Scott McCreery can add another accomplishment to his list besides winning American Idol. McCreery is the youngest male in history to open at number 1 on the Top 200 chart.

McCreery told RadarOnline: “My hopes were just to go out there and have fun and let people know that the album was out there. Everybody hopes for the number one, but you never really expect it.”

Scott is also the first AI winner in eight years to land his debut album in that spot.

Congrats Scott!

James Durbin from ‘American Idol’ Gets Record Deal

American Idol Season 10 finalist James Durbin has signed a record deal with Wind-Up Records.

Gregg Wattenberg, Wind-up’s Chief Creative Officer, said “When the possibility of signing James Durbin to Wind-up Records came up, we knew it was a no-brainer. James is a rock star. We’re all excited to have him as part of the family and can’t wait to let his fans hear his debut album.”

The album is due for November.

Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’ Breaks U.K. Records

It’s kind of like Amy Winehouse is more successful dead than she was alive. Amy’s album “Back To Black” is the U.K.’s top selling album of the 21st century, reports Billboard.

Reports say her second album has sold 3.26 million copies in the U.K.

Although her album has performed well since its 2006 release, sales have surged since her death.

The exact cause of her death is still under investigation.

Katy Perry is in Michael Jackson Territory

Katy Perry is now in the history books with Michael Jackson. Perry has landed a fifth #1 hit of her platinum selling album, “Teenage Dream.” She is the only person to do this besides Michael Jackson.

“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” just climbed to #1 on the Pop Songs Billboard Charts, following “California Gurls,” featuring Snoop Dogg, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework” and “E.T.,” featuring Kanye West.

So Perry is officially a music record holder, and unquestionably pop culture royalty. Love her or hate her – you need to respect her.

‘Harry Potter’s’ Charm Breaks ‘Star Wars’ Box Office Record

Harry Potter keeps breaking records, and now it has taken the top spot of the most important box office record. Harry Potter has officially overtaken Star Wars as the top grossing franchise in domestic box office history.

Harry Potter has grossed $2.223 Billion throughout the entire franchise, compared to Star Wars’ $2.217 Billion, reports EW. These are the only two movie franchises in history to surpass $2 Billion.

However, Star Wars continues to be the most viewed movie franchise in history, which has sold twice as many tickets at the box office. Because of inflation, Harry Potter earned the top spot for ticket sales.

Adele’s ’21′ Fastest Selling Digital Album

Adele has set a new record in the United States for her release 21. The release is the fastest selling album to sell over 1 million copies.

It was released only four months ago, selling 2.5 million copies in the U.S., and 9 million globally.

Pretty amazing accomplishment, considering a couple of years ago Adele was basically unknown.

Naya Rivera from ‘Glee’ Grabs Record Deal

Columbia Records likes Naya Rivera on ‘Glee,’ so much that the 24 year old has grabbed a record deal, according to EW.com.

It’s not surprising as Rivera has demonstrated her vocal range, covering BBA to Amy Winehouse. But there’s no word yet on the musical style she’ll aim for when she enters the studio for her debut album.

Understandably, this is a dream come true for Rivera, who said in an interview, ”I would love to release my own album someday….I can die happy when that happens.”

13-Year-Old YouTube Star Greyson Chance Sets Album For August Release

Greyson Chance, the teen singer/songwriter who became a YouTube sensation with a cover of Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi,’ has announced that his debut album will be released in August.

The album, titled ‘Hold On ‘Til the Night,’ will be released on Aug. 2 through Ellen DeGeneres’ eleveneleven record label, in tandem with Maverick/Geffen.

Chance stopped by ‘Ellen’ today to announce the release date and perform his new single, ‘Unfriend You.’

“When all this first started… they started putting me in the studio and I was cutting records, and it was a mixture of being excited and being very nervous,” says Chance. “I didn’t really know who I was at this moment, so I took this record to evolve into myself and put myself in my music. And also, I was going through a heartbreak at the time, and that’s where most of the lyrics come from. This record really helped me gain courage and strength, and for the fans, I hope they gain courage and strength from it as well.”

Chance recently wrapped a co-headlining tour with fellow teen star Cody Simpson, and recently shot a music video for ‘Unfriend You’ that he says will include “an artistic piano scene” as well as a lot of silly string. Chance says that he has a few things left to tweak on the full-length, and will return to Los Angeles next month to finish it up with producers The Matrix and Ron Fair.

“I’m gonna be yelling at the producers going, ‘Noo, turn that drum up, turn that drum down!’ and they’re gonna be going, ‘No, you’re 13, shut up!’” he says with a laugh. “It’s all in good fun… we have so much fun in the studio and they really respect what I’m trying to do with my music, and I respect them as well.”

Am I the only one who finds it ridiculously funny that he’s writing about “heartbreak” at the age of 13? It seems like we have another Justin Bieber on our hands – prepare yourself, world.

‘The Hills’ Finale Is The Most Watched Show in MTV History

This just shows what a huge phenomenon “The Hills” really were to pop culture and TV. The finale of the series which aired Tuesday night was the most watched program in MTV history, attracting nearly a half a million viewers.

So let’s think about this for a second. Of all the programming MTV has produced since 1981, “The Hills” is the most watched program out of all of them. That’s pretty astonishing and quite a reflection on today’s society. It turns out what really gets youth excited is watching “mockumentary” programming of a bunch of young and rich 20 somethings run around L.A., and hear them talk about their “devastating” social problems.

So well done for MTV on delivering what their audience wants, and here’s hoping the next generation of youth are looking for something a tad more thought provoking.

‘Glee’ Comes Back To Fox With Strong Ratings

You can bet the executives at Fox are smiling today. “Glee” returned to the airwaves with amazing audience numbers.

PerezHilton .com reports that last night 13.6 Million viewers tuned into the spring premier of the show. The episode was 44% higher than the pilot preview.

So along with “American Idol” and “Glee,” Fox is looking pretty.

Robert Pattinson To Record Album

“Twilight” star Robert Pattinson is taken his dreamy status to the next level (as he already wasn’t enough of a heartthrob).

In an interview with the Sun, the actor says that 2011 maybe his breakout year for an album. Pattnson does have some experience in the area, after contributing to the song “Never Think” for the original “Twilight” soundtrack.

“I want to do one at the end of the year,” Pattinson told the Sun, referring to an album, not a Twihard. “All my friends are recording albums and I’m very annoyed about it.”

Ladies and gentlemen 2011 is not that far away, so hang tight!

Avatar Breaks the Record

Avatar has done it! Avatar hit $1.29 Billion at the international box office. The movie beat James Cameron’s other film Titanic, which was previously the highest grossing film, which was at $1.24 Billion.

The studio is estimating by the end of the weekend, the box office tally should be $1.848 Billion, making it the Earth’s biggest money maker of all time.

New Moon Numbers Break Box Office in Opening Weekend

As if the line-ups outside movie theatres didn’t give it away, the official reports are in: The Twilight Saga: New Moon topped the box office this weekend with $140. 7 million. New Moon now sits at number three in the list of highest ranking box office weekends of all time, alongside The Dark Knight ($158.4 million) and Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million).

“New Moon proves not only that the importance of teen girls at the box-office cannot be overstated, but also that going out to see a movie like this in a theater creates a communal event that can become a cultural phenomenon,” Paul Dergarabedian, president of the box-office division of Hollywood.com, told The Wall Street Journal.

New Moon posted the largest opening-day box office record with $72.7 million, beating out The Dark Knight‘s first day.

When Twilight opened in 2008, it grossed $192.8 million after about 19 weeks in theatres, but as the Thanksgiving weekend approaches, critics are speculating New Moon will beat those numbers within a few days. More than 2,000 theatres in the US re-screened Twilight for a one-day teaser for fans, and grossed a total of $1.3 million.

Roughly 80 per cent of the audience was female, and some critics, like the Guardian UK, are predicting New Moon will revisit the Titanic trend as audiences return for repeat viewings and keep the numbers high over its duration in theatres.

“To have two movies with huge appeal for women result in the second-biggest non-holiday weekend ever is amazing,” Dergarabedian told the Associated Press.

The Twilight franchise “taps into something primal and visceral that drives women crazy, and they’re willing to pay for the privilege,” Dergarabedian said.

“Obviously, with the success of Twilight itself, sequels being what they are will generate X-number of dollars more, particularly if it’s a satisfying sequel,” Richie Fay, head of distribution for Summit Entertainment, told the Associated Press.

Eclipse, the next film in the saga, will be released June 30.

Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi ‘Weren’t Dating’

After Star magazine reported Canadian funnyman Michael Cera had dumped his “girlfriend,” comedian Charlyne Yi after dating for three years, Yi set the record straight to Moviefone.

“We weren’t dating at the time … or ever,” Yi said of the time her and Cera spent together shooting the mockumentary “Paper Heart.” “I also heard that we broke up. Someone sent me an article that said I was really sad. It says that I’m sad that we’re touring together. But he’s actually in Toronto right now filming a movie called ‘Scott Pilgrim.’ So that’s interesting.”

Yi, best known for her role as a stoner in the Judd Apatow movie “Knocked Up,” makes her feature film writing debut with “Paper Heart.” The movie follows Yi (who claims not to believe in love) on her quest to understand the very thing she doesn’t understand.

Fall Out Boy Wants World Record

On Friday, Fall Out Boy will make an attempt to enter the “Guiness Book of World Records” by trying to claim the “most radio interviews by a pair within 24 hours.”

Fall Out Boy’s attempt at the record for playing a concert on all seven continents fell short due to a canceled trip to Antarctica.

Although they may not be facing weather-related challenges this time, current record holders Alastair Galpin and John Stanfield from New Zealand completed a whopping 57 interviews in a span of 24 hours, leaving the band with big shoes to fill.

At 3 a.m. PT, bassist Pete Wentz and frontman Patrick Stump will settle down at Premiere Studios in Los Angeles and begin taking questions from radio stations around the world.

“I have a big mouth, lots of teeth and am filled with hot air. Sometimes I feel like I could talk forever,” Wentz said to MTV News. “In all seriousness, we’ve been watching YouTube videos of that Micro Machines guy for speed, then a bit of Sarah Palin to study up on how to answer any specific question with whatever vague answer we want.”

‘Wanted’ Makes Box Office History

Angelina Jolie has finally lived up to her pay check and delivered a hit.

Her new action flick “Wanted” opened this past weekend to record numbers. In fact, Deadline Hollywood reports that it was the biggest opening weekend ever for an R-rated movie in June. It took in $51.1 million, surprising Universal Studios, who were only expecting $35 million.

“Wanted” was also the sixth biggest opening for an R-rated film of all time, and the third biggest R-rated action film.

This all looks very good on Jolie, who was on of the main reasons that audiences wanted to see the film, according to the studio’s polls. It was Jolie’s biggest opening ever for a live-action film.

Jolie’s last couple of films, like “Beowulf” and “A Might Heart,” have only had lukewarm receptions.

Joel Follows in Her Father’s Footsteps

Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of singer Billy Joel and model Christy Brinkley, has decided she wants to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a singer, the Toronto Star reports today.

There’s only one problem ? she doesn’t have a record deal yet.

However, the Star says she has embarked on her career with money and support from her parents, and her MySpace page, which has become very popular. She has begun touring to get the word out

Joel will hit the Hard Rock Caf? tomorrow in Toronto to perform some of her songs.
