The new ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,’ which stars Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, opened big abroad this weekend.
The pirate-action flick will open in 4,155 North American theaters on Friday, already having debuted in 70 countries. Right now, the flick is scoring huge in the first 10 countries it opened in, posting $18.5M. This tops the $12.3M that ‘Pirates 3′ made.
So far, ‘Pirates 4′ has the biggest opening day ever in Russia with an industry record-breaker of RBL130M/$5M, beating the previous high set by ‘Twilight’ (RBL122M). France took in €2.1M/$3.1M, while very strong starts occurred in the UK, Italy, and Sweden.
Disney is looking for a big global first weekend, with 65% of the foreign markets opening before the U.S and Canada opens Friday. In total, ‘Pirates 4′ is debuting in more than 70 countries for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
People are crazy about ‘Pirates,’ and more specifically, about Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. I personally stopped watching after the second one, but this one sounds like it may be worth checking out. It’ll definitely perform well here, it’s a huge action blockbuster.
As previously reported, Woody Allen’s European film adventure will take its next stop in Italy. Penelope Cruz signed onto the project last week, and now the full cast of the film has been revealed.
Perezhilton.com reports that Alec Baldwin, Jesse Eisenberg, and Ellen Page have jumped aboard the Allen train. The film will take place in Rome but all other plot details are being kept very secret.
From the looks of it we can expect a comedy. Most likely Baldwin and Cruz will have some sort of romance and the same goes with Page and Eisenberg. Page and Eisenberg have that natural eccentric chemistry due to their indie credibility.
Hopefully more details will be revealed soon perhaps a menage a trois is in the works a la Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

The new project is set to be filmed in Rome,. The latest Woody Allen films are like a tour of Europe. He’s hit Barcelona, London, Paris, and now Rome. Unfortunately, all details of the project are being kept hush, hush. Surely we can expect an ensemble cast, some sort of love story, and a wealth of sexual innuendos…. the classic Woody Allen structure. His new film, Midnight in Paris will open in select cities on May 20.
In celebration of Eva Longoria’s 36th birthday on Tuesday, the recently-divorced actress went all out, throwing a 1920’s Flapper-themed birthday bash! Among attendees were Penelope Cruz and hubby Javier Bardem, Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum, and Kanye West. Definitely sounds like a party!

Cruz showed signs of pregnancy when she was dawning a baby bump on the set of her new film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The actor and actress married quietly this past July but have known each other since 1992 where they met on set of Jamon. The duo began dating on the set of Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
The birth of their son directly coincides with the Oscar Nominations. Bardem is nominated for Best Male Lead for his staggering role in the Spanish language film, Biutiful, which is also nominated for Best Foreign Feature. Clearly the couple has a lot to celebrate this month. Congratulations!
NY Daily News is reporting Penelope Cruz is engaged to Oscar-winner Javier Bardem of No Country for Old Men. The pair has not publicly admitted they are dating, but pregnancy rumours have been circulating.
“They’re telling friends they will get married,” said a source close to the couple.
Publicists for the two actors, who met on the set of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, have not commented.
Kate Hudson has joined the Weinstein’s film adaptation of the musical “Nine,” reports Cinematical.com.
Hudson rounds out and incredible all-star cast, including last year’s Oscar darlings Daniel Day-Lewis and Marion Cotillard, as well as Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Penélope Cruz and Nicole Kidman.

Now that she’s engaged to Canadian hunk Ryan Gosling, Scarlett Johansson may be becoming too big for her britches.
Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper reports that Johansson was absent from the premier of her new Woody Allen film at Cannes because the studio refused to meet her ridiculous demands.
She insisted that her $7,800-a-day make-up artist be paid to accompany her. She also refused to stay at the same hotel where Allen and co-star Penelope Cruz were staying, instead saying she required a hotel 30 miles outside of Cannes.
An executive close to the film said that “it wasn’t acceptable that Scarlett would be having to come in from that distance every day, most likely turning up late and it would have thrown schedules into a lot of confusion.”
Allen, normally quite enamoured with Johansson, is said to be annoyed that she’s not being a team player.
Johansson’s rep blamed conflicting schedules for Johansson’s absence.
The film, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” which features a kiss between Johansson and Cruz, received a ten-minute standing ovation at the festival.
Penelope Cruz isn’t upset that the rumours continue about her sexuality, partly because she continues to push them.
MSNBC reports the actress, who has been plagued with reports that she is actually a lesbian, has continued the rumours that there is something going on between her and her good friend Salma Hayek.
The two women have been close friends for nearly seven years, and the rumours that the two were more than friends grew at a recent press conference.
“I grabbed Salma’s ass just to keep things moving, because everyone was a little slow. And, of course, the energy changed when I did that,” Cruz said.
The rumours of the affair are even bigger in Hayek’s home country of Mexico.
“There are magazine covers in Mexico describing us as these lesbians because of that. A lot of people were saying we were lovers,” Hayek said.

People magazine is reporting that Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz have decided to call it quits.
The two “have decided to take time off as a couple. Due to busy work schedules and so much time apart, they mutually decided four weeks ago that separating was the best thing to do at this time,” a statement from the couple said on People’s website.
Sources tell People that the reason for the split is due to the amount of time the couple spends apart. Currently Cruz is in Spain shooting a movie, while McConaughey is shooting one in the U.S.
The two met on the set of the movie “Sahara” and have been dating for just over a year.
