Posted on andPOP:

Chad Kroeger, lead singer of Nickleback, was found guilty of drunk driving in British Columbia yesterday, cbc.ca reports.

The charges stem from an event in June 2006, where Kroeger was found driving with a blood alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit.

His lawyer tried to get the breathalyzer test Kroeger took ruled as inadmissible because it violated Kroeger’s rights, but the judge overruled.

“The judge found that his Charter of Rights were breached. However, he declined to exclude the breathalyzer results,” his lawyer said.

Sentencing will occur on May 1, Kroeger could face a fine or a driving ban. His lawyer says he plans to appeal the conviction.

Posted on andPOP:

A judge has ruled that a breathalyzer taken by Chad Kroeger is admissible, Canwest News Service reports.

The Nickleback frontman was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving in 2006. Allegedly the rock star had 140 milligrams of alcohol to 100 milligrams of blood – nearly twice the legal limit.

Kroeger was stopped by police in June of 2006 when police witnessed his car going 160 km/h, allegedly he gave the officers his credit card instead of his driver’s license when he was asked to produce the latter.

Kroeger was not in court on Monday when the decision was handed down. The next court date in the case is set for March 12.

Lead singer Chad Kroeger says former drummer Ryan Vikedal is claiming royalties on Nickelback songs even though he left the band in January.

Kroeger said he’s the only author and “maker” of the songs.

The Associated Press said Kroeger has demanded Vikedal sign registration forms returning their interests in future performance royalties and repay any royalties since he left the group.

Kroger says Vikedal has neglected or refused to comply and has continued to receive payments.
