Yes, the seventh film of the Saw franchise will be the last one released. After $730 million made box offices worldwide, around 30 million DVD’s sold, and a whole lot of booby traps, the series of horror movies will come to close when Saw VII 3D is released later this year.
“It’s time to stop,” producer Oren Koules told USA Today. “We have told the story we wanted to tell, and this is going to be a great farewell.”
The seventh instalment of the Saw series is said to be the most gruesome, but they managed to dodge the NC-17 rating and settled with an R. Commenting on the rating, producer Mark Burg said “I’m surprised we got it,” continuing, “it’s more violent than any of them. But it’s in 3-D, it answers all the questions, it comes full circle. We have the goods on this one.”
Director James Wan’s first Saw film was produced for $1 million, filmed in 17 days, and made an outstanding $55 million, making the all of the following films possible. With the boundary-pushing gruesome content, it should come as no surprise that there are people who detest the films entirely.
Tobin Bell, who plays Jigsaw in the films, has a simple answer to those kinds of comments though. “If people don’t want to look at certain things, they shouldn’t go,” he says. “You can say what you want about it, but Saw fans have loved and supported it every year. We must have been doing something right.”
Saw VII 3D will be released on October 29.
“Highschool Musical 3: Senior Year” has earned the title of the best opening weekend for a musical. Disney’s popular song-and-dance series starring Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale grossed a hefty $42 million in box office sales this past weekend.
Other movies didn’t stay far behind. The fifth installment of the Saw series came in second place with $30 million for “Saw V”, pushing the series past the horror flick “Friday the 13th” making Saw V the highest-grossing horror franchise in history.
Mark Wahlberg’s “Max Payne” came in third place with $7.6 million. The film based on a video game has now made $29.7 million overall.
Another Disney flick, “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” came in fourth place with $6.9 million this past weekend, followed by “Pride and Glory,” which made $6.3 million in its first week of release.

The director of the first two SAW horror sequels has signed on for the film’s next installment, SAW IV.
DARREN LYNN BOUSMAN will shoot the next chapter in the lucrative franchise in Toronto, Canada in April.
The previous three films revolved around the antics of a sickly serial killer named JIGSAW, played by TOBIN BELL.
Bousman explains, “It’s not often that a filmmaker is given the opportunity to follow a genuinely compelling character through two films, much less three.
“So I’m very excited about picking up the reins on Saw IV, and delving even deeper into the Jigsaw legend.”
The Saw series, which has dominated the Halloween box office for the past three years, has grossed more than $400 million worldwide.
The next installment is due for worldwide release on October 26.

A radio advertisement for horror movie SAW III has been banned from airing during the periods when parents drive their children to and from school, after complaints it scared young kids.
The British commercial for the DVD release of the film – which can only be viewed by persons over 18 years old – features a woman screaming and pleading for help as the sound of a chainsaw roars in the background.
The ad was receiving airplay during peak times on several major radio stations across the country.
But the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority issued the ban after receiving complaints from five concerned mothers, and ruled the advertisement should not be played when youngsters could be listening.
A spokesperson says, “We considered the ads were likely to harm children.”

“Saw” has officially become a franchise.
The third film in the horror series, “Saw III,” is scheduled to hit theatres on October 27, 2006, Lionsgate announced today.
Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed “Saw II,” will return to the director’s chair. Leigh Whannell and James Wan, who wrote the first two films, will do so again for “Saw III.”
“Saw” and “Saw II” have grossed about $250 million worldwide at the box office.
?Yes, there will be more blood,? said Peter Block, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-productions, and Jason Constantine, Lionsgate Senior VP of Acquisitions, in a join statement. ?’Saw III’ will involve the same creative forces responsible for the tremendous success of ‘Saw II.’
“We are proud to be partnered with some of the most disturbing creative talents on the planet, and the ‘Saw’ franchise will ensure that gore becomes every bit as much a Halloween staple as ghosts, goblins and candy corn.?
The film will be dedicated to “Saw” producer Gregg Hoffman, who passed away in November of last year.
“We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the Saw franchise?s core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the Saw saga. Jigsaw himself would be proud,” said producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules.
