The debate between whether “jif” or “gif” has become a divisive argument that has spawned hundreds of YouTube comments and message board threads. Hopefully the internet beefs will come to an end as the creator of Graphics Interchange Format,Steve Wilhite, clears the air in an interview with New York Times.
“The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations,” Mr. Wilhite said. “They are wrong. It is a soft ‘G,’ pronounced ‘jif.’ End of story.”
Did everyone get that? Cool. Now here’s a GIF of a dancing Spider-Man from before we all started expressing our emotions in pop culture tidbits.
