Beastie Boys Preview Star Studded Music Video

Posted by @coltondaniel on April 7th, 2011

The legendary Beastie Boys have a new album “Hot Sauce Committee Pt 2″ coming out May 3rd, a new single and now a preview for the short film Fight for Your Right Revisited has hit the interweb.

Don’t like the Beasties? Well, check out the casting call: Elijah Wood, Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, John C. Reilly, Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst, David Cross, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Jason Schwartzman, Adam Scott, Rainn Wilson, Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny, Alicia Silverstone, Martin Starr, Ted Danson, Rashida Jones, R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA.

The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival last month and received a mix of reviews. In the video, we find the Beastie Boys (Elijah Wood, Seth Rogan, Danny McBride)  in 1986 the day after the legendary “Fight for Your Right (To Party)” video took place. It is rumoured to be a long-running Saturday Night Live skit from there on out.

Judging by the preview, it appears to be some battle royale between past and present versions of the Beastie Boys. At the same time, it is between comedy of today versus yesterday. Some fascinating double-entendre, I do say.

Ch-ch-check it out!

Movie Review: Boobs, Glitter, and Christina Aguilera, Burlesque

Posted by Lauren Treihaft on November 26th, 2010

If you are expecting a production akin to Baz Luhurmann’s Moulin Rouge or Bob Fosse’s Cabaret, you should probably just stay home and rewatch one of those films. If you are looking for a holiday “feel good” film, then look no further and go see Burlesque.

We have seen enough pop stars make the jump to Hollywood film  before with films like Crossroads with Britney Spears, to know that often times it doesn’t turn out well. Surprisingly enough, Aguilera isn’t completely terrible in Burlesque. Obviously, her role doesn’t call for much acting talent, but for her film debut I’ll go as far to say that she wasn’t too shabby. The film however is limited by its cliche “country girl goes to Hollywood to make it big” storyline.

Aguilera plays Ali, a lonely gal from Iowa who takes a bus to Hollywood and becomes intrigued by the glitz and glamour of a burlesque club. Ali starts out as a waitress in the club until she finally proves she is worthy of the stage. The rags to riches story is filled with sequins, corsets, and a whole lot of Cher. Cher has proven that she is a talented actress, but this role kind of taints her abilities. Cher is incredibly reminiscent of Dr. Frankenfurter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and not because she is scantily clad and armed with garder belts, but more due to her staunch black hair and caked on makeup that illuminates her artificially enlarged lips and sky-high cheekbones. While it is true that Cher’s physical appearance does not hinder her acting abilities, she just doesn’t really sell it. Cher is also known as a great singer, but her vocal stylings seem out of place next to Aguilera’s gospel-esque style.

The whole film sort of turns into this drawn out Christina Aguilera concert. Remember when Aguilera sang and starred in the music video for “Lady Marmalade”? Well, Burlesque is basically that plus a cliche love story, a little Hollywood temptation, and some rivalry.

Ryan Gosling Jumps

Posted by andPOP Staff on October 23rd, 2007

Ryan Gosling has suddenly dropped out of the highly anticipated film “The Lovely Bones.”

Adapted from the bestselling book and directed by Peter Jackson (“The Lord of the Rings), the film just began shooting on Sunday. “Creative differences” is the official reason being given for Gosling’s swift departure.

Gosling, who had gained weight and grown a full beard for the role, will now be replaced by Mark Wahlberg.

“The Lovely Bones” also stars Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci, and will be released next year.
