Scarlett Johansson Covers Jeff Buckley For Movie Soundtrack

Scarlett Johansson has recorded another cover, this time for the soundtrack to her latest movie, “He’s Just Not That Into You.”

The album, which hits stores Feb. 3, features her piano-accompanied rendition of Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye.”

The original version appeared on 1994’s “Grace,” the only complete studio album released by Buckley before he drowned in 1997 at the age of 30.

Other artists featured on the soundtrack are My Morning Jacket, R.E.M., Talking Heads, Wilco, the Replacements and the Cure.

The movie, based on a self-help book that itself was based on an episode of “Sex & The City,” hits theatres Feb. 6.

Besides Johansson, the romantic comedy stars Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Ginnifer Goodwin, Bradley Cooper and others.

Best known as an actress, Johansson released “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” an album consisting mostly of Tom Waits covers, last year.

Scarlett Johansson Talks Second Album

Scarlett Johansson is already planning a followup to “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” her debut album that was released in the spring.

The actress told MTV News that a sophomore album would feature original material, unlike her previous LP, which contained ten Tom Waits covers and an original composition.

“I don’t think I’d do covers, so it’d be a project that I have to dedicate myself to,” she said. “I feel like that’s something for the future.”

If she had to cover someone else, she said, she would probably choose for Leonard Cohen, who she previously named as someone she’d like to work with.

A new album won’t be released anytime soon, though. Johansson said she’ll have to wait to work on it due to her busy schedule, which includes her recent marriage to fellow actor Ryan Reynolds and two upcoming movie releases: the action-drama “The Spirit” and the comedy “He’s Just Not That Into You.”

She will also begin shooting her next big-screen project, “Amazon,” next year.

Scarlett Johansson, Feist Among Nobel Lineup

Scarlett Johansson is set to host the upcoming Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which will include performances by Feist and Diana Ross.

Also slated to play the Dec. 11 event in Oslo is an array of international talent, including Dierks Bentley, Julieta Venegas, Seun Kuti, Marit Larsen, Nick Davies and The Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

Additional acts will be announced in the coming few weeks.

The 15th annual show will take place the day after former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari receives the Nobel Peace Prize for his diplomatic and peacemaking work over more than three decades.

Johansson release a statement saying she was “truly honoured” to be hosting the tribute to Ahtisaari.

“His tireless efforts to promote peace on a global scale are an inspiration to us all,” she said.

The actress herself received high praises from Geir Lundestad, secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, who called her “politically engaged and conscious” in an interview with the VG newspaper.

Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson Tie the Knot

Congrats to the new Hollywood couple!

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson have officially tied the knot on Saturday in Vancouver, Canada, after having announced their engagement four months ago.

The two Hollywood actors who have been dating since February 2007, according to Us Magazine, wed at a remote wilderness resort just outside the city.

Reynolds, 31 and a native of Vancouver, is most notably known for his roles in films such as “Van Wilder,” “Blade Trinity,” “The Amityville Horror,” and will be seen in upcoming movies such as “Fireflies in the Garden,” “Adventureland,” and “X-Men:Origins.”

Johansson, 23, is well known for her performances in “Lost in Translation,” “Girl with a Pearl Earing,” and will be seen in her upcoming films, “The Spirit” and “He’s Just Not That into You.”

Few details are available, but guests reportedly included Scarlett’s mother, Melanie Sloan, and her brother Adrian Johansson.

Ryan Too Jealous Over Scarlett’s Leading Men?

The National Enquirer reports that Ryan Reynold’s jealous streak may be a threat to his engagement to Scarlett Johansson.

Reynolds is said to be insecure about the good-looking men Johansson works with. “He almost drove Scarlett away,” a source told The Enquirer. “Now that she is marrying him, she told him in no uncertain terms to quit being jealous – after all, he’s the one who is shattering many men’s dreams of getting sexy Scarlett down the aisle. But it drives him crazy when other guys flirt with her.”

Johansson just filmed a movie with Orlando Bloom and Ethan Hawke.

Scarlett’s Head Too Big For Cannes

Now that she’s engaged to Canadian hunk Ryan Gosling, Scarlett Johansson may be becoming too big for her britches.

Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper reports that Johansson was absent from the premier of her new Woody Allen film at Cannes because the studio refused to meet her ridiculous demands.

She insisted that her $7,800-a-day make-up artist be paid to accompany her. She also refused to stay at the same hotel where Allen and co-star Penelope Cruz were staying, instead saying she required a hotel 30 miles outside of Cannes.

An executive close to the film said that “it wasn’t acceptable that Scarlett would be having to come in from that distance every day, most likely turning up late and it would have thrown schedules into a lot of confusion.”

Allen, normally quite enamoured with Johansson, is said to be annoyed that she’s not being a team player.

Johansson’s rep blamed conflicting schedules for Johansson’s absence.

The film, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” which features a kiss between Johansson and Cruz, received a ten-minute standing ovation at the festival.

Ryan and Scarlett Announce Engagement

Canadian heartthrob Ryan Reynolds is off the market again. He and girlfriend of more than a year, Scarlett Johansson, have announced that they are engaged.

Reports of their engagement began circulating in January. But they did not confirm their “recent” engagement until yesterday with People magazine – and it just so happens that Johansson’s debut album was released today.

Of their engagement, Johansson’s rep told People that the lovebirds are “both thrilled.”

Reynolds, 31, will next appear in a film called, “The Proposal” – something that he is now a seasoned verteran at. Reynolds never made it down the aisle when he was engaged to singer Alanis Morissette.

David Bowie Sings on Scarlett’s Album

Actors making the transition to recording artist are usually looked at with disdain, but it’s pretty hard to argue with David Bowie.

Bowie croons along with Scarlett Johansson on two tracks of her upcoming Tom Waits cover album, reports Ananova.com.

With big name support like that, the future looks bright for Johansson’s singing career. But will Waits himself be a fan?

“I sent him some of the early recordings,” Johansson noted, “and he said, ‘Go ahead.’ I’ve heard he’s very pleased.”

Meanwhile, Johansson’s day job is keeping her busy, with “The Other Boleyn Girl” opening next weekend.

Scarlett Johansson: ‘I’m engaged to Barack Obama’

Amidst rumours that Scarlett Johansson and Canadian beau, Ryan Reynolds, are making plans to walk down the aisle, the actress has candidly dispelled any marriage myths.

In response to the engagement question, the 23-year-old actress cheekily told reporters that her heart belongs to presidential candidate, Senator Barack Obama.

“I am engaged … to Barack Obama. My heart belongs to Barack, and that is who I am currently, finally, engaged to. Yes,” she said, according to E! Online.

Johansson hasn’t been shy about her political support for the Senator as she publicly stepped out to support the Democratic contender at the Iowa caucuses.
