Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen caused a ruckus at a fashion show in Milan Friday when he stormed the catwalk as his alter-ego Bruno.

In character as the flamboyant Austrian fashion reporter, Cohen jumped into the middle of Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz De La Prada’s show and strutted around the runway, wearing a blonde wig as well as a black cloak and Velcro suit covered with handbags, boots and other accessories.

Security quickly stepped in and captured the catwalk-crasher before turning him over to police.

Cohen was detained at a police station for about half an hour, while someone was sent to his hotel to fetch his passport for identification.

He was eventually released without charge.

It was the second time during Milan’s fashion week that the actor had crashed an event. Cohen and his crew snuck into the backstage area of Italian label Iceberg’s show Wednesday, where a member of Cohen’s team ran around and charged into the clothes racks.

Security also thwarted an attempt by Cohen to crash another event Thursday, this time the Dsquared fashion show of Toronto-born, Milan-based designers Dean and Dan Caten.

Cohen is currently filming a new movie centring around the Bruno character. However, MTV.com reports that the comedian’s publicist, Matt Labov, would neither confirm nor deny that Cohen’s catwalk invasion will be included in the film, which is due out in May.

The Cambridge University-educated Cohen is well-known for his outrageous characters. Besides Bruno, he has portrayed Ali G, a dim-witted hip-hop interviewer, and Borat, a blundering reporter from Kazakhstan.

The latter character gave rise to the 2006 mockumentary “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.”
