Posted on andPOP:

Fans of both Adam Lambert and Eminem have weighed in with MTV on the rapper’s controversial anti-gay lyric from the song “Elevator.”

Eminem, whose new album Relapse: Refill will be officially released on December 21st, has once again revealed his controversial opinion of homosexuality…shocking. But this time there were specific targets:

“Sorry, Lance, Mr. Lambert and Aiken ain’t gonna make it/ They get so mad, when I call them both fake/ It’s all these f—ing voices in my head, I can’t take it/ Someone shut that f—ing baby up, before I shake it.”

Doesn’t seem so harsh until you here the fake/it’s combo, and then you understand that Eminem is still as reckless as always.

There are obviously two sides to the controversy: those who see defamation in music as a cheap, hurtful tool (leave this stuff out of the industry), and those Eminem fans who are all too familiar, and perhaps to accepting, of Eminem’s message (If you don’t like it don’t listen).

If any aspect of this controversy pisses you off, that was the point.

Posted on andPOP:

New songs from Emineme’s re-release of his Relapse LP have entered the world on the internet as of Thursday (December 3). The album, Relapse: Refill will be conveniently be released right before Christmas, on December 21.

The two songs, entitled “Elevator” and “Buffalo Bill” are patent-Enimem: satirical raps that call out other famous names, manic rhymes and brimming with humor.

The track “Elevator” is filled with lyrics which narrate the extravagant life that Slim Shady is enjoying now that he is famous. According to mtvnews.com, the controversial rapper also makes reference to NSYNC’s former member Lance Bass as well as two “American Idol” contestants, Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert, with the line “Sorry, Lance, Mr. Aiken and Lambert ain’t gonna make it.” The track also includes the luxury of using gold toilet paper, and of course, having an elevator in his opulent mansion.

The second song, “Buffalo Bill” is a reference to the wrongdoer from “Silence of the Lambs” that Clarice Starling has to talk to Hannibal Lecter about. The skinning of women and severing of limbs are main topics in this psychotic rap. Somehow, this brings up references to one of Eminem’s favorite victims, Lindsay Lohan.

With Relapse 2 slated to be released in 2010, this album is a teaser for what’s to come. According to aceshowbiz.com, Eminem said “When I finished ‘Relapse’, I had a whole album of material that didn’t make it that I wasn’t ready to throw away, so that was going to be ‘Relapse 2′. But then I got with [Dr.] Dre in Hawaii and started recording more, and now the new material has knocked out all the old songs.”

Despite the release of Relapse: Refill later this month, the rapper still plans to release Relapse 2, the follow-up to his comeback CD, Relapse.

“When I finished Relapse, I had a whole album of material that didn’t make it that I wasn’t ready to throw away, so that was going to be Relapse 2,” he told Complex. “But then I got with Dre in Hawaii and started recording more, and now the new material has knocked out all the old songs.”

“Making Relapse, I was still working the drugs out of my system, so there was a lot of…just jokey shit,” he continued. “It was a lot of punchline-y, funny, shock value – kind of going back to The Slim Shady LP. And that was cool, but I’ve kind of flipped the page. Now I’m going for songs instead of one-liners.”

Eminem said he found similarities between his own addiction and the death of Michael Jackson. Eminem does not shy away from talking about his reliance on prescription drugs on Relapse, and said that being a celebrity with the amount of fame Jackson had to deal with could be deathly.

“I definitely can relate, and it’s a shame if he didn’t have anybody there to just say, ‘Michael, you’re an addict, you need help,’” he said. “It’s one of the pitfalls of fame.” Eminem famously poked fun at Jackson in his 2004 video for his song “Just Lose It.”

Battling addiction also led Eminem to go back to his natural hair colour. After being platinum blond for a decade, he returned to his natural brown hair.

“Once I got sober I was like, ‘What the fuck am I doing? I’m like 35 years old, am I going to keep dying my hair fucking blond?’ Also it was about letting go,” he said. “The hair reminded me of my addiction, and I hated myself when I was in my addiction. I hated myself worse than anyone could ever hate me.”

As for fellow rapper Lil Wayne, who joined Eminem on the song “Forever,” Eminem said it took him a little while to appreciate his co-worker’s talent.

“There was the hype about him, but I didn’t see what all the hype was about,” he said. “I felt like he was good, certainly above average from his singles, but it was like, ‘Is he that dope?’ Then I listened to the whole album and was like, ‘Wow! My man is that dope – Lil Wayne is fucking dope!’ You’ve got to listen to a Lil Wayne song four, five, or six times to actually catch everything he’s saying.”

Lil Wayne is rumored to have recruited Eminem for a track on his upcoming album Rebirth.

Relapse: Refill is due out Dec. 21.

Eminem will release Relapse: The Refill – not to be confused with Relapse 2- on Dec. 21, the rapper announced on his website last week, reports rollingstone.com.

The Refill will include the entire Dr. Dre-produced Relapse album, plus seven songs that didn’t originally make the cut. The DJ Hero exclusive song “Taking My Ball,” plus the Eminem/Drake/Lil Wayne/Kanye West collaboration “Forever” will be included on The Refill, along with five other previously unreleased tracks.

Still, Eminem does promise the Relapse 2, the second album of his comeback after a hard battle with drug addiction. But with the release of The Refill, it looks like Relapse 2 is now slotted for a 2010 release.

“I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned,’ Eminem said. “Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year.”

“I got back in with Dre and a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction wich made me start from scratch,” he continued. “The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want the other stuff heard.”

The rap star has reportedly been working hard in recent months on Relapse 2, joined in the studio by producers such as Mr. Porter and Just Blaze. So the second album won’t be a straight-Dre deal.

“I definitely feel like I’m in a different space right now,” Eminem said. “With the last record, I think a lot of it had to do with me getting sober, my eyes being open again. With Relapse, I wanted to prove myself that I could still do it.”

“Now I’m at a point where I’m blessed enough to be in a position where I don’t need to put out records, but I want to,” he said.

Eminem recently performed at the American Music Awards.

Posted on andPOP:

Eminem’s new album will be much more “emotionally driven” than the first Relapse, MTV news reports.

“[The album] is gonna be a lot different than people expect,” Eminem said in an interview on his Shade 45 satellite-radio station, “The last record I made, I think I was concentrating more on spitting. On this album, I feel like there’s some of that, but I went back to songs with [feelings] to them as opposed to just rap records.”

Eminem said in the interview that he’s working with artists Just Blaze and D12’s Mr. Porter. Just Blaze is known more famously as a major DJ in the music industry, but is reportedly rapping on several tracks on Relapse 2.

“We are working on Relapse 2 pretty heavily. As of yesterday, we’ve done about six or seven records,” Blaze said in an interview with Distortion 2 Static.

Eminem also addressed rumours of an upcoming tour: “It just kind of worked out this way, where I wanted to fall back from live performances for right now and concentrate on making the best music I could make. After this record comes out, we’ll see what happens from there.”

Eminem’s latest release, Taking my Ball, possesses a similar tone to many of the songs on the first relapse album, but the leaked track Low, Down is a refreshing flashback of music from Eminem’s first two studio albums.

Taking my Ball, along with several other tracks, will appear on the video game DJ Hero: Renegade Edition.

Eminem’s latest studio release “Relapse,” a first in almost five years, grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Albums chart.

Meanwhile, Greenday took the No. 2 spot with sales of 166,000 copies for “21st Century Breakdown,” per Nielsen SoundScan.

Also, 6 other new albums hit the Top 10. Kenny Chesney landed the No. 3 spot with “Greatest Hits II,” followed by Method Man & Redman at No. 4 (selling 63,000 copies of “Blackout! 2.”

Funny-man Dane Cook managed to grab the No. 5 spot “ISolated INcident,” followed by Busta Rhymes who sold 59,000 of his album “Back on My B.S.”

Closing up the Top 10 are Tori Amos’ “Abnormally Attracted to Sin” and “A Fine Mess” by Kate Voegele.

Album sales went up 13 per cent from last week, which might have something to do with the number of new discs released. However sales are down 9 per cent from the same sales week in 2008.

The 40-minute set at Motor City Hotel featured seven tracks off the new album, as well as the “8 Mile” hit “Lose Yourself.” For the latter track, the rapper brought several members of D12 up to the stage to accompany him.

According to Rolling Stone, Eminem also honoured his close friend Proof, who was shot and killed in 2006, with a shout-out. “I was a little bit nervous ’cause I don’t have my right-hand man tonight. I know you know who I’m talking about,” the rapper said, as the crowd chanted “Proof!”

Fans had several ways of getting their hands on tickets for the gig, including following scavenger hunt-style messages on the rapper’s Twitter page prior to the show.

Among the Tweets were: “Ok, Paul has a pair of tix at the Original Pancake House on Woodward and 14 Mile. He’s hungry, so come quick;” and “A man with a mohawk named Andrew is standing in front of Comerica Park at the Tiger. He has four tickets.”

According to mtvnews.com, Dre produced the majority of the album, save for one track Eminem did himself. The rapper said Dre’s handling the bulk of the production allowed him to experiment even more with his flow on this project, compared with his previous efforts.

“I really got a chance to step away from the boards,” Eminem said. “I tried to pick the [Dre beats] that challenged me, rhythm-wise. I ended up experimenting with a bunch of different flows. I try to do that every album, but this time I had a chance to go all out with it. Make every flow different and pick unique beats.”

Following the release of “We Made You” earlier this month, the next single from Relapse is slated to be “3 A.M.,” a darker selection on the album, according to Eminem. A video for the song was recently shot in Detroit and is rumored to be available later this week. Relapse 2, which Em has said he wants to release later this year, is also almost complete, he added.

MTV.com reports that the long awaited and eagerly anticipated album from Eminem will be available sooner than expected with the first LP slated for May, 19th and the first single and video hitting airwaves on April, 7th.

To add to the excitement of the long awaited material, Interscope Records announced on March, 5th tthat Eminem will be gracing his fans with not only one album this year, but two. The albums will be titled Relapse and relapse 2, which will be supposedly released halfway though this year, but has no solid release date as of yet.

“A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year,” Eminem said in the press release. “I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.”
