Howard Stern has certainly been around the block for a few decades, but there is no question he’s still in the game.

On Thursday Howard Stern announced he would continue his stint on Sirius/XM for another five years. This announcement subjected the Sirius/XM customer service representatives with a tidal wave of phone calls, with peopling renewing their subscriptions to the service, and people signing up for new accounts.

The story has become one of the most read this week on TMZ, along with other sites. So maybe Stern is the king of all media?

We have some exciting news. In our continual conquest to be a next generation multi platform media company, we are pleased to announce andPOP will be on the radio starting Friday September 18th @ 5pm on XM Canada’s Laugh Attack Channel (channel 153). The show will feature the uniqueness of the website but on the radio (yes an amazing concept). So you can listen to some interviews, here us banter about the entertainment biz, and also be introduced to some unique characters like Euclid Laframboise. Euclid will be on the show while he also makes a living building coffins out of Thule racks. Watch the vid and you will understand.

Oprah Starting a Radio Station

Oprah Winfrey has signed a three-year U.S.$55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio to launch her own radio station.

The new channel, named Oprah and Friends, will focus on fitness, health and self-development, according to E Online.

Planned for a September launch, it will feature a weekly show with the talk-show queen and her friend Gayle King.

“Together with my friends, we look forward to creating a programme that will entertain, inform and inspire our listening audience,” says Winfrey.

Satellite Radio Gets Approval In Canada

Canadians can now tune into the hundreds of commercial free music and talk radio channels that are being broadcasted by both Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio as the CRTC has approved the application to let Canadians enjoy this updated medium.

Sirius Canada, which is owned by Sirius, CBC and Standard Radio, and XM Canada, which is owned by Canadian Satellite Radio and XM Radio, will bring to Canada all the great content that currently is heard around the United States. In addition to these two players, CHUM and Astral Media, will work together to compete as the little Canadian satellite radio player.

The companies must follow the regulations set forth under the Broadcasting Act, which states that 35% of content must be Canadian and that 65% of french channels must be french music. Expect the companies to introduce some new Canadian only channels that are not available south of the border.

Subscription fees for the services will range between $9.95 and $12.99 Canadian. A special device will be required to listen to satellite radio. Users can expect the service to be available within the next year.
