It’s official, Lady Gaga is the queen of pop.
Gaga’s latest album, ‘Born This Way,’ has become one the fastest-selling albums in the world, with 288,000 copies sold in its first day. Yep, that’s more than many artists’ full-week of sales. But it doesn’t stop there.
The album then went on to sell 1,108,000 U.S. copies its first week alone. This means that ’Born This Way’ shows the largest week of sales of any album since 50 cent’s ’The Massacre,’ which sold 1,141,000 in its first week, reports Billboard.
On a global scale, the album sold over 1,000,000 copies outside the U.S. When you think of how many people illegally download music, that number is simply crazy.
First-week sales in the U.K. were also greater than the rest of the Top 10 combined, while her singles were #1 in many, many countries.
Success well deserved, I think.
There was no “oops,” but she sure did it again.
Britney Spears debuts at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her new single, “3,” according to Oh No They Didn’t. The new song makes Spears the first artist to debut at #1 in over three years and also debuts at #1 on the Billboard Digital charts.
Rolling Stone Magazine labelled “3″ as an “instant Britney classic” and gave the song a four star review. This is sure to add anticipation to the release of Spears’ greatest hits album, The Singles Collection, on Nov. 10. According to Billboard Magazine, Spears is the first artist outside those of American Idol fame to claim the #1 Billboard position since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.
“I want to thank my fans for making ’3′ the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100,” Britney said in response to her song’s success. “I am truly blessed with the greatest fans in the world, and I am so happy y’all love it because I do this all for you. I can’t wait till you see the video.”
