Thom Yorke’s New Crew

The Radiohead frontman has put together a band to tour for his 2006 solo project “The Eraser” and his newer solo tracks, Muchmusic.com reports.
Yorke’s band will include Red Hot Chilli Peppers bass guitarist Flea, former Smashing Pumpkins and Beck drummer Joey Waronker, Forro in the Dark musican Mauro Refosco, and Beck, Travis and Radiohead producer Nigel Godbrich.

On Radiohead’s website, Thom Yorke said the nameless super group will play two shows on October 4th and 5th at the Orpheum theatre in Los Angeles. “the set will not be very long cuz ..well …we haven’t got that much material yet!”, said Yorke in his post on the site. Radiohead announced in August that they will no longer making albums as a group, but they may continue to make individual songs and he will continue to pursue his solo projects. His latest solo track, “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses”, has all the rhythm and temp that Radiohead songs usually pack, along with the distinctly soft yet strong vocals of Thom Yorke. The song was even placed on Kanye West’s blog and Facebook page, even after the Radiohead frontman reportedly snuffed West at the Grammys when the rapper – an admirer of Yorke – requested to meet him.

A TMZ employee yesterday labelled Yorke the biggest rock star in the world and received little criticism to the claim. The artist was spotted coming out of an LA restaurant paying no attention to reporters and photographers. Whether or not Yorke will decide to pursue an enduring solo career remains to be seen, but what is always certain with this innovative artist is that he has, and will continue to remain, all about the music.

Smashing Pumpkins Loses Founding Member

Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left Smashing Pumpkins, making Billy Corgan the only original Pumpkin left in the lineup.

“The SMASHING PUMPKINS’ guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group,” read a statement on the band’s website Friday. “Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998).”

The statement added that Corgan will continue to write and record as Smashing Pumpkins and plans to head into the studio later this spring.

Following the band’s breakup in 2000, Corgan and Chamberlain played together in the short-lived Zwan before regrouping as Smashing Pumpkins in 2006, albeit without original members James Iha and D’arcy Wretzky.

The group released the album “Zeitgeist” in 2007 and recently went on a 20th anniversary reunion tour.

The Smashing Pumpkins are coming to a venue near you.

In celebration of the bands 20th anniversary, the group has announced on their website that they’ll be touring over the next six months.

According to eonline.com, the tour will kick off in Hammond, Indiana at smaller venues and then move into major cities including New York and LA.

The Pumpkins were founded in 1988 and although two of the original members are no longer with the band, front man, Billy Corgan, says that the group is working on a lot of surprises and that the “The 20th anniversary shows will be magical”.

Tickets for the tour go on sale July 11th.

Smashing Pumpkins Hit the Studio…Again

Fresh from their Zeitgeist tour, The Smashing Pumpkins are heading back to the studio to record yet another album.

In a posting to their blog, drummer Jimmy Chamberlain announced the good news about the unexpected album. He also took the opportunity to thank his loyal fans for all of their support and warm wishes as his partially blocked artery caused the band to postpone some of their Zeitgeist tour shows.

“The tour was a rock rampage and now we are back in the studio recording some songs for a possible release worldwide,” he wrote. “Look for these around the first of the year. Busy bees!”

The Zeitgeist tour has been getting great feedback from fans and music critics alike, even despite the small delay earlier in the year due to Chamberlain’s health scare.

The band are committed to a European arena tour, set to kick off in January in Serbia, then Australia.

Corgan Confirms the Return of the Smashing Pumpkins

Billy Corgan gave Smashing Pumpkins fans the news they wanted. Using his MySpace blog, the Smashing Pumpkins singer confirmed that new material is on the way.

“This year for us will see a new album of songs and a world tour of tears, and we truly look forward to playing again for fans young, old, and missed,” he said. “So yes, tunes are being dusted off, while others are being asked to kindly submit to an upstart millennia and all it’s asking.”

He then continued with a bit of poetry, not really more news: “In our daily prayers, we send out the signal that all who should hear us come forward and be seen, and by extension, heard…when we opened the lid on this music box, we were pleasantly surprised (sic) at the music that played: familiar yet unknown, welcoming but not sentimental…and that is all we can ask.”

And it continues like that for a few more lines.

The band hasn’t released an album in seven years.

Pumpkins Record Sure to be a Smash

Notorious rocker Billy Corgan’s newly resurrected prog-rock group the Smashing Pumpkins will come out with a new album in the next year, and it promises to be good.

Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has posted updates regarding the album’s status on his MySpace page, reports MTV.

Chamberlin – apparently the only original member besides Corgan on board for the reunion – has posted enthusiastic reports that “things are on track for the future.”

“As some of you know, we are indeed creating music again — music that comes from a place so pure it will burn the lies off the very souls of those who try to discount it. We have arrived at a place in our lives where truth and honesty prevail and we are creating from that place. Things are sounding fantastic.”

In June 2005, Corgan placed an as in his hometown newspaper, the “Chicago Tribune,” asking for his former band mates to return to the group. It’s still unclear whether guitarist James Uha and bassist D’Arcy Wretzky are involved with the project as their relationship with Corgan is reportedly strained.

Smashing Pumpkins’ Drummer Talks New Music

Jimmy Chamberlain, the long-time drummer for recently reformed rock band Smashing Pumpkins, has spoken out about the band’s latest efforts in the studio.

Billboard reports that producers Roy Thomas Baker (best known for his work with Queen) and Terry Date (Deftones, Soundgarden) have both been behind the boards thus far. However, Chamberlain didn’t talk about the band’s current line-up, which officially includes only himself and front-man Billy Corgan at the moment.

“I’m here to tell you that great things are on track for the future,” read a message from Chamberlin on the band’s MySpace page. “As some of you know we are indeed creating music again — music that comes from a place so pure it will burn the lies off the very souls of those who try to discount it. We have arrived at a place in our lives where truth and honesty prevail and we are creating from that place.” Getting away from the flowery description, Chamberlain added that the new tunes are “sounding fantastic.”

Although no release dates or labels have been announced so far, many are expecting the band to tour in support of a new album sometime next year.
