Roger Ebert Releases Sex Pistols Screenplay

Famous film critic Roger Ebert has released his screenplay about the punk rock band Sex Pistols entitled, “Who Killed Bambi?”

Written in 1977, the screenplay never saw production and has now been fully reprinted in the Chicago Sun-Times.

“This, for the benefit of future rock historians, is the transcript of a screenplay I wrote in the summer of 1977,” Ebert wrote in the Sun-Times on April 25. ”It was tailored for the historic punk rock band the Sex Pistols, and was to be directed by Russ Meyer and produced by the impresario Malcolm McLaren. It still carried its original title, ‘Anarchy in the U.K.,’ although shortly after I phoned up with a suggested title change, which was accepted: ‘Who Killed Bambi?’ I wrote about this adventure in my blog entry McLaren & Meyer & Rotten & Vicious & me. Discussions with Meyer, McLaren and Rene Daalder led to this draft. All I intend to do here is reprint it. Comments are open, but I can’t discuss what I wrote, why I wrote it, or what I should or shouldn’t have written. Frankly, I have no idea.”

Sex Pistols Go After Ice Cream

The Sex Pistols have declared war on an unlikely opponent – the ice cream man.

The lawyers of the band the Sex Pistols have threatened an ice cream company with legal action, according to CHARTattack. The dispute is over similarities between the ice cream company’s advertising campaign and the band’s famous artwork and lyrics.

The London-based company, Icecreamists, has reportedly featured a logo that has been deemed incredibly similar to those featured on the band’s single, “God Save The Queen.” The advertisement features a picture of the Queen in front of a Union Jack, with an ice cream spoon in her mouth and the words “God Save The Cream” written across her face. The Sex Pistols’ lawyers plan to argue that the ad campaign is much too similar to the band’s designer Jamie Reid’s work.

Icecreamists is said to have received a letter from the band’s lawyers back in August, stipulating that the company stop using the Sex Pistols’ influence to advertise their products. However, the founder of Icecreamists, Matt O’Connor, is a little shocked about the controversy.

“We are a bit dumbfounded that a group that made its reputation for being banned is trying to ban one of our ice creams,” O’Connor said.

Icecreamists is currently using the logo to advertise their product on anything from T-shirts to deck chairs. The company also features an ice-cream based cocktail called the Sex Pistol, although the usage of that name does not appear to be under dispute.

The boutique ice-cream maker describes itself as a “subversive ice-cream brand,” according to The Guardian. The company is running a concession within the Selfridges storefront on Oxford Street in central London until November.

Sex Pistols Singer’s Racist, Violent Assault on Bloc Party Singer

Kele Okereke, the singer for Bloc Party, was attacked Saturday by Sex Pistols singer John Lydon.

Okereke approached Lydon as a fan, asking about a possible reunion of his post-Sex Pistols band, Public Image Ltd.

Okereke told the Guardian UK that Lydon then became “intimidating and aggressive while his entourage responded with a racist tirade, including the statement, ‘your problem is your black attitude’.” Okereke is of Nigerian descent.

Okereke was left with “severe facial bruising and a split lip” following the assault, but that wasn’t the worst part for him. “It’s not an issue of the physical assault, even though it was an unprovoked attack,” Okereke commented. “It is the fact that race was brought into the matter so readily. Someone as respected and as intelligent as Lydon should know better than to bring race into the equation, or socialise with and encourage those who hold such narrow-minded attitudes.

“I am disappointed that someone I held with such high regard turns out to be such a bigot.”

Several other bands witness the attack and stepped in on Okereke’s behalf.

The Sex Pistols Call Rock Hall of Fame A ‘Piss Stain’

The Sex Pistols, along with fellow music icons Black Sabbath, Miles Davis, Lynyrd Skynard, and Blondie, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame late last year. But now with induction ceremonies just around the corner, the punk band is making it clear that they’re not so thrilled about the honours.

In a handwritten letter posted on the group’s website Friday morning, the Sex Pistols compared the hall to “urine in wine,” and said they would not be attending the ceremonies scheduled for March 13 in New York City.

“Were (sic) not your monkeys and so what? Fame at $25,000 if we paid for a table, or $15,000 to squeak up in the gallery, goes to a non-profit organisation (sic) selling us a load of old famous,” the letter read, apparently referring to the price of ceremony tickets. However, the Associated Press reports that a hall of fame representative said each inductee gets two free tickets, and other tickets are $2,500.

In response, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation executive director Susan Evans said, “They are being the outrageous punksters they are, and that’s rock and roll.”

The band added in the letter that “next to the Sex-Pistols rock and roll and that hall of fame is a piss stain.” The “God Save The Queen” rockers have been eligible for the Hall of Fame since 2001 but have been snubbed by industry voters until now.
