In the world of celebrity news, there’s no shortage of hits and misses. This week, The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence makes our “hit list” for a cute photo of her with her beau. Lindsay Lohan sadly fell short, as her alleged hit and run is anything but a hit.
HITS
Sofia Vergara lands SNL hosting gig
Modern Family‘s male fans are probably too distracted by her hot bod to try to decipher her accent (“chesh?!”). I, on the other hand, love her for her comedic chops as the naggy, but strong, Gloria. Expect skits that lovingly poke fun at her accent and breasts.
The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult caught kissing

In my head, I saw Skins star Kaya Scodelario as the perfect Katniss. Eventually though, Jennifer Lawrence’s charm won my heart, not to mention the heart of Scodelario’s former co-star, Nicholas Hoult. While they’ve kept their relationship under wraps, I wouldn’t mind seeing Hoult escort Lawrence down the Hunger Games red carpet. She looks hot in gold, TAKE SOME PRIDE IN THAT.
One Direction will get their own show on Nickelodeon
To my sister and every One Directioner’s delight, Nickelodeon confirmed via Twitter that the members of this boy band are getting their own show. They may be cute and British, but their pop tunes make me want to punch something cute. I’m sure they’ll be great for some wholesome family entertainment but just remember ladies, keep your stalking friendly.
MISSES
Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover postpones rap tour

Glover fractured his foot while performing in Florida and moved his Camp tour back. If anyone can’t make the Toronto show, please forward your tickets to me. I’d be happy to take them off your hands.
The younger Franco did a strange photoshoot for Complex Magazine

Dave Franco, aka younger brother of James, thought an 80s-themed photoshoot for the hip hop magazine was a good idea. I can’t decide what’s stranger: this or the Funny or Die video where he has sex with himself. I think you should fire your agent because the Internet never forgets.
Lindsay Lohan accused of hit and run
While on LiLo patrol, TMZ reports the star hit a hookah lounge manager with her Porsche early Wednesday morning in L.A. While the manager wasn’t hurt, he apparently plans to press charges. At least give her a chance at a comeback! She didn’t go back to red hair for nothing!

In andPOP’s new Monday column, Azra Kassam will compile a weekly dose of pop culture to help get you through a rough week. It’s your weekly prescription.
Gotye’s new video for “Easy Way Out”
Director Darcy Prendergast said his goal with Gotye’s music video for his second single was to have the “viewer’s cerebral cortex sliding down the computer screen.” His combination of real-life and stop-motion animation definitely achieves this.
The Shins perform “Simple Song” on Saturday Night Live
Last Saturday, The Shins performed their new single “Simple Song” on SNL. During the past five years the band completely reshuffled, with James Mercer as the only original returning band member. Still, the group performed tightly with a fresh, euphoric sound. Their new album Port of Morrow will be released Mar. 20 and if the rest of the album is anything like “Simple Song,” it’s sure to be a good one.
Beach House drops “Myth”
If the previous songs are too upbeat for you, try Beach House’s “Myth” on for size. Their sophomore album Bloom will be released May 15 and judging from the first single “Myth,” the band stays true to their wistful sound. With soft drums, an acoustic guitar and a rolling piano line, “Myth” will take you on a swirling adventure.
Beach Fossils release video for Shallow
Boys will be boys…while making sweet music and showing off their fun lives as musicians. Brooklyn band Beach Fossils’ homemade music video for “Shallow” will make you want to attempt parkour with them, write obscenities on mirrors, and indulge in their foolish antics on tour. Oh, and the song rocks too. [ChartAttack]
The Walkmen cover U2
Remember U2? Indie rockers The Walkmen certainly do, and they created a charming medley of U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love),” “With or Without You,” and “Sunday Bloody Sunday.” Apparently, the band was fooling around after a long day, and they spontaneously came up with this medley as their producer secretly recorded it. The result is an obviously rough track, but shows off their creativity and inadvertently makes U2 relevant again. Listen to it at their website. [ChartAttack]

The biggest boy band in the world, One Direction, might team up with the biggest male pop singer, Justin Bieber.
The boys are already touring with Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush. Now Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber’s manager confirmed that a collaboration between Bieber and One Direction is a possibility after a fan asked the question on Twitter:
One Direction is continuing to sweep the world and their next stop is Saturday Night Live. They’ll perform on April 7, the same day that Sofia Vergara will host. They also recently stopped by 1075 “The River” to perform an acoustic version of “What Makes You Beautiful.” What do you think of it?
Listen to it here:

I think the Debbie Harry comparisons have been nabbing at Lindsay Lohan lately because she returned to her red hair colour. While I don’t have a strong leaning toward either camp, her new colour has been trending for some reason this morning, right there next to news of the U.S. Republican race. No, really.
During her recent SNL hosting gig she wore a red wig for one of the sketches, prompting many people to tweet their preference for the hair colour. I can’t imagine visiting the hair salon for a quick trim or highlights and then having it all over the media the next day.
But it leads us to the important question, which colour do you prefer?

Saturday Night Live released the promo video for this week’s host Jonah Hill. The clip resembles a behind the scenes outtake reel with Bill Hader and Jonah sitting behind a control board.
The highlight of the video is the two actors wearing their sunglasses indoors for a ‘silky smooth’ take. What’s most promising, however, is there’s no sign of Lindsay Lohan. After watching her run last week’s episode into the ground, Jonah Hill should redeem SNL for what has been a near flawless season.
Maybe NBC will use Lindsay’s episode as a cautionary example of why it’s a bad idea to let people just walk on and host.

The best sketch of Saturday Night Live last night was by far The Real Housewives of Disney. Although it was supposed to be Lindsay Lohan’s shining moment, Kristen Wiig stole the show as the alcohol-soaked Cinderella married to an uninterested Prince. The sketch included a broke Jasmine, snide Snow White and fame hungry Belle. If only it were real!
Still, Lohan didn’t bomb as some people suspected, though there was a sketch or two where she diligently glued her eyes to the cue cards. She also acknowledged her rowdy behaviour with more than one crack at being a jailbird. Watch the clip for your region below, two are provided:

Lindsay Lohan will be hosting SNL this weekend. Oh wait, EVERYONE already knows this. Well, they finally released the promo for Saturday night’s show, featuring the “Three Musketeers,” aka Lilo, Andy Samberg and musical guest Jack White.
Jack White gets in on some of the jokes but looks totally out of place in the promo. Watch him slowly shift side to side and then walk out of the room when he watches Lindsay and Andy’s lame high five handshake.
Watch it here:
This weekend Lindsay’s expected to play Callista Gingrich, a Republican presidential candidate, prompting some to speculate she’ll be the new Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. Lindsay was involved in some of the most popular SNL sketches, including Debbie Downer. Watch some of her best moments below.

Lindsay Lohan visited Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night and displayed her poor Pictionary skills. The comeback queen randomly selected pole vaulting but didn’t know exactly what that sport is. Then she went into full panic mode when her partner failed to guess her doodle, which consisted of a long pole and box.
Lohan also reminisced with Fallon about her appearance in the very first Debbie Downer sketch. Fallon has a reputation for laughing during sketches, which often rubs off on his cast mates. Apparently the SNL team could stop laughing at Debbie, especially during her last line “It’s official, I can’t have children,” so they started stuffing waffles in their mouth to prevent outright giggles.

Last night’s episode of SNL was hosted by Maya Rudolph with performances by Sleigh Bells. The best act of the night was a Beyonce/Jay-Z sketch in which celebrities paid their respects to baby Blue Ivy Carter. Angelina tried to kidnap the Blue Ivy to add to her baby collection and an overly-excited Taylor Swift came through saying nothing at all. My fave visitors were Fred Armisen from Portlandia creeping over Ivy’s crib and giving her a creepy one-sided grin and Justin Timberlake putting himself to sleep strumming his canoe-guitar as Bon Iver.
Another great part of the night was a performance by musical duo Sleigh Bells. They also revealed that Jack White will be a musical guest on March 3 with Lindsay Lohan as host. It’ll be an interesting dynamic and I wonder if Lohan will poke fun at her longtime tabloid headlines.
“Comeback Kid”

Lana Del Rey has only been famous for six months and she already landed a prestigious gig on SNL. The New York singer is the only artist to perform on “Saturday Night Live” without releasing a single studio album since Natalie Imbruglia in 1998.
Because Lana’s a pretty hyped up musical darling on the internet, the whole world was watching, waiting to criticize the retro-glam singer.
She performed her two online hits “Blue Jeans” and “Video Games” but unfortunately, not to the best of her abilities. Many people blasted her on Twitter while some shrugged it off, blaming it on her nerves.
When Lana performed on the Johnathan Ross show in the UK, she sounded beautiful. When she played a show at Toronto’s Mod Club last year, she was gorgeous and fun to watch on stage. On SNL she was nothing but awkward and stiff. When she opened her mouth she sounded like a drunk Shakira crashing somebody’s wedding.
Watch her two performances below.
Last night’s Saturday Night Live was brilliantly hosted by alumni Jimmy Fallon and the musical guest was Michael Buble. There was a handful of holiday skits, but one of the standouts was definitely a hit.
In this hilarious promotional skit for ‘Michael Buble’s Christmas Duets’, the Canadian boy festives up with a pop-locking Justin Bieber, an overly humbled Taylor Swift, an auto-tuned Kanye West. Other spoofs by Jimmy Fallon and the SNL cast included Sting, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Russell Brand, American Idol’s Scotty McCreery and a barely recognizable Lady GaGa.
Buble is currently sitting comfortably on top of the American and Canadian Billboard charts and is reportedly on its way to being the second-highest selling album of this year. With 1.52 million copies sold in the States (after seven weeks) it is already the fourth biggest selling album of the year, according to Nielson SoundScan. It is expected to face some competition when it nears Adele’s “21″ that hit 5 million copies.

Fresh from her pepto-bismal inspired performance at the American Music Awards last night, Katy Perry has been confirmed as the host of the December 10th episode of Saturday Night Live.
Perry has spent the past year racking up hit singles from her album “Teenage Dream” and touring the world with her California Dreams tour. Swedish pop star Robyn, who opened up for many of California Dreams’ gigs, will be the episode’s musical guest.
Perry has dabled in comedy already, as she guest starred on on How I Met Your Mother and provided the voice for the Smurfs animated movie. Katy’s husband, British funnyman Russell Brand, hosted an episode of SNL back in February and is very likely to turn up in this episode.
It seems to be a recent trend, showing up to your best friend or significant other’s SNL show. From Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield to Jason Segel and Paul Rudd this past weekend, lots of hosts are getting a cameo for their close loved ones.

Following the utterly hysterical and dead-on imitations of Kardashian family, the three sisters have voiced their reactions on their twitter accounts. But their opinions are not the ones you might expect.
“Ha! I just saw the SNL skit they did and I could not stop laughing…. LOL,” Khloe tweeted on Monday.
When fans responded with comments like, ”I’m glad you’re smart enough to laugh at it. Love you Khloe,” and, “You’re not offended? I thought the skit was pretty harsh,” sister Khloe Kardashian said, “u have 2learn2 laugh at urself life is 2short…Its SNL… They r supposed 2make fun Its not who we are&I know that.” Pretty respectable responses, Khloe!
Kourtney responded to her sister’s tweet, saying, “I peed! The @KrisJenner was classic.”
Even the girls’ mom Kris Jenner found it in her heart to laugh at herself. While making an appearance in the Access Hollywood studios on Monday, Jenner deemed it “one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in my life,” saying, “I tell my kids don’t take yourself too seriously and always have a good sense of humor. We’re laughing right along with them.”
I guess we can see where the girls get their maturity from! I am thoroughly impressed with their responses, and will continue to watch the video on repeat, laughing along with them.
Just when we thought we can’t take anymore of the Kardashians, SNL brilliantly spoofs the holier-than-thou Hollywood family.
SNL’s been on air since 1975 and certainly back then, they didn’t have reality shows to mock. One of the program’s stand-out actors, Kristin Wiig, does an incredible Kris Jenner impression. Relative new-comer Nasim Pedrad plays the role of a dumb, ditzy Kim , who turns his divorce signing with Kris Humphries into a televised spectacle dubbed Kim’s Fairytale Divorce.
“It’s been really hard. All week we’ve just been crying and crying and posing and crying and getting our anuses bleached,” Kim says to the camera.
The entire skit is hilarious, a real knock-out compared to other scenes from last week’s show hosted by Charlie Day that fell a little flat. Watch the clip Perez Hilton posted below.
Drake is performing on SNL tonight and is promising an awesome performance and will be rapping tracks from his new album, “Take Care.”
“It’s crazy places that rap music can take you and doors that can open up off of the things that we’ve worked on all these years,” Drake told MTV News after “SNL” show rehearsals on Thursday in New York. “It’s so crazy being here today with the same band that I’ve been rolling with — all guys from Toronto. This is crazy, man, this is crazy. It’s an honor for sure.”
Drake is also promising a larger than life performance.
“One thing that I do notice is not too many people bring atmosphere change [as 'SNL' musical guests], so I really pushed to change the station into something different and I think I did a great job of that,” he said. “I just hope that visually and sonically, it’s a superior performance.”
We will wait and see.
A very pregnant Tina Fey hosted a special Mother’s Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” last night.
To celebrate the event, Fey brought out fellow expectant mom Maya Rudolph for a belly-bump greeting, and a song devoted to their soon-to-be-born children.
The lullaby had lyrics such as “I cannot wait to know you,” then quickly segued into a raunchy ode to procreation: “You are the proof that we’ve been doin’ it….makin’ super sexy heat…your mom and daddy been doin’ it!” Mid-duet, the two even had a faux sonogram while each fetus, played by Keenan Thompson and Kristen Wiig, sang along in utero.
After announcing last week that she was pregnant, January Jones’ ex Jason Sudeikis is left speechless about the news.
Even though the Saturday Night Live star can flawlessly recite a whole new set of dialogue each week, he was tongue tied when asked about his ex’s pregnancy and declined to say much at all when it came to talking about Jones, whom he broke up with in January.
“I’d rather — yes but no,” he said to the Washington Post when their interview shifted from his career to Jones’ unborn baby.
And when the actor was asked if he was surprised to hear about the pregnancy, his response was even more non-responsive.
“No, I–…No, I didn’t have anything [else to say].”
Awkward…..
But it seems like he knows just as much as we do.
Jones, who stars as Betty Draper on AMC’s Mad Men, has said that she will be a single mother and has not announced the identity of the father of the child.
Well, in that case, Sudeikis can breathe a sigh of relief…for now at least?
This weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live had the second highest rating of the season thanks to host Miley Cyrus and musical guest The Strokes.
Miley’s episode was packed with memorable moments and excellent writing. She impersonated Justin Bieber, poked fun at Lindsay Lohan, and came head-to-head with Vanessa Bayer’s dead-on impression of her.
SNL totally dominated the crucial 18-49 demographic, topping everything in prime time even without an NFL playoff game to lead into the episode.
Say what you want about Miley, but after so many seasons on kiddie sitcom Hannah Montana, the girl’s got some pretty strong comedy chops.
What did you think of the show? Was it “pretty cool!?”
Set your PVR for March 5 because that’s when Miley Cyrus is hosting SNL, reports PEOPLE.
This is somewhat ironic considering SNL regularly parodies the young actress. However, don’t expect Miley to show off her musical talents as she will not be the musical guest.
And the big question remains: Will Cyrus appear on The Miley Cyrus Show, a sketch where SNL castmate Vanessa Bayer parodies the young star? We will wait and see.
In case you haven’t seen this sketch before, see below (sorry for the poor video quality):
Although nobody is confirming it, rumours are circulating that Justin Bieber will appear on SNL tonight. Its a fairly reasonable theory considering the Statford, Ontario native is in New York City promoting his biopic.
Although most of his fans should be in bed by the time SNL airs, perhaps Moms and Dads will let them stay up late. There is still no word if Bieber will be singing or will he just be appearing in a segment. We will wait and see.
