‘Quantum of Solace’ Breaks Box-Office History For Bond Franchise

“Quantum of Solace” has garnered a $70.4 million opening, beating out the series previous best opening night results (“Die Another Day”). The film stars Daniel Craig as James Bond and Olga Kurylenko as Camille. In the movie, Bond seeks revenge for the death of his love.

“Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” came in second place with $36.1 million over the weekend. The animated movie has made $118 million in two weeks and stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and Sacha Baron Cohen among other actors.

In the film, the team of animals lands in Africa where Alex the Lion (played by Ben Stiller) meets the rest of his family. The film also features the voice of the late Bernie Mac as Zuba.

Third place was awarded to Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott’s “Role Models” raking $11.7 million dollars at the box-office.

“High School Musical 3: Senior Year” came in fourth place with $5.9 million, followed by “Changeling,” starring Angelina Jolie with $4.3 million.


James Bond Producer Pays $38,000 CDN for Kiss

According to CTV.ca, the producer of the James Bond films, Barbara Broccoli is paying 19,000 pounds, the equivalent of $38,000 CDN, for a kiss from Daniel Craig.

Craig is playing the world famous spy in the upcoming Bond blockbuster, “Quantum of Solace” which will hit theatres this November.

The kiss is part of an auction prize at a charity event for the National Film and Television School.

Broccoli will also get kisses from actors Hugh Grant and Robbie Coltrane as part of her prize.

The auction raised 400,000 pounds, the equivalent of $800,000 CDN for the film school.
