Reese Witherspoon Makes Peace With PETA

Somewhere in Australian Outback, thousands of snakes are hardat work on their Reese Witherspoon shrine.

Apparently, the actress that was just voted sexiest vegetarian by PETA, owned a Chloe handbag that was made out of snakeskin (as seen in the photo above). Instead of throwing red paint on her during a public event, OK Magazine says the people of PETA took a more mature approach and just wrote her a letter explaining the wrongfulness.

Reese, also being voted America’s Sweetheart by every human being on planet Earth, was happy to ditch the bag once she garnered the truth. It’s a simple mistake most people make. Sometimes synthetic leather or fur looks too much like the real thing.

PETA says thousands of snakes are hunted, impaled on hooks and skinned alive so we can store all our Blackberries, makeup and wallets in a cute accessory. Good on Reese for owning up to her mistake and ditching the bag. If she is a real vegetarian like she claims to be, she better look the part, too. Now, snakes can momentarily breathe a sigh of relief and continue doing what they do best: terrorizing the crap out of humans.

Reese Witherspoon Not Pressing Charges Against Old Lady

Reese Witherspoon is not pressing charges against the 84 year old lady who hit her.

PEOPLE reports Reese is recovering at home from her minor injuries, and wants to move on with life. Reese was struck on Wednesday by an 84 year old woman driver.

The driver, meanwhile, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

It’s dangerous out there. Reese Witherspoon was hit by an old lady driving a car near Santa Monica.

EXTRA reports the lady accidentally struck Witherspoon who was jogging in an unmarked crosswalk. The 84 year old driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Witherspoon was taken to hospital with non-serious injuries, and was later released.

This story reminds us of a certain episode of South Park.

There is a new Mr. Elle Woods in town.

According to UsMagazine.com, Reese Witherspoon and CAA Agent Jim Toth, got married Saturday evening at Witherspoon’s 6-acre ranch in Ojai, California.

The 35-year-old actress donned a custom-designed Monique Lhuillier gown to exchange her vows with the 40-year-old agent, in front of about 120 family members and friends including Alyssa Milano, Tobey Maguire and the newly single Renee Zellweger.

Best friend Heather Rosenfeld acted as the matron of honour, and both her 11-year-old daughter Ava and 7-year-old son Deacon – kids with her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe – took part in the processional which played the “Tennessee Waltz” for the bridal party and of course, “Here Comes the Bride” for the actress.

And what ring did Toth put on it? The pair exchanged wedding bands by jeweler William Goldberg, likely to match Witherspoon’s 4 carat, $250,000 diamond engagement ring from the same designer.

The wedding is Witherspoon’s second after divorcing ex-husband Phillippe in 2007 after seven years of marriage. Witherspoon also had a very public relationship and breakup with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, which ended after three years in December of 2009. She and Toth, who has never been married, began dating in January of 2010, and confirmed their engagement on December 28, 2010. Witherspoon debuted her pricey engagement ring roughly a week later at a Laker’s Game.

Says one friend of Toth, who has taken the time to bond with her kids, “He’s a very confident guy who takes care of her.”

Says me, he better!

Seeing Witherspoon and Phillippe end their marriage was saddening, and seeing her relationship with a younger Gyllenhaal come to an end after 3 years, was disheartening. Was little ol’ Elle Woods ever going to find her perfect man? Though her relationship with Toth may not be a silver-screen romance, I’m happy that Reese finally found her perfect leading man.

Robert Pattinson Likes ‘Hot Girls’ as Co-Stars

And I like my cookies with milk.

In an interview with MTV News Friday, a 24-year-old Pattinson stated the obvious, joking that the looks of his costars are of the utmost priority.

“I like hot girls,” he said. “I like being in movies with lots of hot girls.”

Pattinson, who plays the love interest for none other than long-time hot girl, Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming film, Water for Elephants, has acted alongside such silvers-screen beauties as Emilie de Ravin, Uma Thurman, and of course – real life love-interest, Kristen Stewart.

Of his former costars, Pattinson said, “They’re all very strong, actually, I always end up being in movies with very experienced and passionate people. They’re never just flimsy floozies.”

Well, I don’t know if I’d qualify any performances I’ve seen of Kristen Stewart as passionate per se, although admittedly the only thing I’ve seen her star in was the first installation of Twilight. I thought perhaps Pattinson’s and Stewart’s real-life relationship may have created a more visible passion for the highly anticipated love scene in November’s Breaking Dawn, but when asked about it though, Pattinson simply said, “It’s pretty funny.”

I may not be a Twi-hard, but I’m fairly certain that is not the answer loyal fans want to hear.

Before the “funny” Breaking Dawn scene hits though, Pattinson’s fans will get to see the actor in another love scene with Witherspoon when Water for Elephants opens in April.

“The love scene in this, I was doing it when I had a really bad cold,” Pattinson said. “My nose was running all over the place…and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig.”

With memorable gems like these, Pattinson is doing a wonderful job at living up to his teen heartthrob status. Who wouldn’t want Rob to use their hair as a substitute for Kleenex?

With as many Twi-hards as there are out there – I’m not sure even I want to know the answer to that.

‘Monsters Vs. Aliens’ Has Mighty Opening Day

3-D animated feature “Monsters vs. Aliens” conquered the competition by debuting with $16.7 million at the domestic box office Friday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the strong showing puts the DreamWorks Animation flick on track to rake in more than $50 million through Sunday.

A host of Hollywood stars lend their voices to the sci-fi adventure, including Reese Witherspoon, Kiefer Sutherland, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Hugh Laurie, Rainn Wilson and Stephen Colbert as the President.

The family-friendly pic is playing on about 7,000 screens in the U.S. and Canada, with just over 2,000 of those showing it in 3-D.

“The Haunting in Connecticut” also had a respectable debut, taking in $9.6 million to notch the No. 2 spot behind “Monsters” for Friday’s box office totals. The horror film stars Virginia Madsen and Elias Koteas and is billed as the true story of one family’s encounter with the supernatural.

The weekend’s other major release, “12 Rounds,” opened with $1.8 million to take the No. 6 spot on Friday. The cop thriller was directed by “Die Hard 2″ helmer Renny Harlin and stars professional wrestler John Cena.

Did Jake Pop The Question To Reese?

According to the National Enquirer, Jake Gyllenhaal has proposed to Reese Witherspoon. And she said no.

The couple first met on the set of “Rendition” and hid their relationship until the film started to bomb at the box office.

A source that claims Gyllenhaal proposed said that Witherspoon held back for the sake of her kids.

“She is madly in love with Jake, but her divorce just became final, and she doesn’t want to rush into anything. Reese wants to take things very slowly because of her two young children. She doesn’t want anything to upset or disrupt them. It took her a while to introduce them to Jake – she didn’t want them to know they were a couple until they were definitely serious about each other.”

Movie Review: Rendition

Rendition is a powerful film that examines the effects of fear and hatred in a post-9/11 world. Similar conceptually to Babel and Crash, it follows a group of people whose lives intersect in devastating ways after a bomb goes off in the village square of an unnamed African city.

It is immediately engaging when we witness Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwally), an Egyptian-American bio-chemist, nabbed by government agents in an airport. During a terrifyingly real ordeal, Anwar is shuttled to an undisclosed country with a heavy bag over his head, stripped, handcuffed, tortured and kept in a hole. The CIA has (weak) evidence that Anwar has been in contact with the leader of a terrorist group that is claiming responsibility for the bombing. The group’s bombs have become more advanced since Anwar’s alleged contact with them, and it is assumed he used his expertise to aid them. Metwally’s performance has a huge emotional impact, and the tension of whether or not he’ll get back to his pregnant wife (Reese Witherspoon) is intense. Metwally is a fine actor; the look on his face when he parts with agent Douglas Freeman (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a perfect mix of disgust and gratitude.

The cast is excellent, with veterans like Meryl Streep and Alan Arkin. But their roles as hard-hearted government officials are a little dry. Newcomers Moa Khouas and Zineb Oukach give standout performances, as Oukach is seduced by boyfriend Khouas into joining a terrorist group. Their tragic love story also involves a timeline twist.

The film does itself a disservice with a somewhat contrived idea of keeping the characters generic and stereotypical. For example, Jake Gyllenhaal is a conflicted CIA agent who joined the agency immediately after 9/11. We are never given a particular reason, like if he lost a loved one. He stands for all of the Americans who are still struggling to understand their moral stance in this new reality. The effect disallows much needed character development. There are so many stories and so much technical information to be conveyed that the film does feel like it’s missing something.

Other characters seem to have muted emotion. Witherspoon maintains a very calm, doe-eyed demeanour throughout most of the film. For a character whose husband has been detained by shady people who are doing God-knows-what to him, the portrayal didn’t settle right. While Streep’s cold and unsympathetic CIA executive does provide the little sarcastic comedy that can be found in the film, there is no moment of humanity to round out the character, nor does she receive any gratifying come-uppance. This may have been intentional, however. Peter Saarsgaard’s character is extremely disappointing when he makes a quick switch from being a champion for the El-Ibrahimi family to a coward. And Gyllenhaal’s lover is a completely unnecessary element to the story.

The film is realistic in the way that it ends the story somewhat unsatisfactorily. It is not wrapped up in a pretty little bundle. Just like in real life, the corruption and devastation are nowhere near resolved.

Rendition should be applauded for its intentions. It vehemently reprimands the government for its monstrous activities, and illustrates how sick it is that so much power and political immunity is given to ordinary people with titles. And in violent conflicts, no side comes out clean.

Reese Witherspoon Bans Cell Phones On Movie Set

Reese Witherspoon has reportedly banned mobile phones on the set of her new film – to stop pictures of her and co-star Jake Gyllenhaal from being taken.

The Oscar-winning actress only filed for divorce from her husband of seven years Ryan Phillippe last month and is determined not to be linked to her dashing, single co-star.

A source told Us Weekly magazine: “Reese doesn’t want any rumours about her and Jake.”

It has been claimed that New Line Cinema introduced the ban on cell phones on the set of ‘Rendition’, but the film studio has so far refused to comment on the matter.

However, Reese’s apparent ban may have come too late as news of her and Jake’s budding friendship has already been circulating after the pair were spotted enjoying a lengthy chat.

A source said: “Jake stopped by her trailer and waited for her. They laughed and talked then he left.”

Reese, 30, cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from Ryan and has asked for custody of the couple’s two children – seven-year-old Ava and three-year-old Deacon – but with visitation rights granted to her husband.

The ‘Walk The Line’ actress has also requested “exclusive use of the family residence” and asked that the court refuse Ryan spousal support.

Jake, 25, broke up with long-term girlfriend Kirsten Dunst last year and despite being linked to a number of women has been single ever since.

Ryan, 32, was alleged to be having an affair with 24-year-old Australian actress Abbie Cornish, who he met on the set of their movie ‘Stop Loss’, before he split from his wife.

However, Abbie has vehemently denied the allegations, insisting the pair are just “good friends”.

Reese Officially Files For Divorce

Poor Ryan Phillipe. First his separation is overshadowed by the bigger news of Britney and Kevin’s divorce. Now his ex-sweetie, Reese Witherspoon, has officially filed divorce papers.

Witherspoon cited “irreconcilable differences” in the papers she filed Wednesday and is seeking physical custody of the couple’s two children — Ava and Deacon.

Witherspoon is giving visitation for Phillippe and “exclusive use of the family residence.” She also pulls a Britney and asks for any spousal support to be terminated.

These poor girls, marrying down and all.

No Prenup for Witherspoon and Phillipe

It seems the general public weren’t the only ones who thought it would last forever.

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe also thought their love would be a life long affair — so much so that the now defunct couple didn’t even bother with a prenup agreement.

It’s Witherspoon who stands to lose the most in the split, reports TMZ.com. She makes about $20 million US per movie, compared to Phillipe’s $2.5 million US.

Under California law, without a prenup, earnings during a marriage are divided up 50/50.

Rumours are still flying about the cause of the break-up. The most popular say Phillipe was cheating with one of his co-stars on the set of his movie “Flags of our Fathers.”

Actors Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have put an end to their relationship after more than seven years of marriage.

Their publicists issued a joint statement on Monday confirming the split, according to Reuters.

“We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate,” the statement read. “They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time.”

They married in June 1999 after working together on the film “Cruel Intentions.” They had reportedly met at Witherspoon’s 21st birthday party before production commenced on the risque movie.

According to TMZ, a source said that the split isn’t the result of a single event, but is more “cumulative.” The website also reported that Witherspoon has been in touch with the divorce lawyer who handled splits for Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Marie Presley.

Witherspoon, 30, and the 32-year-old Phillippe have two children together: 7-year-old Ava and 3-year-old Deacon.

Witherspoon’s Golden Globes Dress Snafu

The Golden Globes must have been pretty lame this year if the biggest story of the night is the tale of Reese Witherspoon’s Chanel dress.

Witherspoon said on the red carpet that she was wearing a vintage Chanel frock, not knowing Kirsten Dunst, of Spiderman fame, had worn the same dress to the Golden Globes in 2003.

So next thing you know, some poor guy stuck on midnights at some online publication does a little research and discovers this. In no time, Witherspoon’s dress mistake is bigger news than her win for best actress in a musical or comedy for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line.

Women’s Wear Daily reported Witherspoon asked Chanel president Maureen Chiquet at an after-party why she wasn’t told the champagne gown with a metallic bust was already worn in public.

Chanel apologized for the oversight.

“We are honored that Reese chose to wear Chanel and thought she looked beautiful,” Chanel said in a statement. “We congratulate her on her well-deserved win.”

Chanel had described the dress as vintage in a press release. Gretchen Fenton, publicist for Chanel, said the gown is from the 2002 couture collection and isn’t considered vintage.

“Reese was told the dress was vintage,” Nanci Ryder, Witherspoon’s publicist, told the New York Post. “It was not. I’m not angry – just a little disappointed, but the big deal is Reese won the Golden Globe.”

Warrant Out for Reese Witherspoon’s Photographer

A warrant has been issued for a photographer who took photos of Reese Witherspoon at Disney’s California Adventure.

Todd Kevin Wallace, 44, allegedly became angry and started cursing at Witherspoon during a birthday party for her 6-year-old daughter at the Disney theme park, People.com reports.

At California Adventure, next to Disneyland, Wallace cursed at Witherspoon when her and her friends declined to be photographed. Police said Wallace closed in on the group and became aggressive, scaring some people and children who were in tears. Initial reports said he assaulted some park employees, People.com said.

The Associated Press reported Wallace served more than four years in prison after a 1993 conviction for second-degree burglary and fraud.

Photographer Charged for Physical Abuse of Children

A photographer has been charged with child endangerment and battery after pushing a child and striking another with his camera while trying to snap pictures of actress Reese Witherspoon.

Todd Wallace, 44, faces six charges after interrupting a birthday celebration for Witherspoon’s six-year-old daughter at a Disney theme park in Anaheim.

When party-goers declined to have their pictures taken, Wallace allegedly became verbally and physcially abusive.
