I’ve written a couple articles about Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ song “Same Love” now and it gets me EVERY TIME. No seriously, it makes me all teary eyed and weepy in the office because I’m overwhelmed at how beautiful the message is. Ben Haggerty performed the song with Mary Lambert on Ellen, bringing the audience to their feet.
Before they performed, Ellen, who is married to Portia de Rossi, told the audience how much the song means to her and why everyone should care about the artists: “No other artist in hip hop history have ever taken a stand for marriage equality like they have.”
I love one of the top rated comments on YouTube:
This song made me come out, don’t be afraid. I’m only 19 and it went really fucking good, I didn’t get any negativity from my family or friends, I got support and acceptance all around. But take it slowly, start with your best friends, then some of your family members, once I did that I made a status on facebook. Just make sure you word it out right. I only did that 2 months ago, and I’ve never been more happy, just remember in the end you’re doing it for yourself
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ new touching video for “Same Love” chronicles the life of a gay man from his birth to his marriage to his death. The seven-minute video was created in support of marriage equality and literally makes me want to bawl (in a good way).
The beautiful video, which was directed by Ryan Lewis, Jon Jon Augustavo and Tricia Davis, encourages love and acceptance over hatred. It’s a strong, goosebump-worthy message that everyone needs to see. It’s especially pertinent in the rap industry, where homophobia is commmon.
The song features singer Mary Lambert and will be on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ debut album The Heist, out on Oct. 9.
They write on YouTube: “We support civil rights, and hope WA State voters will APPROVE REF 74 and legalize marriage equality.” You can visit Music For Marriage Equality for more information.
