Paula Abdul To Negotiate Contract For American Idol Season 9

Paula Abdul’s “American Idol “ contract may have expired last season, but that doesn’t mean she’ll be leaving the singing competition any time soon.

“I’ve been invited to stay the duration of the show, however long it lasts,” Abdul told the Associated Press. She continued by saying the invitation to come back on the show is subject to agreement.

As usual, it seems like one guy knew the chances of Abdul returning to “Idol” were great. Back in May, Simon Cowell told Ellen Degeneres, “Everyone’s going to be back. Absolutely.”

However, he didn’t seem too happy that adding a fourth judge would give him less time to speak. “One week, literally, we couldn’t talk, so 10 minutes before the show started, they said, ‘Oh, by the way, you can’t talk for half the show. It’s rather like saying in a singing competition to the singers, ‘Half of you can’t sing.’ It was just crazy.”

The Hills To Return (Sans Lauren Conrad)

MTV has announced their hit show “The Hills” will return for another season later this year without Lauren Conrad, its original star.

“MTV viewers will find out life in Los Angeles only gets more complicated as friendships, relationships and loyalties are tested like never before as ‘The Hills’ returns this fall with more episodes of season five,” read a press release from the network to MTV News.

According to MTV, Audrina Patridge, Stephanie Pratt, Lo Bosworth, Brody Jenner and Justin Bobby will be back for the new season.

And of course, the newlyweds will be returning as well. “Spencer and Heidi will be newlyweds. So the stakes are higher than ever before for the two to make things work,” read the statement issued to MTV News.

Friend and “The City” star Whitney Port tells MTV News why she thinks Conrad left the show. “I think at this point, she’s put everybody else and the audience in front of her for the last eight years, so now she decided she needs to put herself first”.

David Letterman Returning To Television – With Writers

David Letterman will return to late night television very soon – and, he’ll have writers!

The 60-year-old host owns his show, as well as being the producer. So Letterman was able to arrange his own contract with the Writer’s Guild of America, which is still on strike. Letterman is also a card-carrying WGA member.

“Late Night With David Letterman” will be the only talk show that has the luxury of staff writers. It is expected that NBC will soon announce the writer-less return of Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno’s shows in January.

Letterman also made waves by being the first of his late night cohorts to pay his staff out of his own pocket during the WGA strike.
