Even though Lil Wayne’s latest album Rebirth was delayed yet again, songs continue to leak off the rap-rock disc. On Dec. 15, perhaps the most anticipated track from the LP was leaked: “Drop the World,” Weezy’s collaboration with Eminem, reports rollingstone.com. Rebirth is currently set to be released on Feb. 1.
Wayne and Eminem previously appeared in song together on the all-star hit “Forever.”
“Drop the World” is the third song in three weeks to supposedly leak off of Rebirth, an album that has had a rocky road with numerous singles and leaks drop on and off that it is unclear what state the album is currently in. Two songs that appeared on the Amazon.co.uk track list for the album, “Da Da Da” and “On Fire,” were both released as digital singles, while previous leaks like “Fix My Hat” and “Hot Revolver” have all but evaporated. The one mainstay song throughout the Rebirth ordeal is “Prom Queen,” which first appeared back on Jan. 27.
Lil’ Wayne has had a tough year. As if gun possession charges weren’t enough for the dreadlocked rap artist, his forthcoming album Rebirth has been delayed once again due to multiple setbacks.
Fans have already been subjected to a delay from its original release date, and this time it has been pushed back to a release date of February 1, 2010. According to perezihilton.com, this date is also very near to his sentencing date for his criminal charges.
Amid questions regarding the legitimacy of Lil’ Wayne’s album, Young Money’s Shanell had this to say:
Universal has announced that Lil Wayne’s long overdue rock album, Rebirth, will be released on December 15th.
The announcement comes just a few weeks after the release of his new mixtape, No Ceilings, and a week after the release of Weezer’s Raditude album, on which he makes an appearance on the song Can’t Stop Partying. He told Billboard.com that he plans to maintain the consistent rock vibe that he intended.
“I play guitar on 80 percent of the songs, and there’s a lot of rock influences and rock beats. I also have Travis Barker on the album.”
While working with two rock giants like Travis Barker and Rivers Cuomo should give Wayne the right idea, there is still no certainty about the outcome of this album. Based on the mild response generated by Prom Queen and Can’t Stop Partying, the anticipation will be filled with more curiousity than excitement.
What is this prison place, and why is it stealing all of our rap artists?
This time, the culprit is Lil’ Wayne, the beloved Grammy winner, and unfortunately, the second major rapper (the first being T.I.), in the span of a year to be faced with weapon charges. According to perezhilton.com, the rapper pleaded guilty to attempted weapon position and is expected to be sentenced to a year in jail. Wayne admitted to having a .40 caliber semi-automatic loaded gun onboard his tour bus back in 2007.
