Wesley Snipes Faces Three Years Behind Bars

It turns out Wesley Snipe’s bad boy TV persona transfers over to the real world as well.

The actor is facing up to three years in prison as a result for avoiding taxes for five years. According to E! online, the attorneys for the star have filed an appeal against the incarceration time, claiming that the sentence is “unreasonable.” They are also arguing that the tax-evasion trial, which took place in Florida in February (finding Snipes guilty on three charges), should have taken place in New York.

Apparently, Snipes, who made an estimated $13.8 million over the past three years, owes the IRS millions of dollars. Peter Goldberger, Snipes’ attorney, said “The right to a correct venue is part and parcel to the right to a jury trial” (eonline.com). Snipe himself did not show up for the hearings, but is roaming around after paying for his $1 million bond after appealing the sentence.

It doesn’t appear as though the court system is in favor of the face behind the “Blade” trilogy. The consensus on the behalf of the U.S. attorney, Patricia Barksdale, was that he received a fair trial and sentence in accordance with his tax evasion, and it looks as though prison bars are looming in this actor’s future.

Lil’ Wayne Faces A Year In Prison

What is this prison place, and why is it stealing all of our rap artists?

This time, the culprit is Lil’ Wayne, the beloved Grammy winner, and unfortunately, the second major rapper (the first being T.I.), in the span of a year to be faced with weapon charges. According to perezhilton.com, the rapper pleaded guilty to attempted weapon position and is expected to be sentenced to a year in jail. Wayne admitted to having a .40 caliber semi-automatic loaded gun onboard his tour bus back in 2007.

This isn’t the only charge Wayne is facing either. According to Rolling Stone, Wayne is also facing a trial for felony drug possession and weapons charges in Arizona as the result of another tour bus search in 2008. In that case, Wayne’s bus was reportedly holding 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy, drug paraphernalia and a handgun. He is pleading not guilty to these charges.

Sentencing isn’t until February so he remains free on his bail until then, but it’s unclear whether the guilty plea will affect the planned December 15th release of the rappers oft-delayed Rebirth.

Michael Vick’s Return to the NFL

NFL Quarterback Michael Vick has been conditionally reinstated into the NFL following a 20 month stint in prison for a highly publicized dogfight scandal, reports Perez Hilton.

Vick, who is currently a free agent, may attend preseason practices, workouts and meetings. If he is signed by a team, he will be permitted to play in the final two preseason games.

He may participate in all team activities except for games once the regular football season begins, and may be back on the field for games as early as October.

T.I. Addresses His Upcoming Stint In Prison

Moments after a Northern Georgia District judge sentenced T.I. to one year and one day in prison on Friday (March 27), the rapper discussed his sentence at a press conference.

His sentence was in connection with felony weapons charges stemming from his October 2007 arrest on the eve of the BET Hip-Hop Awards, reports mtvnews.com.

“It brings me great pleasure and honor to say to you today that I have begun to close this chapter in my life with, of course, the help and blessings of the U.S. attorneys and the courts of the U.S. government.”

T.I. continued to the crowd of assembled media, “I would like to thank all who have helped me throughout my journeys, along my journey, including my attorneys, all of the foundations and all of the organizations who have helped me align myself with people who see to it that I seek out my wishes and intentions to the best of my ability.”

Although T.I. maintained a positive message throughout the press conference and seemed genuinely content with the outcome, he did address the sobering fact that he will be in jail for the next year and a day.

“Although I am not thrilled about my next year and a day, I am pleased that I am beginning the process of putting this all behind me. Thank you and I apologize to my family, to the young men, young women that I mentor. I hope that I can keep at least one, if not a million or more, from going down a similar path. I just want to say thank you.”

O.J. Simpson Sentenced To 15 years

O.J. Simpson, who walked away a free man after one of the so-called murder trials of the century has been sentenced to 15 years in jail, with further conditions that may extend his imprisonment by 2 ½ years.

On October 3rd, the 61-year-old former football star was found guilty of armed robbery and kidnapping by a Las Vegas jury.

The incident leading to his conviction and then his later sentence on December 5th took place in 2007 inside the four walls of a Las Vegas hotel room, where Simpson provoked a raid to recover sports memorabilia items that he claimed were his.

Simpson’s lawyer, Yale Galanter stressed that the trial unfairly cornered Simpson during its investigations and that the results were ‘overblown charges’.

According to People’s Magazine, Nevada judge Jackie Glass who delivered the sentence made it clear that she was only sentencing Simpson for the actions for which he was currently on trial and not those of his past (referring to the 1994 murders of Simpsons ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman). “The problem is that I can’t ignore that the behavior at the time…was reckless…A gun was used…property was stolen…and now I will sentence you,” she said.

While Simpson remained calm during this delivery he did not hesitate to make an attempted apology to the court for his actions, adding that he denied knowing they were illegal to begin with.

The statement was disregarded and he was then denied bail before being escorted from the courtroom in a navy prison jumpsuit.

Good News For Amy Winehouse

Singer Amy Winehouse’s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was released today, November 5, after serving 12 months of his 27-month sentence from Britain’s Edmunds Hill Prison.

Blake Fielder-Civil was sentenced for causing grievous bodily harm and obstruction of sentence. Supposedly, Fielder-Civil assaulted a pub owner and attempted to pay off a witness.

According to E! Online, Winehouse was not present at her husband’s release from prison. It is unclear if the Grammy Award Winning singer was unable to greet her husband because she was in her London home, after a previous trip to the hospital, or if she was still receiving treatment for a chest infection.

According to reports, Winehouse’s husband was taken directly to a rehab centre from the prison.

Anne Hathaway’s ex-bf sentenced to 4 1/2 years

Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, was sentenced Thursday to 4 1/2 years in prison in a Manhattan federal court.

Follieri delivered a statement through an interpreter, in which he stressed that he wasn’t raised with bad values, and started off with good intentions. He also admitted that what he did was wrong and hopes to be forgiven by those he has hurt. He will to not appeal a sentence of less than 63 months in prison.

Follieri was arrested in June and pleaded guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy in September. Initially, sentencing was planned for December, but the hearing was moved up to Oct. 3 after Follieri was unable to meet his $21 million bail.

Hathaway began dating Follieri in 2004, and the two broke up in June this year. Follieri was arrested in April of this year as well, for trying to pass a $215,000 bad cheque.

Cops Want Garrison To Face Felony Manslaughter Charges

Beverly Hills Police officials have recommended PRISON BREAK star LANE GARRISON is charged with a felony charge of gross vehicular manslaughter.

Blood tests revealed the actor had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system and was under the influence of cocaine during a fatal crash in December that left a teenage passenger dead.

Los Angeles’ District Attorney received the file on Garrison’s crash yesterday, and is reviewing the case.

Cops also recommended that Garrison be prosecuted for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

If he’s found guilty, Garrison could face 10 years in jail.

Teenager VAHAGN SETIAN was killed in the crash after Garrison lost control of his car on his way home from a party on December 2.

Two 15-year-old girls who were also passengers in the car were injured in the crash.
