Oscar winner Roberto Benigni performed a striptease on prime time Italian news.

Reuters reports that on Saturday night, viewers across Italy were left open-mouthed along with the newscaster when Benigni began unbuttoning his shirt during an interview. He then removed his shirt and draped it over the newscaster’s shoulders.

Benigni, a Best Actor winner for Life is Beautiful, was on Italy’s most-watched evening news program promoting his new film The Tiger and the Snow, which is apparently his attempt to make a happy uplifting movie about the war in Iraq. If you recall, Life is Beautiful was his happy uplifting movie about the Holocaust.

An outspoken critic of Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, Benigni jumped behind the anchor during the opening credits of the news and announced “Berlusconi has resigned.” That’s pretty funny, you have to admit. On Friday, Benigni led a protest in Rome against the government’s decision to cut state arts funding.

During the 1998 Academy Awards, Benigni also let loose with some wacky antics. When it was announced that Life is Beautiful had won the best foreign film award, he climbed on the back of his seat and applauded the audience.
