Glee Spin-off Singing Competition Bombs In Ratings

The ‘Glee’ spin-off singing competition, ‘The Glee Project,’ has bombed in the ratings, reports Canoe Jam.

The premiere of the Oxygen talent competition reportedly only received 455,000 viewers Sunday. Ouch.

To give the show some slack, it was up against the final NBA championship game as well as the Tony Awards, so no wonder it didn’t do fantastic.

Still, executives are disappointed. Considering the success of ‘Glee,’ they were anticipating the show to open big. I mean, since there’s ‘Glee’ pencils, backpacks, candy, concerts – everything – you’d think the show would be semi-successful.

Jason Klarman, president of Oxygen Media, still believes in the show’s future though.

“We couldn’t be more proud of this critically acclaimed, first of its kind series that I — and this company — believe in 200 percent,” said Klarman in a statement.

I think one ‘Glee’ related show is enough for me, and I think the rest of the world agrees. I see why the network thought it was a good idea, though, but apparently it wasn’t so.

DJ Pauly D Getting a Spin-off

It’s official - Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio is the first ‘Jersey Shore’ star to land a spin-off series on MTV!

RadarOnline broke the story, saying the show will be called “Pauly’s World.” “The boys that Pauly hangs with are his road manager “Big Mike,” his bodyguard Jerry and Ryan, a buddy he grew up with who “has a really good business sense,” a source tells Radar.

“At the heart of ‘Jersey Shore’ is the unique and genuine cast and Pauly D truly embodies both qualities,” MTV executive vice president of programming and head of productions Chris Linn said in a release. “He’s distinguished himself onscreen as the fun-loving, well-coiffed and dependable guy you can’t help but want to hang out with. We know viewers are curious about his life away from the shore and we look forward to exploring new possibilities around that.”

Family Guy Spin-Off Picked Up For Second Season

“Family Guy” spin-off “The Cleveland Show” hasn’t premiered yet, but it’s already been given the green light for a second season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox’s new 13-episode pickup means the show is on tap for a total of 35 episodes so far.

Due to debut in fall 2009, the animated comedy will revolve around the “Family Guy” character Cleveland Brown, voiced by Mike Henry (also an executive producer on the show).

Other voice talent will include show creator/executive producer Seth MacFarlane, Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long. Arianna Huffington is also slated have a recurring role.

Fox was originally eyeing a spring debut for “Cleveland,” but in November the network decided to premiere the show in the fall so that the creative team would have more time for development and production, THR reports.

The recent 13-episode pickup will help ensure the creative team stays intact and, given the long lead time in animation, means there will be new episodes ready for the 2010-11 season.
