White Shadow Claims Life Ruined by Lady Gaga

Posted by andPOP Staff on August 15th, 2011

White Shadow produced nine tracks on Lady Gaga’s runaway success album “Born This Way.” Now he is claiming she ruined his life.

Well not exactly. In a recent interview he says that Gaga was so much fun and easy to work with that no other artist can ever compare

He said: “Yeah, she might have ruined my life on that, ’cause it’s so much fun to work with her. The world is about collaboration, and she’s 100% involved in the creative process.

“That makes it difficult for me to figure out how to work with other people that just want to get a track or a beat and have you go on your way. I don’t know if I can do that. So I don’t think I’ll make an album for, like, another girl pop singer. I might be terribly depressed if I tried.”

Well – that’s probably a good problem to have.

Glee’s Producer Starts Record Label

Posted by Christian Allaire on May 8th, 2011

Glee’s executive music producer Adam Anders is launching his own record label, reports Billboard.

The label, titled Anders Music Records, will first launch a self-titled debut album of singer/dancer/actor Shane Harper, who plays the recurring character Spencer Walsh on the Disney Channel sitcom ‘Good Luck Charlie.’

Also in the works are albums by Montana native Zac Poor and Texas singer/songwriter Ben Burgess.

“When you do a standard distribution deal, you are being boxed into one system,” Anders says. “By saying, ‘Let’s do everything in-house,’ we can make the decision as to when we need a major.”

Harper’s first single, ‘One Step Closer,’ was featured on ‘Good Luck Charlie’ in April. Radio Disney added the song to its playlist and Abercrombie & Fitch’s Hollister stores used the song and Harper’s image in promotional activities. Guess Anders took notice.

The single has now sold close to 3,000 digital tracks since its March 31 release, while the album has sold fewer than 1,000 units since its April 12 bow, according to Nielsen SoundScan.  Harper is currently touring with YouTube star Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson, which wraps May 18.

“I don’t believe in putting out a single and then if it doesn’t hit, drop the artist,” Anders says. “We are here to develop artists — there is no timetable to getting it right.”

“I’m 35 and I tend to gravitate toward younger artists,” he says. “But if the singer is 30 and the music’s great, I’ll consider it.”

The man obviously knows music and has the power to launch his own label, so why not?  I like his comment about not dropping artists due to low sales. It’s not always the artist’s fault and I think it’s unfair due to bad promotion or advertising. Hopefully he’ll bring back some integrity to the music business.

James Franco To Direct Theater

Posted by Christian Allaire on May 2nd, 2011

James Franco certainly is a man of many talents.

This time around, Franco is making his debut as a dance theater director for the upcoming multimedia show ‘Collage,’ reports CNN. First he’s an actor, then Ivy League student, then Oscars host, and now theater director? Impressive!

“‘Collage’ is a mixed-media piece that uses sound and visuals to play with the idea of how different art mediums interact,” producer John Morrow says of the show, which will run at the Stella Adler studios in NYC from May 8 -15. “Using video, dance, poetry, theater and music, we have created a performance that will be an engaging experience for the audience.”

“The piece is so exhilarating because there are no boundaries to what we can create and play with,” says actress Nina Ljeti.

Adds choreographer Chloe Kernaghan, “The overall piece has been a continuous exploration of how using disparate elements can create a cohesive idea.”

Franco will appear live at each performance to narrate the production. This also isn’t the first time Franco has produced a musical number. He recently put on ‘James Franco Presents’ at Yale University, so he has the experience.

Bravo to him. If you have the power to explore different realms, then by all means do it. He’s talented at pretty much everything he does, so I’m sure the play will be a success.

‘The Rock’ To Play Country Legend

Posted by Christian Allaire on April 30th, 2011

Well this is certainly a different role for him.

The Rock, otherwise known as Dwayne Johnson, is preparing to produce and star in biopic of black country music star Charley Pride, reports Variety.

The former wrestler will produce alongside Dany Garcia, Idol judge Randy Jackson and Pride’s manager John Daines. The film is in association with Sony ATV Music Publishing.

Pride is a Country Music Hall of Famer, has charted more than three dozen No. 1 singles, and has sold more than 70 million records.

The Rock is currently starring in Universal’s “Fast Five,” which opens this weekend, and is starring in New Line’s “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.” He hasn’t ever really done a serious, dramatic role, so this will be a first for him.

I’m a little skeptical about this. I’ve never seen him in this kind of role, so I can’t judge if he will be able to pull it off or not. This kind of role can either be a career-changer or career-ender, so let’s hope its the first. Prove us wrong, Rock.

Cher to go Country for Next Album?

Posted by Christian Allaire on March 19th, 2011

Digital Spy is reporting that Cher is going country for her next album. What?

Country music producer Mark Bright has confirmed that he will be working on a new album with Cher in the near future. Bright has worked with numerous country acts, and is known as one of the masterminds behind all three of Carrie Underwood’s studio albums.

When asked about working with Cher, he told Silk and Denim Music: “Cher knows that her listeners also listen to country music, so she felt it was a natural thing to develop a country music relationship.”

The album would be the first solo effort from Cher since 2001′s Living Proof. That’s a decade!

The star has recently appeared in the film and soundtrack for “Burlesque” alongside Christina Aguilera. Although Cher won a Golden Globe for the song ‘You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me’ from the film’s soundtrack, she failed to win an Oscar.

Cher is such an icon, and I can guarantee that her dedicated fans will follow her no matter what music path she decides to embark on, but country? Really? I guess her deep, crooner voice would fit with the genre, but I just have such an image of Cher as this electronic disco diva that I find it hard to picture her in a cowboy hat.

Props to her for trying something new, though. Unlike Avril Lavigne or the Backstreet Boys, who have been doing this forever without a change in style, at least Cher is taking a risk. And I like risk-taking. Yeehaw, Cher, Yee-haw.

‘Survivor’ Producer Phoned by Judge over Guardianship of Kids

Posted by andPOP Staff on April 13th, 2010

The kids of “Survivor” producer Bruce Beresford-Redman finally have their guardianship issues resolved. Bruce’s parents have been issued guardianship over his children until the mystery over his wife’s murder is resolved.

During the proceedings, the judge actually called Bruce in Mexico to find out who he wanted to care for his children, reports TMZ. Bruce asked for his parents to care for the children and the judge agreed.

Although Monica’s sister, Carla Burgos Van Bastelaar, asked for guardianship and was denied, the judge did authorize “reasonable visits.”

The judge also ordered that the children’s passports be surrendered to the court and that they stay in L.A. County.  The passport issue is relevant because Carla — the victim’s sister — is from Brazil.

Bruce has been released from Mexican police but is not allowed to leave the country while the investigation into his wife’s murder is active.

Jack Bauer from ’24′ Heading to NBC?

Posted by andPOP Staff on March 13th, 2010

“24″ is a extremely expensive show to produce, as you can probably tell with the weekly massive explosions, car chases, etc. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that although Fox is at its end with “24″, the show may have a glimpse of hope with NBC.

Apparently the producers of “24″, 20th Century Fox, have approached NBC about picking up the series. And although ratings are stagnant and the show costs a fortune to produce, NBC is apparently seriously considering the offer.

The Matrix Drops Album Recorded in ‘03 Featuring Katy Perry

Posted by Ilan Mester on January 29th, 2009

The Matrix, a group of producers who have worked with such high profile stars as Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and Korn, have dropped a self-titled debut album on iTunes.

Matrix member Scott Spock explained to MTV News in 2003, the group had been saving songs for themselves for years and that the then unknown-artists would soon become “very well known.”

Release dates came and gone, followed by the departing of the group’s manager. When they rejoined with their manager last year, they decided to bring up the album once more. “We said, ‘Let’s release the Matrix album, because it’s a great album,’ ” said Lauren Christy a member of the Matrx, to MTV News.

The band was given the rights to the album after Columbia Records failed to release it, so they planned on releasing it trough their own label, Let’s Hear It Records.

“We had the dates set up with iTunes … and then ‘I Kissed a Girl’ exploded,” Christy told MTV News. “I spoke to Katy about it, and she wanted to wait until the fourth single off her album was released.”

The Matrix album also features British singer Adam Longlands and includes many songs fronted by Perry.
