British reality TV guru MARK BURNETT is being sued by a woman who claims he stole her idea for hit US talent show ROCK STAR.
Producer SHARLENE SULLIVAN alleges she registered a show synopsis called Rock Star with the Writers Guild Of America, in which “lead vocalists for rock bands would compete and would be judged by well known musicians/rock stars” in 2002.
Sullivan was then appalled when she learned all about SURVIVOR and THE APPRENTICE creator Burnett’s show of the same name – with the same format.
The producer is now demanding $2 million in damages, claiming Burnett was part of an alleged conspiracy to steal her idea for the reality show, according to TMZ.com.
Burnett’s Rock Star series have so far found frontmen for INXS and TOMMY LEE’s new supergroup SUPERNOVA.

The newest band to look for a lead singer through television already has its first lawsuit, E! Online reports.
Mark Burnett Productions, CBS and the band Supernova (AKA Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted) are being sued for copyright infringement from the Orange County based band called Supernova.
The suit was filed in U.S. District Court on June 27, and is seeking Rock Star not call their band Supernova, and that they destroy anything promoting the band’s name.
The original Supernova is also seeking that a public statement be made, letting people know that Rock Star’s Supernova is not associated with the Orange County Supernova.
Burnett has copyright patents pending on the name Supernova for the band and the television show, but the Orange County group’s lawyer claims the band already had the rights to the name.
“Our clients believe they have the superior right on the mark Supernova. (The group) has a long-standing common-law trademark right to the mark,” John Mizhir, the band’s lawyer, said to the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Mark Burnett’s lawyer says he has the rights to the name, and that the lawsuit has no merit.
Two Canadians are among this year’s contestants on the new season for “Rock Star.”
Lukas Rossi of Toronto and Jenny Galt of Vancouver will vie for a spot in the new band “Supernova” which is comprised of M?tley Cr?e drummer Tommy Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and Gun N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke.
The two Canadians comprise the 15 finalists that were found in live auditions in select cities, or by sending in an audition tape. The other 15 include 11 Americans, one Australian and one contestant from Iceland.
The new season premiered tonight on Global, with another episode airing tomorrow evening.
Last season, Canadian J.D. Fortune won and became the new lead singer of INXS. Her recorded a new album with the band, and is currently touring with them.
A new rock supergroup will be complete as soon as a winner is chosen on Rock Star: The Series, set to air this summer.
The winner of the series will be the lead singer for a band that will be called Supernova.
The band will include drummer Tommy Lee from Motley Crue, former Metallica guitarist Jason Newsted and guitarist Gilby Clarke of Guns N’ Roses fame.
The talent search has been going on for about a month, but competitors had no idea who they were audition for until now.
Besides being part of Motley Crue, Lee has spent time recently as a DJ.
Newsted joined Metallica 1986 following the death of their bassist, Cliff Burton. Newsted quit the band in 2001 and later joined Voivod and played with Ozzy Osbourne in 2003.
Clarke spent three years with Guns N’ Roses before being fired by Axl Rose. He most recently was part of the reformed MC5.
Rock Star debuts this summer on CBS and Global.
In its debut last season, INXS chose Toronto’s J.D. Fortune as its new lead singer.
The piles of rumours surrounding the second season of Rock Star will be revealed soon? probably.
Auditions are set for March across the U.S., as well as two spots in Canada: March 13 at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto and March 23 at The Roxy in Vancouver.
The surviving members of INXS chose J.D. Forune of Toronto to be their lead singer in the first season of the show.
But no band has been announced for the second season, titled “Rock Star: the Series.”
Van Halen and Queen have both been rumoured to be the choosing band. Queen is currently touring with Paul Rodgers and happy with their current situation (and their tour schedule doesn’t match up with the Rock Star schedule). Van Halen is unlikely because David Lee Roth is still alive and would have something to say should his former band members seek to replace him.
According to a press release released by Global, the network that will air the show in Canada, producers say the they are seeking the lead singer for “an all-star rock ‘n’ roll supergroup.”
Think “supergroup” and a few bands come to mind:
But the Dave Navarro connection is not dead. He is part of another group called Panic Channel, which features every member of Janes Addiction except flamboyant lead singer Perry Farrell. They have been recording an album, but nothing has been released, and their web site features nothing more than a logo. Could this be the band?
Producers aren’t saying if they will announce the band before the auditions, so you may be auditioning for an unannounced band. Good luck.
