It’s a departure from Disney, that’s for sure.
The former High School Musical starlet released the music video Friday for her Spring Breakers track “$$$ex” and I have no words. Let’s just say that if I tried to describe this video, you would think I was recounting a particularly vivid acid trip from a wild rave in the 90s. It’s something you have to see to believe. I understand growing up and wanting to separate yourself from the squeaky clean Disney image, but I think the multiple nude photo scandals and risqué role in the movie were enough for her.

Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby
Summer blockbuster season is almost upon us and you’re probably just as stoked as I am for a whole new crop of movies to devour. But when it comes to movie fashions, summer blockbusters tend to be big on explosions and less on couture. There’s always just a movie or two each year that leaves the audience with a big sartorial impact. Most people are betting on The Great Gatsby to have the biggest style impact, but just because it has the most fashion hype doesn’t mean it will be this year’s most fashionable film.
So here are the movies of 2013 that you need to keep you eyes on for the film’s fashion and sense of style.
The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famed novel is a rite of passage in any high school english classroom. This novel has made its way to the silver screen before but it is Baz Luhrmann’s super stylized adaptation that has us most excited, making it one of the most anticipated films of the year. The Roaring Twenties was a period of high fashion, artistic expression, crazy parties, and excess. No wonder it’s still a popular period for fashion magazines to take editorial inspiration from, and besides everyone loves a good flapper dress. Although this period piece has the most hype (check out Carey Mulligan’s Vogue cover), the ’20s inspiration might have already reached its peak during the Spring/Summer 2012 runways. Perhaps the film will revitalize last year’s trend and keep it alive.

Disclaimer #1: I’m from Ottawa. Born and raised. Disclaimer #2: I love Rihanna. Ever since “Pon de Replay.” Disclaimer #3: This post about Rihanna in an Ottawa Senators jersey is me being selfish so that this moment can live forever on the interwebz. Disclaimer #4: I believe this moment is a sign from the universe that me and Rihanna are meant to be. Disclaimer #5: I will now try to work Rihanna in a Sens jersey into a meaningful and useful andPOP article.
A jersey or any other sports team apparel, whether from your fav team or not, is a classic staple in anyone’s wardrobe. The only trick is making it fashionable and working into everyday outfits—not just for game day. Sports apparel are handy items for any streetwear ensemble. Even if you’re not a sports fan, there are still ways to incorporate the trend into your look.
Now you might be saying that people wear sports jerseys all the time—which is true—and that there is nothing new to this “trend”–which is a little true too. But here’s the catch: rocking sports jerseys and sports apparel was in its heyday in 90′s hip hop and streetwear. With the emerging 90′s fashion revival, you too are seeing the big return of trendy sportswear to the masses. It’s no longer just for the diehard sports fans to rock a jersey or snapback (and don’t let those diehard sports fans discourage you from wearing their team logos). A big sign that this is true is the announcement that the iconic 90s Starter jackets are set to make their return this fall, first with the NFL line followed by the NBA collection.
The Good Old Hockey Game: Rihanna

Here is Rihanna in West Hollywood using a heritage Ottawa Sens jersey as a dress. Now I don’t recommend using a sports jersey as a dress because not everyone can pull it off, but clearly Rihanna can and beside she probably doesn’t give a fuq. Anyways, she glams up her look with nice gold accessories and and golden Tom Ford ankle cuff shoes. I like this look because it makes me want to believe that the people of Barbados are all diehard hockey fans.
Nicola Roberts

Now this isn’t a slight to Montreal Canadiens fans (however, you will notice that there will be no Toronto Maple Leafs pics on this post) but this is an example of how not to wear a jersey as a dress. Nicola Roberts (one fifth of U.K. girl group Girls Aloud) actually wore this to a ‘red carpet’ event for the premiere of her reality show. This look is strictly streetwear! It’s all about context, so the posh surrounding just makes her cheap in comparison. Plus, she could have done a lot better accessorizing her outfit! Obviously this wasn’t well received in the U.K., where someone mistook this outfit to be from an American football team.

First former Disney stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, now the Disney princesses, it looks like everyone is getting wild during spring break.
College Humor took the liberty of spoofing the much talked about Spring Breakers movie with all our favourite Disney princesses. Not everything is all “Happy Ever After” for Jasmine, Ariel, Cinderella and Snow White as they rob stepmothers, get crunk with a cornrowed Genie and shoot some magical wands off into the air. The girls get so wild that Mickey Mouse would probably chose to shoot himself rather than watch.
“It means no worries for the rest of your days, y’all,” the Genie says.

James Franco brings back his Spring Breakers’ character, Alien, back for this “no talking” commercial.
Filmed at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin during his visit to SXSW, Franco wants you to turn off your screens and not to ruin it because, “look at this shit!” Also making a brief appearance is Harry Osbourne, Franco’s character in Sam Raimi’s Spiderman trilogy.
Selena Gomez is all kinds of adorable, even if her Spring Breakers‘ character hopes to break her out of that mold.
It’s hard to think of her as anything but sweet especially when she’s singing the “Mario Kart Love Song” with Jimmy Fallon on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Will they start selling their duet on iTunes? I want. Now.
Spring Breakers stars Selena Gomez, Rachel Korine and Ashley Benson broke out into song and sang Britney Spears’ ubiquitous hit “Hit Me Baby One More Time” during their SXSW film panel.
The trio (who was missing Vanessa Hudgens) wanted to prove that they weren’t lip syncing in the movie. Funny because they sound just fine to me live.
Among his zillion projects, James Franco had time to cover Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” with Spring Breakers co-star Ashley Benson. The over-sexualized, poorly filmed music video would probably be considered conceptual art by Franco’s entourage, but let’s not over-think it. It’s just pure hilarity and they’re having fun with it. Franco has since taken it down from his WhoSay account but DUH this is the Internet so someone immediately copied it for the personal collection then SHARED IT WITH THE WORLD. Thanks anonymous person.
And if you’re saying “OMG it’s soo raunchy” then please just go watch Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers and then come talk to me.

If you’re the major fashion fanatic we think you are, then you know this past week has been INSANE, what with New York Fashion Week, Fashion’s Night Out, the MTV Video Music Awards, the Toronto Film Festival and more. It’s fashion overload and we love it! If you want to check out some of the best looks from the MTV VMAs, take a look here. As for the rest, here we go!
Emma Watson
What she wore: The British actress showed up in this sleeveless black and blue-embroidered floral peplum Erdem dress at the TIFF premiere of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Why we love it: This look proves florals aren’t just for spring and summer and can work into the fall season as well. The embroidered floral detail pop off this white mini is on trend with its hints of cobalt — a major colour for the fall season. The lace yoke (the part of the dress at the collarbone and shoulders) is also on trend for the fall, so expect to see lace yokes in a lot of upcoming looks.
Takeaway: Invest in cobalt pieces for your wardrobe. This hue has been popular for a while now but is making a huge splash in the fall runway season. If you’re not a fan of showing cleavage, then lace or sheer yokes are a good fashion technique to keep covered while not looking too demure.
Nina Dobrev
What she wore: The Canadian actress wore a stunning red Reem Acra cocktail dress to the LA premiere of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Why we love it: The vibrant red-orange colour is a surefire way to stand out. Unlike her co-star Emma Watson’s dress at the TIFF premiere, this dress shows off Dobrev’s cleavage while still working in the embroidered lace detail in the sleeves. This dress manages to mix two trends, lace and cutouts, in a fun and stylish way.
Takeaway: If you’re not a fan of long-sleeve dresses (because let’s be honest sometimes long-sleeve dresses look older) using cutouts, lace, or other sheer fabrics keeps things youthful while getting to show some skin in a fun and strategic way.

Selena Gomez provided my favourite insight during the Q&A portion of TIFF’s Spring Breakers premiere. She said: “It’s really hard to find a teen movie that tells the truth and shows what’s raw and real.”
I can’t say I personally know anyone my age that funds their hedonist exploits by robbing and threatening to blow the f*cking heads off customers at fast food joints with booze-filled water guns. But director Harmony Korine is painting a broader portrait of a selfish, Jersey Shore-loving generation that becomes young, wild and free completely disillusioned during their “break from reality.” And we sure as hell all know college kids like that.
Plot
Faith (Selena Gomez) is a Jesus-thumping undergrad who is disillusioned by the banality of her life. She eagerly follows her childhood friends, played by Hudgens, Pretty Little Liars’ Ashley Benson and Korines’ wife Rachel, on their illegally funded spring break vacation to Florida.
While Faith is encouraged by her “spiritual retreat” — even wishing to make her pause from reality infinite — her fun is over when the ladies land in jail and meet a cornrowed hustler named Alien (James Franco). Just as Faith’s spring break vacation ends, it just gets started for her thrill-seeking friends.
Three things I loved
The cast
The film isn’t for the faint of heart, nor is it necessarily for Gomez and Hudgens’ fans. The Disney stars smoke bongs and dance alongside breast-baring partiers during their violent and sexual retreat. Teen idol haters might be pleasantly surprised by all the actresses’ adaptability, particularly during some raunchy scenes with Benson, Hudgens and Franco, that couldn’t have been comfortable to shoot… for the girls anyway.
Direction (and see photos from the premiere below)
The Spring Breakers
Ashley Benson donned a beautiful couture dresses and hung out with BFFs and co-stars Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez at the Venice premiere of Spring Breakers. Her job is very difficult. It requires her to submit to the idea of fun, wave to adoring fans and wear a stunning designer outfit.
One Direction
Officials were wondering why so many teen girls fainted precisely six minutes ago until they realized One Direction tweeted a photo of Harry Styles and Zayn Malik looking devilishly handsome rehearsing for tomorrow night’s VMAs. The county sheriff’s department is investigating.

In the past few months, there’s been countless candids floating around from the set of Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers. You can’t help but realize that this movie isn’t going to be anything but a racier image to what some of these co-star’s have done in the past. Ashley Benson told JustJared: “It’s more edgy and it’s a little bit darker and I just play an insane character, but it was fun.” The movie won’t be released until early next year, but will be making a couple debuts at film festivals around the world.
The film follows four friends (Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens, Rachel Korine) as they head to Florida for spring break, but end up behind bars after robbing a restaurant. A couple drug dealers bail them out (why aren’t they in jail..) but the price the girls have to pay is doing some dirty work.
In the clip, Selena Gomez who seems to be in a jail cell says: “I’m so tired of seeing the same thing every single day. Everybody’s miserable here because everybody sees the same things. They wake up in the same bed, the same houses… same depressing streetlights. One gas station. The grass, it’s not even green it’s brown. Everything is the same and everyone’s just sad.”

Well that’s fun. In a new film directed by Harmony Korine, The Black Keys are dressed like giant babies in pastel onesies, holding bottles and giving the camera their trademark deadpan expressions. It’s all to the tune of their song “Gold On The Ceiling,” which already has a music video, but hey, who cares?
What else would we expect from Harmony Korine after all? The guy is directing the controversial new film Spring Breakers starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson.
The video is so bizarre it makes me like The Black Keys more than I already do, which trust me, is a lot. The track is from El Camino, which is out now.

We’ve been getting glimpses of the upcoming movie Spring Breakers for months courtesy of Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson’s Twitter feed — even though it doesn’t come out until 2013. As if those shots didn’t get us excited enough they were photographed for Interview Magazine, doing all kinds of bad, like getting arrested and looking indifferent to James Franco pointing a gun at their heads.
Spring Breakers stars Gomez, Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine as four college girls who land in jail after robbing a restaurant to pay for their spring break vacation. And don’t go thinking it’s going to be one of those cheesy teen flicks either. The film is directed by Harmony Korine, who wrote the script for your parent’s worst nightmare Kids.
Are you excited to see the film?
James Franco, you never cease to confuse me.
With his hair in cornrows for his role in the upcoming film “Spring Breakers”, Franco can be seen in this video singing along to Selena Gomez’s single “Love You Like a Love Song” very expressively.
Posted on his WhoSay account, I can conclude that Franco should probably stick to his day job of being an actor/professor/superhero than to make a name for himself in the music industry.
After all, he can’t have it all.
And while I still love James Franco, the cornrows make him look like K-Fed and it’s really giving me the creeps.

No! My eyes! Take it away please.
James Franco looks like Britney Spears’ reject Kevin Federline for his role in the upcoming movie Spring Breakers. He channeled sleaze and scum all at once while filming in St. Petersburg Florida, yesterday. The gold teeth, cheesy Hawaiian shirt and unnecessary bling inspired universal gagging.
Selena Gomez, who also stars in the movie with Vanessa Hudgens and Federline Franco, tweeted the photo above with the caption: “This is where the trouble begins…
ps Rachel is sexy” Franco on the other hand…
Today we talk about our favourite house party movies for you to indulge in this March Break! Superbad is undoubtably our fave. Then we move on to a new ad with a slew of Internet memes and a Hunger Games parody appropriately called Hunger Pains!

It’s March Break!! And suitably, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens just happen to be filming their upcoming movie Spring Breakers.
The movie follows four college girls who land in jail after robbing a fast food restaurant to fund their spring break vacation. They’re bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who naturally wants them to do some dirty work in exchange.
The ladies were seen in Florida today in their teeny bikinis riding around on Buddy scooters. What’s work for them is a dream day for me everyone. The movie doesn’t have a release date yet but filming wraps up this month.
How are you spending March Break?
