Steve Irwin’s Family to Appear in Toronto

Steve Irwin’s wife, Terri Irwin, and their eight-year-old daughter, Bindi Irwin, will visit Toronto in February as part of the “G’Day Toronto: Australia Week.”

An Australian “biosphere” will be built at Yonge and Dundas Square, also the site of the Penfolds Sounds of Silence Gala Dinner, which will be held on Feb. 17.

“We are very excited to announce that Terri and Bindi Irwin will be joining us at the Penfolds Sounds of Silence Gala Dinner and in addition will present two fun and educational Australia Zoo animal shows in the Australian ‘biosphere’ (on Feb. 18),” said Luke Jones, Tourism Australia’s Manager in Canada.

“G’Day Toronto is not just about sitting back and seeing what Australia is all about,” he said. “It’s about experiencing Australia with all of your senses, it’s about meeting Australians and getting a taste of what it would be like to visit Australia.”

The biosphere will also host an Aussie music event, the Canadian premiere of an Australian film and “A Big Gay Night,” featuring Australian DJ Jayson Forbes.

The Irwins will also spend 10 days in the U.S. in January. Bindi is set to appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show and The Late Show with David Letterman and address the National Press Club. Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, died in September after getting pierced in the chest by a stingray.

Deceased croc hunter Steve Irwin will be immortalized as an action figure. Maybe he’ll even score a posthumous date with Barbie.

It’s been revealed the talking doll will be officially unveiled at a toy fair in New York in February 2007. The Irwin family and the Australia Zoo have approved the doll to be made by Wild Republic, reports E Canada Now.

“We all know that Daddy had an important job. He was working to change the world so everyone would love wildlife like he did. Now it’s our turn to help him,” Irwin’s daughter Bindi, a budding star in her own right, said in a statement.

The talking toy will retail for $22 US.

Steve Irwin died this year after being impaled by the barb of a sting ray while filming an underwater special.

Crocodile Hunter’s Daughter Gets Own TV Show

8-year-old Bindi Irwin is set to carry on the animal loving legacy of her late father, “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, now that she’s landed her own TV show.

People magazine reports that “Bindi, The Jungle Girl” is currently filming for the Discovery Kids channel. 26 episodes of the wildlife documentary series are planned.

“I’m trying to get across the message that don’t be afraid of animals, they’re just put on this earth to help the environment and everything like that,” Bindi told ABC’s Australian Story, the first time she’d formally spoken to the media since her father’s sudden death last month.

Her father will also appear in some scenes throughout the series, as select parts were filmed before his death.

“Bindi, The Jungle Girl” is set to debut this January.

Steve Irwin’s Wife Doesn’t Want Tape Aired

Steve Irwin’s widow is pleading that the tape of her husband’s death never be aired.

“No. No. What purpose would that serve? It was an accident so stupid. It was like running with a pencil. It was not risk he was taking. It was just an accident,” Terri Irwin told Barbara Walters in a 20/20 Special, which aired Wednesday night.

Terri said her husband always had a feeling he would not live to be very old.

“He’d talk about it often,” she said. “But it wasn’t because of any danger from wildlife. That was never a consideration. He just felt life could be dangerous.”
Terri also said she is set out to make sure her husband’s zoo continues to run.

“He planned all that masterfully. He planned this wonderful business so that it could continue if anything happened to him.”

Fans Snap Up Tickets for Crocodile Hunter Tribute

All 3,000 tickets for “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s memorial service were snatched by fans in just 15 minutes.

The BBC reports that tickets were being offered at three locations across Irwin’s home state of Queensland in Australia. Hundreds of mourning fans had camped out at the spots to ensure they’d be attending the service.

“It’s indescribable,” said fan Melissa Power after getting her tickets. “I’ve haven’t slept and am so over-emotional. I’m looking so forward to it … to honour such a great Australian.”

The memorial will take place next week at Australia Zoo’s “Crocoseum.” The venue only holds 5,500 people, but will reach many more with large TV screens set up at various locations. It will also be broadcast live across Australia, Asia and the U.S.

Irwin died last week after being stabbed in the chest by a stingray’s barb while he was diving. He was in the process of filming a documentary.

‘Crocodile Hunter’ to be Buried in Family Zoo

Steve Irwin, known to wildlife lovers as The Crocodile Hunter, was given a private funeral service on Saturday.

According to Reuters, Hunter will be laid to rest at his family’s Australia Zoo, located in Queensland.

The Australian government had offered to give Irwin a state funeral, but his father, Bob Irwin, declined.

Later this month, a public memorial service will be held for Irwin. Thousands are expected to attend and pay tribute to his memory.

Irwin died 6 days ago at the age of 44 after being struck in the chest by a stingray barb. He was diving on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef while filming a documentary.

Condolences Pour In For The Crocodile Hunter

Thousands of people dropped by Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s wildlife park today to bring cards, flowers, stuffed toys and animals, proof that the Australian will be terribly missed.

Irwin, famous for wrestling crocodiles and other nasty reptiles on camera, died while filming a scene for his daughter’s new Discovery Channel wildlife show. He was underwater off Australia’s coast when a stingray barb punctured him in the chest

His park decided to open today as usual.

Staff there described Irwin as a “great boss and great friend who treated us like family” and pledged to keep the theme park stores open indefinitely, reports Australia’s Herald Sun.

Park spokeswoman Louise Martin said staff were overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring support from the public.

“It’s so nice to see them showing their support even if they didn’t know Steve,” she said. “It’s good that they feel like they can connect with him. It’s just amazing.”

TV’s Crocodile Hunter Killed By Stingray

Steve Irwin, more popularly known to television and movie audiences as “The Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday morning by a stingray barb that went through his chest. He was 44.

Irwin was filming an underwater documentary at Batt Reef, east of the coastal city of Port Douglas in Australia’s Queensland territory. Irwin had a puncture wound on his left chest, and was pronounced dead at the scene when an emergency services helicopter arrived at 11 a.m. local time, 9 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday night.

His wife, American-born Terri, was filming her own documentary in Tasmania at the time, and was notified, but not until after Australia’s Daily Telegraph reported the news.

In addition to Terri, he leaves behind two children, 8-year-old daughter Bindi, and 3-year-old son Robert.
