Now that PLL is taking a break, I HAD to find a temporary replacement just to ease the pain. As I scrolled hopelessly through my TV guide in search of a new show, I landed on Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23. I thought to myself what the hell let’s try it!
Chloe is a New York party girl with “the morals of a pirate” who tries to bully her naive small town roommate June out of their shared apartment. James Van Der Beek is Chloe’s best friend who tries to keeps the peace between the two girls.
Now that you’ve got the gist of the show, here are five things I learned and five reasons why you should watch:
1) It’s already been targeted by the Parents’ Television Council for its racy humour. PTC asked sponsors of the show to stop running their ads calling it a “new all-time low for broadcast television.” You know if PTC doesn’t like it then it must be good! Usually sexual humor on sitcoms turn out lame but this show is pretty X-rated. Chloe has sex with her roommates fiance on top of her — wait for it — birthday cake. Shudder.
2) Van Der Beek *Insert girly scream here* plays a fictional version of himself. In the first episode alone he makes at least six Dawson’s Creek jokes, including mocking the show’s theme song. Win. Read more…
Miley Cyrus hasn’t won any friends with parents as her newest music video is causing quite a stir. The video for “Who Owns My Heart” has angered the Parents Television Council, saying its too sexual.
“It is unfortunate that she would participate in such a sexualized video like this one,” Tim Winter, the president of PTC, told TMZ.
“It sends messages to her fan base that are diametrically opposed to everything she has done up to this point. Miley built her fame and fortune entirely on the backs of young girls, and it saddens us that she seems so eager to distance herself from that fan base so rapidly,” Winter added.
Either way, this controversy is just creating more buzz around Miley and the video. What do you think? Is this video inappropriate for a seventeen year old girl or just a sign of the times?
Do you think she’ll be grounded? Tyra Banks is in big trouble with the Parents Television Council.
The controversy comes after an episode of Banks’ reality contest show, “America’s Next Top Model.” During the episode, one contestant’s assignment was to recreate Marilyn Monroe’s naked photoshoot in a bed. All private parts were blurred or obscured for the show.
But that’s not enough for the Council. Its president, Tim Winter, told TV Guide the photoshoot “crossed the legal threshold for broadcast indecency.”
“This is not simply a matter of artistic freedom, as some might claim. Rather, this is about a television network intentionally pushing the envelope to establish a new acceptable nudity standard for the broadcast medium.”
Winter also believes that the length of the photoshoot scene – more than a minute – proves that it was “wholly gratuitous and undoubtedly intended to titillate,” he said.
