Move aside presidents, becase vegetarians are taking over as the new face of American postage stamps.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have taken the faces of 20 of the most famous vegetarians in history and put them on a series of postage stamps, to be released tomorrow. The stamps are an example of PETA’s effort to put a stop to animal abuse.

“It’s just another way to be able to talk about what animals go through in slaughterhouses,” said Lisa Lange, vice president of PETA.

The stamps will be available on Peta’s website through December and possibly into January, just in time for us to send out those holiday cards.

The collection will include the faces of celebrities such as Russell Simmons, Woody Harrelson, Natalie Portman, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Bryan Adams, Leona Lewis, Paul McCartney, Pamela Anderson, Bob Barker, Stevo-O, and Ellen DeGeneres.

The set of 20 will be completed with the famous faces of Morrissey, César Chávez, Leonardo da Vinci, Leo Tolstoy, Albert Schweitzer, Gandhi, Pythagoras and Johnny Appleseed.

“These are very influential people, and not everyone knows that these folks are vegetarian,” said Lange.

While it’s a little risky to put such a controversial organization in charge of a set of postage stamps that will be released to the public, I think it could actually be a good idea. It will definitely attract the attention of collectors, but it will also help PETA achieve its hopes it to in publicizing issues at hand regarding animal cruelty.

Somewhere in Australian Outback, thousands of snakes are hardat work on their Reese Witherspoon shrine.

Apparently, the actress that was just voted sexiest vegetarian by PETA, owned a Chloe handbag that was made out of snakeskin (as seen in the photo above). Instead of throwing red paint on her during a public event, OK Magazine says the people of PETA took a more mature approach and just wrote her a letter explaining the wrongfulness.

Reese, also being voted America’s Sweetheart by every human being on planet Earth, was happy to ditch the bag once she garnered the truth. It’s a simple mistake most people make. Sometimes synthetic leather or fur looks too much like the real thing.

PETA says thousands of snakes are hunted, impaled on hooks and skinned alive so we can store all our Blackberries, makeup and wallets in a cute accessory. Good on Reese for owning up to her mistake and ditching the bag. If she is a real vegetarian like she claims to be, she better look the part, too. Now, snakes can momentarily breathe a sigh of relief and continue doing what they do best: terrorizing the crap out of humans.

In a desperate attempt to try and lure chronic masturbators to veganism, PETA is going to start-up “peta.xxx”. The lovely people, who spray-paint old ladies for a living, believe it will help spread their message. According to an interview with The Associated Press, PETA spokesperson Lindsay Rajt thinks “a pornographic site will allow PETA to reach a broader audience”. I think it’s a perfect way to get cyber-pervs to stop eating meat, and instead, spend more time with their sex doll that looks like Alicia Silverstone. Most reports are saying the site will feature “tantalizing” photos and videos. It seems this is an extension of the “I’d rather be naked” campaign where celebrities take nearly nude photos to try and convince more people to eat salad. I’m not sure how “tantalizing” vegetarian porn stars can be but I do have some serious logistical concerns about the whole not eating meat thing. My only concern is some lunatic is going to hold a bunch of baby seals hostage until he sees Ke$ha’s beaver.

Madonna may have been last year’s top music moneymaker, but don’t count PETA as one of her fans.

The animal rights group placed the pop star at the top of their 2009 worst-dressed celebrities list, branding her the year’s “biggest fur offender.”

“When you see Madonna in fur, you realise why nobody has copied her style since 1984,” read a statement on PETA’s website. “We know that she’s on the prowl for a young cub, but someone needs to tell Madge that wearing fur doesn’t make you a cougar.”

Other celebrities who received dishonorable mentions were Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kanye West.

In contrast, PETA awarded their Person of the Year title last year to Leona Lewis. The British singer has spoken publicly about her vegetarianism and reportedly turned down a seven-figure offer to open department store Harrods’ summer sale because the company sells fur.

Pamela Anderson has declared Jessica Simpson a “bitch and whore.”

Anderson made her bold statements on an Australian radio station. Her anger comes after Simpson wore a shirt that read, “Real girls eat meat,” something that Anderson – a huge PETA supporter and vegetarian – couldn’t stand for.

Simpson’s shirt wasn’t intended to spark a feud with Anderson, but perhaps Carrie Underwood instead. Underwood used to date Simpson’s boyfriend, Tony Romo, and has frequently been on – and topped – PETA’s “Sexiest Vegetarian” lists.

Anderson, for her part, went on to tell the radio station why she was proud to be a vegetarian: “I think it’s healthy, good for your body and good for the environment.”

Pink is angering Australian officials with a new video she’s produced for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Pink is urging shoppers to boycott the country’s wool over the practice of “mulesing,” reports the BBC.

“I am calling on consumers to check labels on sweaters before buying them, and if they’re merino wool or made in Australia, to leave them on the racks,” the singer says.

Mulesing involves cutting strips of skin off the area around a sheep’s tail without the use of anaesthetic.

The process is meant to prevent myiasis, or “fly-strike,” in which fly larvae infest and feed on the skin. Though proponents of mulesing say it helps prevent death caused by the infestation, animal rights activists say it is cruel.

PETA says that humane alternatives to the process are available. Mulesing is illegal in the UK, and is expected to be phased out in Australia by 2010.
