Ruben Studdard, the former champ of “American Idol,” exchanged vows with his girlfriend on Saturday, reports E! News.
Studdard had 20 groomsmen by his side at the ceremony that took place at Canterbury United Methodist Church in his hometown of Birmingham, Ala.
The season two “Idol” winner met Surata Zuri McCants two years ago at a Wal-Mart in Atlanta, where Studdard was signing CDs. Studdard reportedly followed McCants into the toy aisle and asked for her phone number. Although Studdard may have gotten lucky in the love department, his music career has not been successful.
“For Surata to stand by me even though my career is in the tank is a testament to our love. She is a one of a kind woman, and if I have to keep singing national anthem’s forever to pay the bills, I’ll do it to make her happy,” said Studdard.
Perhaps the new Mrs. Studdard thought her husband would turn out to be rich and famous.
Ruben Studdard is back with a new album, a new look and his signature velvet sound. Legendary artist Gladys Knight dubbed him the “Velvet Teddy Bear” right before he won American Idol: Season 2 back in 2003. He followed up his win with Soulful in 2003 which went Platinum and I Need an Angel in 2004 which went Gold. During his two year hiatus Ruben took stock and decided to commit to change his life for a healthier existence. He shed some weight and got back in the studio healthier, happier and ready to return to mainstream music singing love songs just for his fans.

Ruben Studdard, the 2003 winner of American Idol, has been awarded $2 million US in a lawsuit against his former manager.
The suit was brought against Ronald W. Edwards and his promotions company, Sez Inc., after Edwards misappropriated the singer’s funds and identity, according to E! Online.
Edwards also happens to be Studdard’s godfather.
The Alabama court awarded the 26-year-old $500,000 in actual damages and an additional $1.5 million in punitive damages.
Edwards improperly used Studdard’s credit cards, forged his signature on paperwork, and took money from his bank accounts, including $10,000 to pay off a personal bank loan.
To date, Studdard has sold more than 2 million records. His last effort was 2004′s “I Need an Angel.”
Ruben Studdard, the American Idol, will now release his debut album, “Soulful,” November 11, pushed back from the planned October release date.
“I’ve been touring non-stop and haven’t had the chance to make my album the way I want to,” Studdard said in a statement, according to MTV. “In order to work with the best of the best … I need time to vibe with them so that I can put out the best album possible.”
The “best of the best” Studdard refers to is the likes of R. Kelly and Missy Elliott.
Kelly wrote and will produce “Send Me An Angel,” which is described as an inspirational song.
Clay Aiken, the runner-up on the show, will release his self-titled album October 14.
