Weezer has covered Radiohead’s iconic song ‘Paranoid Android,’ Billboard reveals.

The in-studio cover isn’t the first time Weezer has covered the band’s songs. They’ve performed other classics like ‘Creep’ before, and decided to take it one step further by recording a full-out studio version.

I love, love, love this song, so I enjoy hearing any cover of it. I think Weezer succeeded into take the song and making it their own, by switching up lyrics and instrumental here and there. Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer, definitely has the voice to pull it off. Great song, great cover.

Regina Spektor Covers Radiohead’s “No Surprises” For Haiti, Chile

Quirky pop singer Regina Spektor has covered Radiohead’s “No Surprises” off of their hit OK Computer with all proceeds going to relief efforts in Haiti and Chile, reports Stereogum.

Her haunting take on the song is definitely worth a listen, which you can do here.

Spektor blogged, “i LOVE [Radiohead], and thank them for donating their proceeds too!!! they are the best!”

The song can be bought on iTunes. All proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders, who will then distribute the money to various aid projects for the earthquake victims in Chile and Haiti. On March 23, Spektor played at New York City’s Irving Plaza for a special Doctors Without Borders benefit concert.

Former Red Hot Chili Pepper John Frusciante Voted Best Guitarist of the Past 30 Years

Yes, that’s right and it’s red hot.

Former Red Hot Chili Pepper guitarist, John Frusciante, has been voted the best guitarist of the last 30 years, reports CHARTattack. The voting was done in a BBC 6music listeners’ poll.

Frusciante left the Chili Peppers this past December.

But, since 1980, there has been no greater guitarist than Frusciante.

Frusciante beat out many great guitarists for the top spot. He beat former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, as well as Muse front man Matthew Bellamy and Tom Morello.

Overall, Frusciante picked up 13.9 per cent of the votes.

Just recently, the top guitarist of the last 30 years, contributed his talent to Man Meat, Swahili Blonde’s debut album, to be released July 6.

Frusciante is also the executive producer for Mars Volta axeman Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s The Sentimental Engine Slayer debut album, and plans to release two albums with Rodriguez-Lopez sometime this year.

Frusciante also beat out Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, and Jack White.

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Reveals Side Project Name, Along With Tour Dates

Thom Yorke, lead singer of Radiohead, has finally given a name for his new side project: “Atoms for Peace”, reports MTV News.

The super-group consists of Flea, bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joey Waronker, drummer for R.E.M., Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco of Forro in the Dark, and finally, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.

“It has been decided that we call ourselves Atoms for Peace,” Yorke said on the Radiohead web site. “Hope you like the name. It seemed bleedin’ obvious.”

In April, Atoms for Peace will begin a brief tour starting with two nights at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. The tour will come to a close on April 18, with a performance at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California.

Tickets are currently available for the Coachella Festival, while tickets for the remaining dates go on sale next week.

Atoms for Peace first assembled in October for a two night concert event at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. The intention of the all-star musician line up was to perform tracks from Yorke’s debut solo album, The Eraser, which was released in 2006.

The fans are not the only one’s who are excited about the upcoming tour of Atoms for Peace.

“We had too much fun to just leave it there,” Yorke said.

Radiohead Makes A Bundle At Small Haiti Benefit Show

If you want a true testament to the power of music, look no further than Radiohead.

On Sunday (Jan. 24), the hugely popular alternative band took a break from recording their next album to perform a show at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood and raise money for Haiti earthquake relief, reports rollingstone.com.

“This is how much money we made,” said singer-guitarist Thom Yorke as he was handed the final tally late into the two-hour concert. “Gross: Fuck me! $572,774 [U.S.]!”

Tickets for the night’s “Radiohead for Haiti” performance were sold over the weekend through an online auction, with a top price paid by one fan for a single pair hitting $4,000 (U.S.). “What did you do to get a ticket?” Yorke asked the crowd. “Get money from your dad? Or blackmail your boss?” The star-studded audience included Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Drew Barrymore, and Anna Paquin.

Radiohead’s performance was simple, with none of the visual effects and bright lights of their 2008 performance at the nearby Hollywood Bowl. The room’s smaller capacity of 1,300 allowed for the band’s subtleties to be heard, even though Yorke kept insisting they were still in recording mode for their new album and were a little out of practise onstage. “Feel free, man, to sing along,” he said. “Chances are, we’ll forget the words.”

The band performed without any attempt at saying something profound about the ongoing devastation in Haiti, allowing the emotion of their performance to speak for them. Ticket proceeds were to be directed to Oxfam International, and additional money was raised from the sale of a limited edition show poster at $25 (U.S.) each, plus spare cash was dropped into green buckets run by volunteers.

During the band’s encore, the audience kept shouting out song suggestions. “Yes, we’ll get to that,” Yorke said to the front rows. “You’re not in a hurry, are you?”

Radiohead Guitarist Discusses New Albums, The Survival of Music

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien denied frontman Thom Yorke’s prior claim that the band is finished with new albums.

In an interview with NME.com, O’Brien said the group is set to record their next album this winter under the production of Nigel Godrich.

“Typical Radiohead,” he joked, “We’re going into the studio in winter. It’s always miserable! When you’re in a studio in the countryside the music you make is definitely affected by what season it is.”

The announcement comes less than three weeks before the guitarist will appear in a debate on ‘Music’s Survival in the 21st Century’, organized by the Feature Artists Coalition (FAC).
The artist-only discussion, taking place in London, will also feature Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Marillion’s Mark Kelly and Master Shortie. Topics will include:
•The range of income streams available to featured artists today
•Discussion about direct-to-fan models such as those used by Radiohead, Marillion & Master Shortie

The debate will also include the state and goals of the FAC, whose founders include members of Blur, Pink Floyd, Travis, The Futureheads and many more.

A new Radiohead album will add to the constantly hectic workloads of O’Brien and Yorke. While the guitarist campaigns to ensure the proper compensation of musicians, Thom Yorke continues to work with his new experimental band in L.A.

But as usual, as their current work suggests, Radiohead’s music will be focused on musical passion over profit.

Thom Yorke and Flea Join Forces

Simply uttering Thom Yorke’s name in a news release is often enough to make music bloggers and listeners the world over froth a little with excitement. But this latest news from the prolific Radiohead frontman is enough to incite hysterics.

Yorke has announced a supergroup side-project with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which seems to be enough talent and spunk as is. But where there’s smoke, there’s fire, so where there’s Yorke, there’s Radiohead’s long-time producer Nigel Godrich. And heck, why not throw in Beck and R.E.M.’s drummer Joey Waronker? After all.

The project is yet unnamed, but the group took the stage this weekend in what Yorke called a “public rehearsal” at Los Angeles’ Echoplex for a blistering set of showmanship to a very lucky exclusive audience. The set was packed with the entirety of Yorke’s first solo effort, 2006′s The Eraser, flourishing under the care of his new backing band, according to Pitchfork’s Ian Cohen (lucky bastard). Yorke played four new songs solo, “Open the Floodgates”, “Lotus Flower”, “Skirting on the Surface”, and “Judge, Jury, Executioner” and then brought the band back for a few hits off Radiohead’s Com Lag EP as well as their new song, “Super Collider”.

The more drool-worthy material came when the ensemble dished out a serving of the tracks they’ve been working on. Tracks like “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses” and “The Hollow Earth” (which is featured on the New Moon soundtrack) were given a more full treatment than any early MP3s can attest to, resulting in a sound Cohen called “Yorke’s typically melismatic melodies surrounded by scrapyard percussion.” Yum.

Aux TV Launch

Aux Music television is making their official television debut on October 1st with the Canadian premiere of Radiohead: From the Basement. The debut will preview what to look forward to in Aux programming: a celebration of domestic and international talent. Aux was launched in November 2008, and is the self-proclaimed, “Face of thriving music culture.” It contains a diverse, progressive selection of musical content. Radiohead: From The Basement focuses on the work of legendary musical act Radiohead as they perform live in the intimate studio basement of music producer and sound engineer, Nigel Godrich. The special performance includes music from the band’s final breakthrough album, In Rainbows, along with several other popular songs.

At 9: 30 p.m. EST, Aux will screen a preview of the new original series, AUX live, which will feature live performances from talented Canadian artists like The Stills and K’naan.
Raja Khanna, Founder & President of AUX, said that viewers tuning into to AUX will get their fix of tested musical acts like Radiohead and Billy Talent, along with new and upcoming artists like Grand Analog, Ohbijou, and Still Life Still. “Our roster of launch weekend programming sets the tone for everything to come,” says Khanna. Aux will also feature the film Dead Man Walking on Saturday, October 3 at 9 p.m. The 1995 cult classic directed by Jim Jarmusch, features Johnny Depp and Iggy Pop in the story summarized in the Aux press release as, “An accountant who embarks on a bloody journey through a twisted version of the American Old West.”

To finish off the weekend, Aux’s TV launch will include the two hour documentary Kurt Cobain About a Son. Based on the interviews between Cobain and acclaimed music journalist Michael Azerrad, the doc also includes footage of the houses the Nirvana frontman grew up. Aux Music television will be the most innovative Canadian station ever to enter onto the national TV screen. They will air recordings of previous programming on aux.tv, but until then, if you have a serious passion for the Canadian music industry…tune in.

Thom Yorke’s New Crew

The Radiohead frontman has put together a band to tour for his 2006 solo project “The Eraser” and his newer solo tracks, Muchmusic.com reports.
Yorke’s band will include Red Hot Chilli Peppers bass guitarist Flea, former Smashing Pumpkins and Beck drummer Joey Waronker, Forro in the Dark musican Mauro Refosco, and Beck, Travis and Radiohead producer Nigel Godbrich.

On Radiohead’s website, Thom Yorke said the nameless super group will play two shows on October 4th and 5th at the Orpheum theatre in Los Angeles. “the set will not be very long cuz ..well …we haven’t got that much material yet!”, said Yorke in his post on the site. Radiohead announced in August that they will no longer making albums as a group, but they may continue to make individual songs and he will continue to pursue his solo projects. His latest solo track, “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses”, has all the rhythm and temp that Radiohead songs usually pack, along with the distinctly soft yet strong vocals of Thom Yorke. The song was even placed on Kanye West’s blog and Facebook page, even after the Radiohead frontman reportedly snuffed West at the Grammys when the rapper – an admirer of Yorke – requested to meet him.

A TMZ employee yesterday labelled Yorke the biggest rock star in the world and received little criticism to the claim. The artist was spotted coming out of an LA restaurant paying no attention to reporters and photographers. Whether or not Yorke will decide to pursue an enduring solo career remains to be seen, but what is always certain with this innovative artist is that he has, and will continue to remain, all about the music.

Catch Band of Skulls In Concert And On The New Moon Soundtrack

If you haven’t heard of “Band of Skulls,” you will very soon. These UK rockers had the first ever global iTunes “Single of the Week” back in April for their debut song “I Know What I am,” and they just keep taking the rock world by storm.

The trio were voted Best Live Band at Toronto’s NXNE festival in June and are fresh off Lollapalooza. Twi-hards may already know “Band of Skulls” has been confirmed to be included alongside Radiohead and Muse in the upcoming “New Moon” Soundtrack, out in November.

The alternative rockers will be touring across Canada throughout September in support of their debut album “Baby Darling Doll Face Honey,” currently available in Canada. Canadian tour stops include Vancouver (Sept. 3), Calgary (Sept. 4), Edmonton (Sept. 5), Ottawa (Sept. 7), Montreal (Sept. 9) and Toronto (Sept. 11).

Radiohead, Kings Of Leon Among Reading And Leeds Performers

Radiohead, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys have been tapped to headline this summer’s Reading and Leeds Festivals in the U.K.

The festivals are among the country’s largest annual music showcases and will be held in two different parts of England over the Bank Holiday weekend from Aug. 28 to 30. Most of the performers will play both events.

Among the other confirmed bands: Fall Out Boy, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, the Prodigy, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Placebo, Deftones, Funeral for a Friend, Maximo Park, White Lies and Glasvegas.

Tickets went on sale Monday; more information can be found at the festivals’ websites here and here.

Radiohead will be making their debut headline performances at the festivals, though the Oxford-based group previously played Reading in 1994. The band picked up two wins at this year’s Grammy Awards, including best alternative music album for “In Rainbows.”

Radiohead Snubs Kanye

It seems that Radiohead is annoying all of their famous fans these days. Recently, Miley Cyrus went on a radio show and unleashed her plans to “ruin” Radiohead by telling the world that the band snubbed her at the Grammy Awards.

Miley explained that she was a huge fan of the band and expected to meet them after sending her manager over to talk to them and arrange an introduction with the starlet. Sadly for Miley, she was turned down as the band told her manager that they “didn’t really do that.” Miley ended up leaving the awards early because she was upset by the incident and didn’t want to stick around to watch Radiohead perform.

Yet Miley is not the only star that has a beef with the band. Kanye West is another temperamental superstar who was also snubbed by the band. West told audiences at his VH1 Storytellers taping that he too was dissed by the band at the Grammy Awards, according to mtvnews.com.

Radiohead addressed the disputes on their blog where front man Thom Yorke wrote; “Wish us all a safe journey, if you still like us and you’re not one of those people I have managed to offend by doing nothing.”

Radiohead Ignores Miley Cyrus

It seems that Miley Cyrus can get pretty much anything she wants these days, being the emerging pop princess and proclaimed reigning Queen of Disney. Yet there is something that she hasn’t been able to get her hands on, despite begging, pleading and using all of her industry contacts; a meet and greet with the rock Gods of Radiohead.

It seems that Miley was banking on a face to face meeting with the band at the Grammy Awards, yet she failed miserably and ended up leaving the Grammy’s upset and with a shattered ego.

The 16 year old pulled as many strings as she could at the Febuary 8th Award show to get up close and personal with the Radiohead members, even sending her manager over to request a meeting by saying “Miley is really obsessed [with you],” to which they simply replied, “we don’t really do that.”

Radiohead is notorious for not following the social norms in the music business, such as giving their music away for free and inspiring other artists with their eccentric ways and creativity. Perhaps this is why Miley decided to go on the Johnjay and Rich morning radio on Tuesday and rant about how upset she is over the Radiohead snuff.

“They’re the reason I love music,” she said. “Just to say you don’t really do that — it’s not like I was going to bring my crew. I had already texted all my friends that my life will be complete [if I got to meet them].”

Miley was so upset after this incident at the Grammy Awards that she didn’t even stick around to watch Radiohead perform. “I left ’cause I was so upset. I wasn’t going to watch. Stinkin’ Radiohead!” she said. “I’m gonna ruin them, I’m going to tell everyone.”

Radiohead Joins Grammy Performers List

It was announced on Monday (January 26) that Radiohead would perform on the Grammy Awards show taking place on February 8. The band is up for five Grammys.

The performance at this year’s 51st annual Grammy Awards will mark Radiohead’s first live TV performance in the U.S. since 2000, not to mention the first time the band plays on the award show.

With Radiohead added to the list, three nominees for Album of the Year are set to perform at the award show. However, both Robert Plant and Alison Krauss who are nominated for their collaboration “Raising Sand,” and Ne-Yo have not been confirmed as performers.

Justin Timberlake and T.I. will also be performing at the awards. T.I. will be joining Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Kanye West to perform their hit “Swagga Like Us.”

Other acts for the night include Katy Perry – who lends her song “I Kissed A Girl” for this year’s My Grammy Moment – Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, the Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne, Carrie Underwood, among other performers.

Radiohead’s ‘Best Of’ DVD Offers Unreleased Videos

Radiohead’s previously announced greatest hits compilation will also be released as a DVD, featuring nine never-before-released music videos.

The ‘Best Of’ DVD, which will hit stores June 2, includes 21 music video spanning the band’s career from 1993′s “Pablo Honey” to 2003′s “Hail to the Thief.”

The disc features two different music videos for the band’s 1995 hit “High and Dry,” as well as nine videos which have never been released until now.

The audio version of Radiohead’s greatest hits, available as a CD, a deluxe CD and a 4 x 12” vinyl set, will drop the same day.

Lollapalooza Line-Up Leaked

Kanye West, Rage Against The Machine and — for the first time — Radiohead are reportedly among the huge names who will play this summer’s Lollapalooza.

Festival promoters will not announced the full line-up of more than 120 acts until Monday, but the Chicago Sun-Times says it confirmed its report through industry sources.

Other artists on the bill according to the Times include The Raconteurs, Nine Inch Nails, Bloc Party, Gnarls Barkley, Wilco, Battles, Stephen Malkmus, Girl Talk, Cat Power, The Black Keys, Mates Of State and Canadians Broken Social Scene.

The event will take place at Chicago’s Grant Park from August 1 to 3.

Last year’s edition drew the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Pearl Jam, Interpol and Daft Punk, among others.

Radiohead fans will get a blast from the past with a best-of compilation.

The band’s old label Parlophone have announced it will release “Radiohead: The Best Of” on June 2, featuring 29 tracks spanning Radiohead’s career from “Pablo Honey” to “Hail To The Thief,” plus the B-side “Talk Show Host.”

The two-disc package won’t include their most recent album “In Rainbows,” which the band initially self-released online before putting it out the traditional way through XL Records.

Radiohead Seeking Fan Videos

Attention, aspiring music video directors: Radiohead wants you to make an animated video for them.

The British band has announced a contest in which hopefuls would submit storyboards of anything from sketches to videos, for any song on their newest album “In Rainbows.”

The competition kicked off Monday, and fans have until April 27 to upload their content to the Aniboom website.

On April 28, representatives from Aniboom, Adult Swim, MySpace and Radiohead’s record label, TBD Records, will select 10 finalists, who will each receive $1,000 to produce a one-minute clip.

The one-minute clips will then be whittled down to the top five by June 30, and Radiohead themselves will pick a winner on July 7.

The winner will have the chance to make an official full-length video for the band, using the prize money of $10,000.

Nine Inch Nails Free Album Online

Ready to shell out some cash for the latest Nine Inch Nails album? Keep the money in your wallet.

The band has taken Radiohead’s lead and put 9 of their 36-track album on their website as a free download. For just $5, you can download the entire thing. For a hard copy, all you’ll need is $10 for the two-disc set.

Hardcore fans may opt for the $75 deluxe edition, however, “including a hardcover book and a data DVD and a Blu-ray disc featuring high definition recordings and a slide show,” NME.com reports. And if you have £300 to burn, you can get a copy of the deluxe edition that has been autographed by frontman Trent Reznor.

The album, entitled ‘Ghosts I-IV,’ is completely instrumental and was recorded in ten weeks last year.

Eco-friendly Radiohead Nix Glastonbury Gig

Radiohead will not play at the Glastonbury Festival in Britain this year because of what they call “the ecological disaster” of poor public transport to the event and other big shows like it.

In an article published by British newspaper The Sun, frontman Thom Yorke wrote that his band was doing “everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment.”

He expressed concerns that most people attending Glastonbury will drive to its rural south-west location in England “with one or two people in the car.”

Yorke explained: “What we’re trying to do now is only play in areas that have a public transport infrastructure in place. So that rules out Glastonbury for this year. Maybe we can work out a plan for the future.”

Yorke said he has looked into ways he can personally protect the environment, writing “I am trying to build a system under my house that heats it naturally from the ground.”

His band has also reduced the need to fly their gear around the world by getting two sets of instruments.

Yorke has been spreading his green message in other ways. He was in Belgium on Wednesday to urge leaders at the European Union’s headquarters to drastically cut carbon emissions by 2020.
