be because she makes great music.
Her band, She & Him (the “she” being Deschanel and the “him” being M. Ward) has just released their new single “Never Wanted Your Love,” and I have to say, it’s amazing! I love how her unique personality translates so well to this type of music.
Check it out here:
Like what you hear? Below are a few more great songs from the indie-folk duo:
Remember back when we were all in elementary school and would go to school and feel so cool because we got a new jean jacket, or a slap bracelet, or new Pokemon cards to brag about? I think it’s time to sit back and think about all those things we wore that were actually pretty ridiculous. For example I don’t remember it ever been cold enough to wear fleece pants. I remember they came in different colours— and I think I had three blue pairs.
How about those Gap fleece sweaters that we all wanted but only the cool kids with money could afford? I think they were the TNA sweaters of the 90s come to think of it. Now, about the gaucho pants and tie cardigans… I am not sorry. They were cute and comfortable at that time, I SWEAR. My sister and I MAY have had matching gaucho pants. Just maybe.
In the 90s all we did was trade. We traded bracelets, cards, snacks, and I distinctly remember trading chokers and going home with a different one every day around my neck. I’ll take a classic Tiffany necklace over a choker any day, and I much prefer chiffon to fleece – but that’s just me.

Colour-blocking is a must this season and reality star Kourtney Kardashian was camera ready while shopping filming her reality show in Miami with Kim Kardashian. Kourtney stepped out into the sun in an olive green peplum skirt blocking it with a simple salmon coloured blouse. The key to colour blocking is finding accessories that are the same colour. Too many different colours can result in you looking like a clown (not cute). The black heels, bag and sunglasses are perfect for this pop-of-colour ensemble.

Three words: short, blonde and shaved. These were the hair trends this year rocking the celeb world. It’s kind of hard to tell who inspired who this year with all these similar and daring hair cuts. However, what I love about these celebrity do’s is that they can sometimes have meaning and inspiration behind them.
Here are 10 awesome celebrity hair makeovers:
1. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is known for her outrageous makeovers, but this one has quite a bit of meaning behind it. The singer shaved a portion of her head in memory of Terry Richardson’s mom, Annie Lomax. Gaga tweeted a photo of her new hair with a special message to her friend.
2. CeCe Frey
CeCe Frey shocked “X-Factor” viewers when she debuted her new platinum blonde look. CeCe isn’t new to daring looks as she often paints leopard print spots on her face. Fierce!
3. Anne Hathaway
Bless Anne Hathaway’s soul. I fell in love with Anne Hathaway this summer because she was a total babe in The Dark Knight Rises. When I saw her with her pixie cut, courtesy of her role in the upcoming film Les Miserables, my heart was sent into flutters. She really can rock anything.
4. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus sent the twitterverse into a buzz of love-hate feuding with her new do. Despite what anyone says, I think it’s awesome that Miley’s new haircut was able to give her a lot of confidence.
5. Marina and the Diamonds
Marina and the Diamonds completely transformed her entire wardrobe for her new album, Electra Heart. In her video for “Fear and Loathing,” Marina is seen chopping off her thick, black hair and opting for a cute bob. The move was daring, but her transformation totally goes with the theme of her album.
The best thing about Fall? Layers! Olivia Palermo was out and about in New York last week —before hurricane Sandy came to town — sporting leather trousers and an oversized sweater…the two must-haves this season! Leather is great because it enhances your “I’m super lazy today” look, depending on what top you’re wearing. Pairing these pants with an oversized sweater or a simple, white coloured blouse is the perfect way to get that look that effortless style fashionistas everywhere want to possess.

It’s fashion week here in Toronto so why not do it “strike-a-pose” style by getting in touch with your masculine side? Emma Roberts wore a Nanette Lepore “In the Mix” power suit to the Vogue Eyewear and CFDA unveiling of the “Emma” sunglasses in New York last week. She topped off her ultra-chic look with a pair of cream-coloured cat-eye sunglasses and a large orange envelope clutch, which adds a nice pop to this dark grey jacquard pantsuit.

Taylor Swift is basically living my dream in her new video for “Begin Again.” The singer lives in Paris and bikes along the Seine to a romantic looking cafe, where she writes letters and sips vanilla lattes. We’re happy Taylor found love again, most notably because her new love is smoking hot but also because her ex sounds like a gigantic douche.
The video is beautifully filmed and her thoughtful vintage-y outfits are eye candy. Check out the video below and all of her looks underneath.

As the weather cools down, the layers pile on. From combat jackets to fall coats, the streets of Toronto are flooded with cozy fall faves. Our fashion columnist, Sabina Sohail, scoured her college campus in search of the most stylish jackets.
Do: Combat jacket
Cassandra Juradinho, 22 — Once again, the combat jacket does not disappoint. It pretty much goes with everything — even a pink chiffon top. Pairing it with the briefcase bag is almost too perfect.
Do: A pop of colour
Maria Siassina, 20 — As much as we love the dull colours of fall, it’s nice to see a little bit of colour every now and then! The blue and purple stripes on her blazer really help enhance this black-and-white ensemble.
Do: Vest-hoodie
Jeyan Jeganathan, 21 — Vests may be too formal for school (like that’s stopping anyone) but a vest-hoodie adds the “cool” element to your look.

Fall is all about accessorizing. And Nikki Reed’s look at the Axe event in LA proves just that. She may have opted out of wearing a dress, but she still kept things girly in her semi-sheer white top that was half tucked into her skinnies! The bright accessories added a nice pop to the simple outfit. Talk about not-too-casual-not-too-dressy, right?

Red will never go out of style. It’s a colour that remains classic, regardless of the season. Taylor Swift rocked a red-inspired look in Paris while filming her “Begin Again” music video, off her upcoming album, aptly called Red .
Like Taylor, this look is simple yet stylish. You can rarely go wrong with bold red pants, regardless of what you pair them with. However, be careful with secondary colours because they don’t always complement red. Unless of course you’re colour-blocking — then by all means, knock yourself out.

Confession: Sometimes I pay more attention to other girls’ outfits than to what my professor is saying. What can I say? I’m obsessed with fashion and clothes. If you’re like me, then you also love to rock a cute outfit for class, with the exception of those early 8 am-ers when yoga pants are a must.
This fall, don’t be surprised when you see red jeans, leather jackets and lots and lots of studs – my new favorite trend of the season.
Here are five key pieces you can rock this semester:
Off-the-shoulder sweater, American Eagle, $49
This fall, your first campus essential is a simple and comfortable knit top. Sweaters are warm and cozy, not to mention sexy/cute if they fall off the shoulders. This American Eagle sweater comes in oatmeal, light pink and charcoal. You can wear it alone or with a collared shirt underneath. Since the look is so simple feel free to add a few long necklaces.
Studded smoking slippers, Spring, $45
Comfy but stylish shoes for long walks to class are a must. These studded flats come in black and navy, and will go with any outfit, whether you’re rocking jeans or a cute dress. The studded details give the shoes a fun and spunky edge.

If you thought Katy Perry was cute now, wait till you see pics and videos of the “Wide Awake” singer growing up. Her movie Katy Perry: Part of Me comes out on Blu-ray and DVD Sept. 18 (that’s tomorrow!) so we decided to celebrate with a retrospective look at her rise to fame. Get ready to say awww.

When Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson aka Katy Perry was born in 1984, she had those signature, doe-like eyes we’re obsessed with. She grew up in Santa Barbara, California with her parents, big sister Angela and little brother David.
Katy was always into the spotlight and started doing kiddie beauty pageants in grade school. “I still wear those same outfits… and still have my hair and makeup done like that,” she blogged in 2009.

Carly Rae Jepsen
What she’s wearing: The Canadian popstar performed on The Today Show wearing a coral Kelly Wearstler dress paired with printed Alice + Olivia “Juliet” wedges, an ASOS necklace, and a white studded belt.
Why we love it: Coral is on trend as the summer colour for lips, so Jepsen took it a step further by wearing it in a bright summer dress. The watercolour-type pattern creates a cool graphic design and is accented well with her silver accessories.
Takeaway: Monochromatic looks are on trend but make sure to use a different colour for your accessories so things aren’t too matchy matchy.
The Wanted

What they’re wearing: The UK boy band performed at the John F. Kennedy airport in NYC for the JetBlue Live From T5 Concert series, wearing graphic tees, jeans, a sport coat, chambray, and more.
Why we love it: Well it’s more that we like four out of five of the looks and excluding Jay would just seem too cruel. Siva, in the grey sport coat, looks the most put-together with his slightly monochromatic look. His T-shirt has a hint of navy, which gives a subtle pop of colour. Tom and Nathan rock the cool graphic tees, but I give the edge to Nathan since his mustached monocle print is more fun and his khakis set him apart from the rest of the group. Max wears a light blue short-sleeve button-down in chambray (a light woven fabric resembling denim) — a fabric that has made a major comeback. And Jay, well he’s wearing a novelty tee that can be either seen as vulgar or hilarious, nothing fashionable about it. However since Jay is known for his sense of humor he can get away with it, but he does bring down the group’s fashion average. Sorry!
Takeway: When choosing graphic tees try choosing a graphic that suits your personality because they’ll send a message to others about you. Try staying away from novelty tees because they may seem funny at first sight but the joke usually is over by the second glance, then you’ll be the joke instead of your shirt.

Nina Dobrev
What she wore: The Vampire Diaries star celebrated her September Ocean Drive magazine cover in a strapless graphic GUiSHEM by Guillermo Jop dress.
Why we love it: The dress has an awesome geometric pattern that takes your eyes on a journey all over the dress. It’s a sexy cocktail dress but that pattern makes it modern and cool. The solid black insets at the waist, giving her that coveted hourglass shape and an even more stunning silhouette.
Takeaway: The eye-catching graphic pattern might scare off more conservative people, however the striking black, white and grey colour-scheme makes it approachable. Dresses with black insets or black side panelling are great for all shapes and sizes because it creates an hourglass silhouette illusion. Dobrev’s dress sure is hypnotizing!
Shenae Grimes
What she wore: The 90210 actress wore a pink sheer lace LOFT top with a leather skirt and black blazer at LOFT and Giuliana Rancic’s “Live in Pink” event in West Hollywood, California.
Why we love it: If you ever heard the song “Leather and Lace” then you can see what kind of look Grimes’ was channeling, and we love it! The look mixes both sweet and feminine lace with tough and sexy leather, and adds smart and clever with her blazer (the epitome of a modern woman). But all that aside, it’s a cool look that one can rock back to school despite the sheerness of the top (obviously opt for something not as see-through). Plus the statement necklaces adds a nice touch of metallic but also doesn’t distract you form the rest of the outfit.
Takeaway: Try mixing two different styles together to get a more complex and unique look. Mixing sweet bohemian with tough rocker chick can show the world there is more to you than meets the eye.
Josh Hutcherson
What he wore: The Hunger Games star wore a Levi’s Trucker Jacket, a white tee, dark denim, and lace up Vans at CBS’ “Teacher’s Rock Special Live Concert” in Los Angeles, California.
Why we love it: Hutcherson sported the classic All-American look: jeans, a white tee and a denim jacket. I know what you’re thinking and yes the denim jacket-jeans combo is also called the Canadian Tuxedo, but that’s specific to when the wash (colour) of denim is the exact same (or very similar) for both the jacket and the pants. Opting for the darker denim, Hutcherson had more versatility with this clean and casual look, whereas if he went lighter, he wouldn’t look as cool. (If you don’t believe me, click here.)
Takeaway: Having a denim jacket is a solid investment for anyone to have and works year round, except for winter. But make sure that if you’re going to pair it with jeans go for a drastically different wash or even coloured denim. (Try sticking with khakis because it’ll make your life a lot easier.) Kate

One Direction

What they’re wearing: The quintet performed at the London Olympic closing ceremony dressed in very dapper casualwear. What you see is an array of slim-fit chinos, crisp button-ups, converse sneakers, tailored jackets, and of course Zayn’s fedora.
Why we love it: The band coordinated their looks in a cool and neutral colour scheme, which consisted of blues, greys, and whites. This way, they each maintained their own respective styles while looking like a cohesive group. (Hence no real outstanding favourite!) Together, the looks are the perfect balance of dressed-up and relaxed cool, which makes sense for such an important occasion (I’m looking at you hoodie-wearing Ed Sheeren!). While the Olympics are an important international event, the closing ceremony is essentially a big farewell party.
Takeaway You can essentially wear any of these looks for day or night. Well, perhaps not Harry’s suit, but a well-tailored suit is still a must-have regardless! Sidenote: last week I talked about untucked shirts — well untucked shirts become hipper with a buttoned collar button.
Mel C (aka Sporty Spice)

What she’s wearing: Sporty Spice joined the other Spice Girls in a custom JD Sports jumpsuit at the 2012 London Olympic closing ceremony.
Why we love it: While One Direction coordinated their looks, we knew the Spice Girls were gonna give us a major fashion show. How can they not with fashion icon Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) in the mix? I know picking a single Spice Girl as best dressed is controversial because everyone has their favourite Spice Girl. But when it comes down to it, Melanie C. was a total standout amongst the other ladies and yet stayed true to her Sporty Spice style in this white jumpsuit. The outfit has a killer silhouette, is embellished with a sparkly rhinestone belt, has slits in the side to show off some skin, and is accessorized with silver high-heeled sneakers that any serious sneaker-lover would die for.
Takeaway: While the silhouette might be a little much for everyday, try rocking a flare jean and pant to change things up. The skinny leg has become the standard silhouette for pants and jeans but going with a flare or a wide-leg trouser will make you look fashion forward (major upcoming trend!) and will flatter most body types.
Silver goes to: Mel B/Scary Spice gets points for wearing a risqué glittery beaded catsuit by Zuhair Murad. Bronze to Emma/Baby Spice for wearing a modern architectural neon pink Maggie Cook dress. A good job but I expected more from Posh in her black Giles Deacon mullet gown and Geri/Ginger Spice in her strapless red mini and ruffled Union Jack by Suzanne Neville.
Robert Pattinson

What he’s wearing: The English actor wore a steel blue Gucci suit to the premiere of his new movie Cosmopolis in New York City.
Why we love it: Despite all the personal drama going on his life right now, Pattinson had us feeling blue in a good way. The varying shades of blue keeps this look cool and sophisticated. Although it’s a small detail, the textured black tie gives it that something extra. BTW sometimes suits tend to look the same so it’s actually all in the details and cut. The leather lace-ups keep things polished. R-Patz is also giving One Direction’s Zayn a run for his money with that loose and casual bouffant of his.
Takeaway: Monochromatic outfits (those in varying shades of one colour) can be tricky but quite remarkable if pulled off correctly. Try staying within a shade range so that the colour transitions from one shade to the next, without jumping from one extreme to another. Also note that two-button jackets are flattering for most-guys and are on-trend.

It’s pretty safe to say that Rita Ora doesn’t need the most expensive item in the store to complete her look. She insists it doesn’t matter where it’s from, as long as it looks good! Demi Lovato

What she’s wearing: Lovato was photographed wearing a lace white dress and a spike-studded denim jacket on her way to tape an episode of X-Factor US.
Why we love it: If this outfit is any indication of what type of X-Factor judge Lovato will be, expect the former Disney star to be tough but kind. The small lace details makes this LWD (little white dress) a standout as it draws inspiration from the current lace-crochet trend. Lovato counterbalances the soft sweet dress with with a spiked denim jacket, which will surely scare off her fellow judge Simon Cowell. To style the look, Lovato draws inspiration from retro icon Rosie the Riveter, with her red-polka dot headband and updo while modernizing the look with round white sunglasses.
Dianna Agron

What she’s wearing: The Glee star wore a vibrant multi-coloured striped Prada dress, paired with Capri sandals and Miu Miu sunglasses at the 2012 Giffoni Film Festival.
Why we love it: The bright colours and the quirky geometric patterns makes this classic babydoll dress an eye-turner. The thick red sunglasses and chunky red sandals complete this look, perfect for a fun day in beautiful Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy.
Kate Middleton

What she’s wearing: While awaiting the Olympic Torch’s arrival to Buckingham Palace, the Duchess of Cambridge wears an Adidas Official Team GB white polo, cobalt blue jeans from Zara, and navy Corkswoon wedges by Stuart Weitzman.
Why we love it: Usually the words ‘casual’ and ‘royalty’ don’t go together, but Kate proves she can pull off any look with royal ease. Coloured denim has been a trend for a while now, but seeing the future Queen of England rocking a pair of electric blue jeans shows that this trend is here to stay. Perhaps she can convince her husband Prince Will to give coloured denim a try too. The crisp white polo keeps this look simple but most importantly shows her support for Team Great Britain. Navy wedges keep everything in the Team GB colour scheme and also match her sapphire engagement ring. (Don’t pretend you didn’t see it, that thing is massive!).
