Biggie was killed in 1997 in Los Angeles while riding in a SUV after a music industry party.
We wonder if this turns out to be the biggest story of 2011!!
According to Diddy, the late Notorious B.I.G. deserves his own national holiday – and he’s making it happen.
Last night, Diddy rounded up hiphop artists Rick Ross, Fabolous, Red Café and Busta Rhymes to throw a memorial party for the iconic rap star, reports MTV.
B.I.G., who died on March 9, 1997, was commemorated through performances in his home of Brooklyn, N.Y..
In the biopic film “Notorious,” audiences across the globe got a glimpse into the life and times Christopher Wallace and the last event he attended just hours before tragedy struck and his life was ended.

Jamal Woolard, a rapper also known as Gravy, will portray rapper Notorious B.I.G. who was gunned down in the 1990s, ew.com reports.
Woolard got the role after a nationwide search, which began in August of last year, was done to cast the part.
The film will also star Angela Bassett, as Biggie’s mom; Anthony Mackie, who’s been cast as Tupac Shakur; and Derek Luke as Sean Combs.
The film is being done by Fox Searchlight films, and will begin shooting later this month in New York City.
The retrial in a wrongful death lawsuit brought against the city of Los Angeles by the family of rapper Notorious B.I.G. was postponed by a federal judge on Monday.
The retrial is now scheduled to commence on January 16, 2007, three months later than the date originally set. According to Billboard, the move by U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper was to give the family’s lawyers more time to seek information from the defense.
Notorious B.I.G. (real name: Christopher Wallace) was shot and killed in March of 1997. Though the murder has not been solved, his family’s lawsuit claims that rogue police officers were involved in the murder.
Last summer, Cooper declared a mistrial after discovering that a police detective intentionally his statements made by a jailed informant. The statements linked Wallace’s killing to former officers David Mack and Rafael Perez.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the family of the late Notorious B.I.G. (real name Christopher Wallace) is seeking $2 million in legal fees.
This happened just one month after U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper declared the 24 year-old rapper’s unsolved death a mistrial in the wrongful-death suit initiated by his family.
Assistant City Attorney Don Vincent says the fees requested by the rapper’s family are unrealistic.
“They have to really justify it well. I don’t know what their logic is or anything,” Vincent was quoted saying by The Associated Press.
Just three days after testimonies, Judge Cooper declared the wrongful-death suit a mistrial after an anonymous source revealed that the LAPD purposely withheld pertinent information to the family’s lawyers.
The Associated Press reports that Wallace’s family wants a re-trial after this information was brought forward.
They are seeking to press charges against former LAPD officer Rafael Perez who purportedly was involved in Wallace’s murder.
Variety reports that Fox Searchlight Pictures is in talks with Antoine Fuqua to direct a biopic of late rapper Notorious B.I.G..
Born Christopher Wallace, the rapper went from a drug dealer to a hip-hop sensation, helping establish Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy music label. B.I.G. was 24 when he was murdered, gunned down at a Vibe magazine after-party in March 1997. No one was ever charged in the murder. In 2002, his family filed a civil suit against the LAPD and the City of Los Angeles, alleging that police were involved. A mistrial was declared earlier this month.
The script is being written by Cheo Hodari Coker, a former journalist who was the last person to interview the rapper before his death. Coker also wrote the biography “Unbelievable: The Life, Death, and Afterlife of the Notorious B.I.G.” The biopic won’t be based on the book, but Coker will work closely with the Wallace family to write the screenplay.
The movie will be produced by B.I.G.’s mother, Voletta Wallace, and by his former managers, Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts. They’ve been trying to get the project off the ground for five years.
Barrow told Hollywood Reporter that he hopes to be in production early next year, and the most challenging aspect of the film will be casting.
“The most important element to casting B.I.G. is what we consider the swagger,” Barrow said. “They have to have the element of the man and be able to capture the essence of who he was and his maneuvering, his relishings of life. You can’t instill this in an individual, you just have to have it.”
The late Tupac Shakur’s former bodyguard testified today
at the federal wrongful death trial of Notorious B.I.G.
Kevin Hackie testified that the head of security for Death Row Records threatened to “get” rapper Notorious B.I.G in retaliation for the killing of Tupac Shakur, one of Death Row’s rap stars, reports the AP.
Hackie told the court that he feared for his life as a key witness in the trial. The lawsuit filed by B.I.G.’s family blames the Los Angeles Police Department and city for the rap star’s death.
Hackie, who was an FBI informant while serving as Shakur’s personal bodyguard for three years, said his security boss, Reginald Wright, told him before B.I.G. was killed, “We were going to get those (people) who downed ‘Pac ? Biggie and his crew.”
Hackie’s testimony was unable to definitively connect Death Row to a former Los Angeles police officer.
Hackie initially said he saw the former officer, David Mack, at numerous Death Row events, sometimes speaking with the record label’s leader, Marion “Suge” Knight. But he acknowledged under cross-examination that he only saw Mack with Knight and associates at several large parties or “social functions”.
Testimony in the case began Wednesday as attorneys for B.I.G.’s family tried to tie Mack to both Death Row and to the Mob Piru Blood street gang.
According to the theory underlying the suit, Mack arranged to have a college roommate driving Mack’s car shoot B.I.G. at Knight’s behest. Both Mack and the alleged shooter, Amir Muhammad, have been dropped from the family’s suit and have never been named as criminal suspects.
B.I.G., born Christopher Wallace, was gunned down shortly after midnight on March 9, 1997,in Los Angeles while leaving an awards show after-party.
Shakur was gunned down on the Las Vegas Strip six months before his rival B.I.G. was shot to death.
The killers involved in both slayings have not been found.
One of the most famous rapper murder cases in the last decade is in court eight years after the murder of the Notorious B.I.G.
Family members of the New York rapper have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and its police department. The jury was selected and opening statements were made on Tuesday.
Vincent Marella, lawyer for the city of L.A., said to the jury, “You will hear a lot of hearsay and supposition from incredible witnesses, unreliable informants. There won’t be any believable evidence that will substantiate the theory that you heard.”
The lawsuit said that both labels hired off-duty police officers as bodyguards.
In particular the family said that former LAPD officer, David Mack, who is currently serving a 14-year sentence for bank robbery, planned Wallace’s murder on Knight’s behalf in response to Tupac’s murder. Rob Frank, lawyer for Wallace’s widow and mother, said that Mack arranged to have a friend kill Wallace and used police equipment such as radios to help with the murder.
Mack’s lawyer said that the case is filled with lying witnesses talking about theories from books and movies.
Notorious B.I.G., born Christopher Wallace, was shot shortly after midnight on March 9, 1997, when someone in a dark sedan fired seven shots into his sport utility vehicle when both cars stopped at a red light on a L.A. street. Wallace was going to a hotel after an awards show after party.
No charges have been laid in the murder which happened six months after the fatal shooting of rapper, Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. Both murders have been linked to a rivalry between two New York and L.A. record labels.
Wallace discovered rapper Sean Combs, now known as P. Diddy, who founded the New York label Bad Boy Entertainment. Shakur belonged to the L.A. label, Death Row Records founded by Marion “Suge” Knight.
In 1994 Tupac survived a shooting at a recording studio in New York and blamed Wallace and Combs for the incident. Afterwards both labels allegedly associated with rival street gangs ? Bloods for Death Row, Crips for Bad Boy.
Tupac then said he had sex with Wallace’s wife and Wallace referenced Tupac’s 1994 shooting in his songs.
It’s unclear if Knight will testify. Combs gave a deposition but is unlikely to testify.
Combs said in an interview, “I’m completely supportive of the family and will always be supportive of the family.”
The trial is expected to last up to a month.
