Roy of Siegfried and Roy Enters Rehab
Roy Horn of the illusionist duo Siegfried and Roy has checked himself into a rehabilitation centre in Germany on Friday, 18 months after almost being mauled to death by a tiger onstage in Las Vegas. leaving him partially paralyzed.
No details about why he entered the rehabilitation centre in Bad Hellibrun were released.
“Siegfried and I are thrilled to return to our home country and excited with the programs set forth by the great doctors and staff at the world-class Leonardis Clinic. The support we have received from our fans in Germany has been overwhelming and continues to inspire me daily,” said Horn, 60, in a statement.
Horn was attacked by a 380-pound tiger named Montecore during a performance at The Mirage Resort on October 3, 2003. The tiger bit into Horn’s neck and dragged him offstage.
He sustained four deep wounds, a crushed trachea and a damaged artery that carries oxygen to the brain. Horn also suffered a stroke but he blamed it on medication.
He said that he fainted during the performance and the tiger was trying to help him though animal experts remain skeptical.
Siegfried and Roy’s show ran for 13 years in Las Vegas but it was cancelled in August to make way for Horn’s long recovery.
