With the MMVAs just five days away, Toronto is preparing for one of Canada’s biggest music block parties. As fans eagerly anticipate their favourite performers, today we’re going to take a look at Fefe Dobson.
Nominated four times for the 2011 MMVAs, 26-year-old Fefe Dobson is no stranger to the music industry. She began her career in 2003 with the pop-rock smash ‘Bye Bye Boyfriend,’ then following up with hits such as ‘Take Me Away,’ ‘Everything’ and ‘Don’t Go (Girls and Boys).’
Dobson has also dabbled in acting and modelling, appearing as Tina Turner in the NBC series ‘American Dreams’ and modelling for a Tommy Hilfiger commercial. She also opened for Justin Timberlake on his European tour.
Now, her current single ‘Can’t Breathe,’ from her latest release ‘Joy,’ is currently in the top 10 on MuchMusic’s ‘Countdown.’

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were involved in a high-speed car chase last week, reports Canoe Jam.
While Bieber was back in his hometown of Stratford, Ont., the pop star and his girlfriend, Gomez, apparently allowed his bodyguard, Kenny Hamilton, to drive recklessly through the streets of his hometown to avoid pursuing paparazzi.
The vehicle, a charcoal-coloured SUV, is said to have blown through red lights and speeded well above the legal limit.
The paparazzi were apparently tipped on Bieber’s whereabouts after fans tweeted that they say him at his grandfather’s house. A crowd then grew outside the home and three Toronto paparazzi were on site.
John White, celeb photographer, says: “Did I miss some shots because of my call not to follow? Yes, but I didn’t put anyone at risk either,” White said. “Really … putting people’s lives at risk just to avoid being photographed?”
I understand that the paparazzi can be annoying, but it’s not any better to risk the lives of everyone else around you. Then again, though, I don’t know what it’s like to be famous.
Gwen Stefani says her solo career is over, reports Entertainment Weekly.
After two successful solo albums, 2004′s ‘L.A.M.B’ and 2006′s ‘The Sweet Escape,’ Stefani says she is done being a solo singer.
“That was a moment in time,” Stefani says. “It went on a little longer than we all thought it would, because it was inspired and you have to go with wherever you’re at in that time in your life … [But] everything works out how it should.”
Stefani now claims that she is focusing all her time on a new ‘No Doubt’ album, which fans are eagerly anticipating. It’s been nearly 10 years since the band released an album, and two years since they reunited for a summer tour.
The band is responsible for such hits as ‘It’s My Life,’ ‘Hella Good,’ and ‘Hey Baby.’
With nine kids onboard between the band and a totally changed music scene, I’m sure we can expect a totally different sound from the band. I’m very, very excited for this reunion, they’ve been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember.
Beyonce has addressed her fans in regards to her album leaking in its entirety yesterday, reports Billboard.
The singer’s album, ’4,’ was leaked two weeks before it’s scheduled date of July 28. While Beyonce isn’t happy, she is thanking her fans for the positive feedback she’s been receiving.
Beyoncé took to her official Facebook today to address the leak:
“My music was leaked and while this is not how I wanted to present my new songs, I appreciate the positive response from my fans. When I record music I always think about my fans singing every note and dancing to every beat. I make music to make people happy and I appreciate that everyone has been so anxious to hear my new songs.”
The album comes out July 28 and Target stores will carry an exclusive version of the album with extra tracks.
According to my Twitter feed last night, the feedback wasn’t all positive. Many say the album is a little dull, and nothing compared to her lead single ‘Run The World (Girls).’ I don’t really support leaked albums, so I’ll wait for the official one before judging.
Could a Britney Spears and Lady Gaga collaboration be in the works?
MTV News is reporting that Spears is desperate to work with Gaga, who has previously written three songs for her. Guess the tables have turned!
“Britney is desperate to work with her again. She is very aware of that Gaga is a big threat to her in terms of her longevity in music. She’s fascinated with her and blown away by her music. So far there has been no indication that a collaboration will ever happen. Britney feels like with artists like Gaga and Katy Perry, her days in pop are coming to an end,” says the source to ShowbizSpy.
I die over this news. Unlike Britney’s collaborations with Rihanna or Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, this would actually be fire. Pure greatness. Gaga would not let her release some crappy collaboration. I think it needs to happen. Now.
Katy Perry has released a video teaser for her upcoming single ‘Last Friday Night.’
Along with a new song, Perry is also sporting a rather new look. Geek chic? Let’s just say it’s far from her fashion-forward Elle cover.
This marks Perry’s fourth single off her latest album ‘Teenage Dream.’ The video drops June 14th.
Also, thanks to a savvy YouTube commenter, I believe one can spot Rebecca Black (Friday, Friday, Gettin’ Down On Friday) at exactly 0:15 seconds. I wonder what her part will be in this!
Check it out the craziness below!
The meat dress, the 10 inch heels, the headpieces. All of Lady Gaga’s most unique outfits have earned her the honour of ‘Style Icon’ at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards last night, reports Billboard.
On stage to accept her award, a soft-spoken Gaga said to the audience at Lincoln Center: “All of you made me feel like a star before I was,” of course referring to the many fashion hard-hitters in attendance such as Marc Jacobs, Anna Wintour, and Michael Kors.
In her thank you speech, Gaga talked about the importance of fashion in her life as an artist and individual. She also shared how when she was younger, she would plan her outfits for Friday nights as though she was going to the Oscars. That doesn’t surprise me.
“As much as this award means to me personally … I just want you to know how much this means to young Americans,” Gaga also said.
Gaga got all decked out for the event, wearing a see-through corset with a long frilly train, custom designed by Mugler, the label she helped revive and constantly sports.
So how did Gaga find out the news that she won? She apparently got a text message from Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Who knew she texts?
She told the crowd she thought the message was from a friend named Anna and replied with a bleep-worthy response. The text back from Wintour said, “How lovely.”
Congrats to Gaga, if anyone deserves it, it’s her!
Lady Gaga is no stranger to controversy and strong opinions, and apparently that was no different as a child. The singer recently revealed to Rolling Stone magazine that she was teased when she was younger, reports Canoe Jam.
The singer and fashion enthusiast shared the bullying she endured at a convent school in New York, revealing her peers would call her “a slut” and poke fun at her fake tan, hair, makeup choices, and even the way she laughs.
Guess her peers weren’t into the whole catholic moral thing, it being the ‘Catholic school Convent of the Scared Heart’ and all. Gaga shares that her peers were malicious in her youth, and that somedays she didn’t want to go to school at all.
Gaga says: “(They’d say) ‘Your laugh is funny, you’re weird, why do you always sing, why are you so into theatre, why do you do your make-up like that, what’s with your eyebrows?’
“I used to do these really big Evita brows. I used to self-tan, and I had this really intense tan in school, and people would say, ‘Why the f**k are you so orange, why do you do your hair that way, are you a dyke (lesbian)…?’
Gaga is also now amused by the fact that many of the bullies have now gone on quote to say she was ‘popular’ as a child. She seems to think they are doing it to redeem themselves.
“All of those people were bullies.”
Well, in Gaga’s defence, who’s laughing now?
Britney Spears is being sued for $10 million over a fragrance, reports CTV.
Spears and her father, Jamie, are reportedly being sued by licensing firm Brand Sense Partners.
The firm is alleging that the two have breached their contract, and claim that the company has stopped receiving their 35 per cent commission from Britney’s fragrance line.
The company is asking for the singer to appear for a deposition in relation to the suit.
Britney’s lawyers state the singer cannot appear in a deposition, though, because her father Jamie has conservatorship over her and controls her affairs.
The company still wants Spears to appear in court, though, stating: “Ms. Spears is competent to testify, and she is the key witness in this case. She has direct knowledge of the operative agreement at the heart of this dispute and has signed each of them.”
The court hearing is set for July 11, where it will be decided if Spears must participate in the court battle. Spears has released multiple fragrances, including ‘Beauty,’ ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Curious.’
Let’s hope they resolve this quickly. Spears is just getting back on track, and the last thing she needs is a very public legal battle!
Antonella Barba has had the most interesting post ‘American Idol’ career I’ve ever heard of.
Ever since making it to the Top 24 in ‘Idol’s’ sixth season, where she made it as the 16th contestant, Barba has done everything from going back to school to dabbling in politics and rapping.
“When I did ‘American Idol,’ I took a semester off my junior year. All I had left was my senior year and I was so close to being done… so [after 'Idol'] I just crammed that semester into summer classes and I ended up still being able to graduate with all of my class,” says Barba during a phone interview.
After graduating, the New Jersey native then began working in politics. Yes, politics. My respect level for her rises again.
While she did continue to perform and work on music after her ‘Idol’ days, Barba spent about a year encouraging youth to vote in the 2008 elections.
Pink has given birth to a baby girl, reports Billboard.
The pop singer had the baby with her husband, motocrosser Carey Hart.
Confirming it on Thursday via Twitter, as all celebs do, Pink shared that she’s given birth to a “happy baby girl.” This is the first child for the couple, who were married in 2006.
“We are ecstatic to welcome our new beautiful healthy happy baby girl, Willow Sage Hart. She’s gorgeous, just like her daddy. #beyondblessed,” Pink tweeted.
Unlike many celebrity baby names, I really like the name Willow. It’s different, but not obscene or obnoxious (I’m talking to you, Apple or Suri.)
Pink confirmed her pregnant last November on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ sharing:
“My mom has always wished me a daughter just like me,” said Pink. “I’m terrified. One of us will go to jail.”
Congrats to the couple, I think Pink is going to be such a cool mom. Can she adopt me?
It seems as though electro-pop queen Cascada has ripped off a Katy Perry song, as noted by Perez Hilton.
Her new song, ‘San Francisco,’ seems awfully familiar to Perry’s ‘California Gurls.’ From the beat, to the location-based lyrics, the song is a clear rip-off. I even hear some of Ke$ha’s ‘Tik Tok’ in there. I mean, really.
Cascada has been around long before Katy Perry or Ke$ha, so why is she ripping off their songs? Surely, she can make hits on her own. I know she’s capable.
Listen to the song below, and compare with Katy Perry’s song. I think you’ll agree.
Moby has revealed that he does not consider songs by Britney Spears and Ke$ha to be music.
The singer-songwriter says he enjoys the popstars’ fun dance tunes, but believes that they should not be labelled “music.”
“It’s fun, but I don’t think of it as music,” Moby said. “It’s manufactured. I appreciate it as a pop culture phenomenon and some of the songs I like if I hear them in a shopping mall or something, but it doesn’t function as music for me.”
The 45-year-old went on to describe what he considers to be true music.
“Music is something that communicates emotion and integrity in a really interesting, direct way,” Moby said. “And when I listen to the pop music you’re describing, it’s hyper-produced corporate product. That isn’t really even a criticism, but I just think calling it music is a misnomer.”
That’s pretty harsh coming from someone who collaborated with Spears on her 2003 album ’In The Zone.’ He also recently described her as “broken,” claiming that the singer’s damaged nature is part of her appeal. Tell me how you really feel.
Sure, Britney and Ke$ha are no Aretha Franklin, but their music is music – pop music. It’s fun, it’s danceworthy, and it’s not meant to be taken too seriously. I think he’s taking it too seriously.
Lady Gaga has released her third single, titled ‘Hair,’ off her upcoming album ‘Born This Way,’ which is released May 23.
Unlike ‘Judas,’ this single is a little more uplifting, but still maintains that electro-pop-rock sound. It also features a lot of saxophone, something Gaga has really been experimenting with and using in her music.
As predicted, I love it – what do you guys think?
They used to say James Brown was the “Hardest Working Main in Show Business.” Well James Brown is dead, and Tiesto now deserves the title. Tiesto is constantly on tour, and has collaborated with some of music greatest artists, like Nelly Furtado and Emily Haines. We had the rare opportunity to catch up with Tiesto while in Toronto. It was a quick interview, but nevertheless Tiesto was quite charming.
Beyoncé has revealed the name of her upcoming album: “4.”
In an exclusive interview with Billboard, the music star says that the album’s title was inspired by her fans.
“Everywhere I look, I see them calling it ’4,’” she explains. “I had a whole other name and concept, but I keep seeing that the fans love the name ’4,’ and I think it would be a really nice thing to let them name the record.”
The number four also holds personal significance for Beyoncé, and not just because her latest studio album will be her fourth as a solo artist. “We all have special numbers in our lives, and 4 is that for me,” she says. “It’s the day I was born. My mother’s birthday, and a lot of my friends’ birthdays, are on the fourth; April 4 is my wedding date.”
Beyoncé, who will also be honored with the Billboard Millennium Award at the Billboard Music Awards on May 22, says that her early inspiration for the album came from Afrobeat music pioneer Fela Kuti.
“I recorded more than 60 songs: everything I ever wanted to try, I just did it. I started off being inspired by Fela Kuti. I actually worked with the band from “Fela!” [the hit Broadway musical based on his life] for a couple of days…what I learned most from Fela was artistic freedom: he just felt the spirit.”
Beyonce’s albums always bring-it to the table, so I’m excited for it. Her songs just have a universal appeal that gets everyone moving, so I have a feeling it will also be a huge success. The album is slated for a June release.
Britney Spears is no stranger to having her personal life broadcast to the public. But this time, it will be done using superheroes, powers, and action sequences.
The pop music star is the subject of a new one-shot comic book, reports Billboard. The comic is done by Bluewater Productions Inc.’s ongoing “Fame” series, which has profiled other celebrities including Lady Gaga, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, among others.
The Spears comic will focus on her rise to stardom, her documented private life and her efforts to be understood, said Patrick McCray, who wrote the issue.
“She is far more complicated than most people realize. No matter what preconceptions you have about her, there will always be more layers and surprises,” he said. “Beyond the performer, there is a real human being there, struggling for a real life, struggling to connect with her art, and struggling to be understood.”
“She was created in the Internet Age to be put on a pedestal, but no one can stand the glaring lights of celebrity that intensely,” Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis said. “The title seeks to find the person within.”
The 32-page issue, illustrated by Ricardo Jaime, comes out Wednesday in comic book stores and online retailers.
An interesting concept – as a super-fan, I’m really tempted to buy this. I don’t know how Britney feels about her personal life being, once again, under scrutiny, but if it’s done in a cool way I’m sure she won’t mind.
Lady Gaga has just released ‘The Edge of Glory,’ the third single off her upcoming album ‘Born This Way.’
Take a listen below and let us know what you think. It’s a different sound for her! More electro/rock, more ballad, more voice-intensive.
This is definitely going to be a smash.
As we all know, HBO debuted the concert event “Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden” this weekend, delivering 2 hours of musical and visual brilliance from Gaga’s ‘Monster Ball’ tour.
Sure, everyone is buzzing about the documentary. But one of the most talked-about moments of the special was Gaga’s soulful backstage A Cappella rendition of “Born This Way,” which kept everyone screaming for more during the closing credits.
Take a listen below. If you have, at any moment, ever doubted Gaga’s singing capabilities, you can take that back right about now. Such power, such soul!

Lady Gaga has released the music video for ‘Judas,’ the second single off her upcoming album ‘Born This Way.’
“I want to allow the video to speak for itself but I will say that the theme of the video and the way that I wanted to aesthetically portray the story was as a motorcycle Fellini movie where the apostles are revolutionaries in a modern-day Jerusalem,” Gaga explained to MSNBC. “And I play Mary Magdalene leading them into the town where we meet Jesus and I will leave the rest for you to see. But it’s meant more to celebrate faith than it is to challenge it.”
Check it out below!
