While the kids at McKinley figure out how to live without power, Santana tries to figure out what exactly her dream is.
Here’s what you missed on last night’s episode, “Baby Steps”:
Unplugged
McKinley was having some technical troubles – a stray balloon in an outlet, to be exact – which caused a school wide power outage and left the New Directioners in the dark. Mr. Schue originally wanted to take a “go big or go home” approach, but was left with no choice but go unplugged. The lesson, however, didn’t apply only to their music; it was an opportunity for the kids to put down their phones and really experience everything around them.
At the Ballet
Sarah Jessica Parker, a.k.a. Isabelle Klempt, is back and gave Kurt the opportunity of a lifetime when she invited him to The NYC Ballet gala (the performing arts event of the season, in case you didn’t know). Santana and Rachel tagged along and we got to experience what the ballet meant to every one of them. Though the performance was a little bizarre, it was interesting to see that each one of them got their start in the same place.
Barbarella or Ballerina?
To celebrate Grand Central Terminal’s 100th birthday, ImprovEverywhere surprised commuters with a celebration of lights that night. Equipped with a variety of LED flashlights and camera flashes, performers appeared unannounced along three floors of windows, creating a shower of light for the commuters and tourists.
Previously, the group hosted a no pants subway ride in NYC.

I totally understand looong, boring commutes because it takes me longer than an hour to get to work everyday — by car, then subway, then bus (BOO). If this beatboxing, comedian was on board, maybe it wouldn’t feel so damn long. The talented New Yorker impressed subway riders with his realistic impressions of everyone from conductors to Darth Vader. He claims he used to be a subway announcer but was fired because of his crazy antics. The subway riders looked like they were trying to avoid him at first but by the end, they broke into fits of giggles.
Those crafty, musical ruffians down at the experimental NYC group collectivecadenza decided to mess around with Google Translate and see what would happen when they put an iconic song through the ringer. They chose Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s theme song, translated it from English to Mandarin, and back to English again.
The results were funny but not explosive — the grammar was slightly different but the message behind Will Smith’s musical monologue was largely unchanged. But then things got a little cray when they decided to put the theme song through all 60 languages on Google Translate to see what would happen. The results were hilarious and the lyrics to the song were unrecognizable. Can you imagine if this was the ACTUAL song?

You can barely hear them sing over the loud screams of fangirls, but One Direction teamed up with Ed Sheeran to perform the very song he wrote for them, “Little Things.” It all went down last night at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Sheeran surprised fans midway through 1D’s performance by coming on stage, sitting with the guys and sharing a solo with Harry Styles.
The best part of the video is the reaction from surprised fans. Their screams quickly turns demonic as they start confirming the facts with each other: “That’s him! THAT’S HIM! OMG. NOOOO WAY!!!”
They were probably thinking:

And their excitement came out like this:

That’s how we’re feeling right about now too. What do you think of the performance?

Lesson one: Don’t give a kid a tattoo
A North Carolina mom was arrested after she gave her 11-year-old daughter a heart shaped tattoo. The mom, 30, is a tattoo artist herself and saw nothing wrong with the idea of tatting-up her daughter. You know, besides the point that it’s illegal and all. Her defense? Her daughter said she wanted it. I guess that means it’s okay. Lol
Lesson two: Don’t lick poles
Remember when your parents said not to lick a frozen pole in winter because your tongue might get stuck? Well this warning also extends to any public poles in any season. This guy clearly wasn’t listening when his parents gave him that bit of knowledge, as he licked an entire handrail at a NYC subway station. All those germs weren’t even worth his friends giving him one dollar for doing it. That one dollar won’t even pay for his inevitable hospital bill! Not Smart.
Lesson three: Don’t disturb endangered spiders
This construction site in San Antonio, Texas has been interrupted, by none other than a tiny spider. The spider, which is the size of a dime, was thought to be extinct! Since it’s a federally protected endangered species, construction has come to a complete halt. I can’t help thinking if only my brother was working that site that fine day. He would’ve spotted that poor spider and killed it instantly. But not before screaming like a little girl, of course.

Collective Cadenza took us on a musical tour of New York City today with their newest video experiment. The group performed songs from our favourite artists based on whatever street sign they were standing in front of. And damn, NYC streets sure as hell make a good soundtrack.
Music seems like a great way to pay tribute to NYC, especially considering they shot it on Sept. 11. They guys played Katy on “Perry,” Kanye on “West,” Santigold on “Gold,” and Jay-Z on “Jay” (obvs). On top of that, they played some of our older faves, including Pearl Jam, The Police and The Beach Boys.
This is the same group that brought us The Human Jukebox and The History of Wooing Women. Check out their video below and the playlist after the jump.

Here’s the war wound courageously sustained by Chris Brown, however, it’s not a wound of war at all since it was all over a petty bar fight with Drake’s entourage. So actually, it’s just a nasty gash of the drunken brawl variety.
According to TMZ, Brown clashed with Drake’s crew in a NYC nightclub last night. Five people were apparently injured and NYPD arrived on the scene between 4 and 5 am, though by that time Chris and Drake had already left. No arrests were made.
After the fight, Brown tweeted and promptly deleted a photo of his injury with the message: ”How u party wit rich n**** that hate? Lol… Throwing bottles like girls? #shameonya!.”
Naturally, everyone’s all like “OMG this was soo over Rihanna wasn’t it?” since she’s Chris’s ex-girlfriend and is rumoured to have had a fling with Drake.
TMZ also got footage of Drake before the incident leaving his hotel, which wouldn’t be interesting except for those brawny looking dudes around him. Yikes! [Source]

In most circles, it’s considered unprofessional to rag on people you’ve worked with in the past (especially on national television) but The Wanted brushed off their whole confidentiality agreement to tell a story about working with Britney Spears. In an interview with NYC’s Fresh 102.7 the guys said they were told by bouncers to face the wall as Britney Spears walked down the hallway.
This comes right after their comments about Christina Aguilera being a b*tch proving that a) the guys really don’t care about upsetting their fellow artist’s fans and b) every interview with them is going to be juicy. No one is safe. However, in this case it sounds like they weren’t commenting on Britney, it was more a reflection on her bodyguard.
Tom seemed to be the instigator this time, spurring Siva to tell the story: “We signed a confidentiality thing that we should never say anything about what happened but tell it anyway.”
Jay brought the comments back a dial, insisting that when they met Britney personally she was very kind: ”honestly when we actually met her person to person, she was so down to earth,” he said. “You can tell she’s a total southern girl and Nathan, when he was a kid, won a singing competition. She was one of the judges or something. And she gave him a kiss, it was one of his first kisses as a kid. So he got to meet her again and support her.”
The finishing touch in the interview was when the guys talked about Justin Bieber kicking Siva in the “left testicle.” Sadly, they go into far few details to indicate how and why it happened.

The Wanted learned a hard lesson after calling “The Voice” judge Christina Aguilera “a bitch” during a radio interview in NYC. Two days later, Tom Parker sort of apologized, although he swiftly took another jab at her.
After appearing on The Voice the band went on 92.3 NOW and said: ”She’s a total bitch. She might not be a bitch in real life, but to us she was a bitch.” The band was hit pretty hard by Xtina fans after the rant.
When TMZ asked Parker about the comments outside Hollywood’s Mondrian Hotel, he said: We shouldn’t have said it, to be honest with you. We just think manners cost nothing, you know what I mean? The rest of the judges were really nice, and she didn’t even walk over to us and talk to us. We apologize for the comment.”
Their comments come just a couple weeks after the glacial look she gave Justin Bieber while he was performing.

Do you think the original comments went too far?
In NYC, there’s a certain hero called “‘The Snackman” who roams the underground 6 train. When there’s a confrontation, he casually slips between the fighters and munches on chips. His secret is remaining apathetic to the situation while sneakily being a mediator.
The person filming this video was sitting beside a woman who suddenly stood up and starting wailing at a man. In complete disbelief, they whipped out their camera and started filming the fight. Luckily, a silent guardian was there to step in between the high kicks.

Hey girl! Ryan Gosling is our hero for courageously saving a woman’s life in NYC after a speeding taxi ripped down the street and nearly flattened her telling a woman to watch out when a cab drove by.
The whole incident has been re-created by NMA TV so we can better envision what happened. It also provides tidbits that I didn’t know about the actor: he has the heart of an angel AND in his spare time he rescues baby animals from hunters. D’aw.
Mac Miller took over NYC last night, selling out the Irving Plaza. He spoke to MTV about the transition into the big time.
“The transition is crazy, like seeing how things build,” Mac told MTV News just hours before taking the stage on Thursday. “In New York, in S.O.B.’s, I was freaking out about that, man. I was like, ‘Man, there all these people here for me.’ “So to come and sell out Irving Plaza real quick is great, man. That’s why I do what I do — to keep on growing and building.”
And also, check out our interview with Mac from last month.
Jersey Shore’s Pauly D has been asked by Kim Kardashian to DJ at her store during NYC Fashion Week. Pauly has agreed to do it for free.
The event is called Fashion’s Night Out, and its the biggest event during Fashion Week. TMZ reports Pauly has agreed to DJ for free as a wedding present to Kim, and he usually gets $40,000 to DJ. And he wasn’t even invited to the wedding!
What a nice guy.
Kate Gosselin appeared on the daytime talk show “Regis and Kelly” explaining that her eight kids hate staying at Jon Gosselin’s apartment in New York City.
“I basically wait for the phone call from how many of them want to come home,” Kate explained on the show.
Kate further explained that the kids don’t feel comfortable in Jon’s apartment, and would prefer staying at their Pennsylvania home. Additionally she also claims Jon has been an absentee Dad. ”It’s only been three months that he’s actually been spending time with them and taking them.”
Jon struck back to Kate’s comments via Twitter.
We always thought Jon and Kate would end up on “Celebrity Rehab,” but we are changing that view. Their eight kids are going to be the ones ending up on that show. Imagine having two nut case parents like Kate and Jon. We can only assume stripper poles and cocaine are only around the corner.
The show will go on for “America’s Next Top Model.”
Following a Manhattan casting call that erupted in chaos over the weekend, host and executive producer Tyra Banks says auditions for the reality series will go forward.
“To all the ‘Top Model’ hopefuls who were affected by the New York casting, we are doing everything we can to make sure that ALL the girls who weren’t seen, get an opportunity to audition – we’ll update you on our plans very soon,” Banks said in a statement issued by the CW network Monday.
Competition is even more (as Tyra Banks would say) “fierce” this time around.
According to E! online, New York police arrested three people following a massive stampede that erupted during a casting call for the new season of the Banks-powered reality contest – a melee that involved hundreds of people outside a Central Park hotel.
Reports are stating that at least six people were injured, two of whom were hospitalized in a frantic scene that shut down the NY auditions. This season is focusing on model prospects under the height of 5-foot-7.
