Lil’ Kim trashes Nicki Minaj

Posted by @britt_mahaney on February 16th, 2012

People keep pushing Lil’ Kim to say something — anything — bad about Nick Minaj. On an appearance of “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen, the rapper admitted a few things about the “Super Bass” singer, with whom she has an ongoing feud.

First she said she didn’t know who Minaj is, then she said her controversial Grammy performance just “slipped past me.” Then she responded to Minaj’s new song “Stupid Hoe,” which is speculated to be a direct insult at Lil’ Kim after her track “Black Friday” poked fun at the singer last year.

Lil’ Kim said about the song: “If you have to make a song called stupid hoe, you must be a stupid hoe.” Ouch!

Four most bizarre Grammy fashions and what they might mean

Posted by @britt_mahaney on February 13th, 2012

The Grammys are known for outlandish “I can’t believe you went there fashions” and this year was no disappointment. These head-scratchers are among the best-worst fashions of the night, though their artistic message is up to you.

1) Sasha Gradiva wore a weapon-sleeve with her pink strapless dress. On Twitter, she said the look was meant to remind people to stand up for world peace and use weapons for artistic purposes only — ie her dress.

2) Nicki Minaj was escorted to the Grammys by a Pope impostor and dressed as a Cardinal-esque Little Red Riding Hood. Clearly, the Versace outfit was the only fitting option to prepare us for her later exorcism, which was successfully completed during her performance of “Roman Holiday.” What else would she wear for the occasion? (more…)

Top 5 WTF moments at last night’s Grammys

Posted by @britt_mahaney on February 13th, 2012

Sadly, Kanye is not on this year’s WTF Grammy list, which has us wondering, is he taming down or saving his energy for something doubly shocking? Only time will tell. In the meantime, there were plenty of bewildering/confusing/awkward moments to tide us over.

1) No one knows who Bon Iver is. Really? This is like last year’s who the f**k is Arcade Fire moment. Bon Iver won best new artist, though he’s not exactly new on the scene. A new Twitter account has been created in recognition, called Who Is Bonnie Bear?

2) Nicki Minaj’s Grammy ensemble made her usual skin-bearing outfits look conservative. Minaj channeled her religious side, donning a red Versace Catholic-inspired robe. She had a Pope look-a-like escort her and later performed an exorcism on herself — not sure how her date felt about that part. We’re comparing this to Lady Gaga’s egg moment of last year.

3) The most ironic moment of the night goes to the Foo Fighter’s walking off the stage to LMFAO’s “Party Rock” after winning best rock performance. Grohl shouted “long live rock ‘n’ roll” as the electro pop song negated their point.

4) Coldplay got slack for his cracking voice. We all thought Adele was the one to worry about, what with her throat surgery and all, but apparently Chris Martin and Rihanna’s performance was not a favourite. Strangely, a Chipotle commercial aired right after the performance, featuring Coldplay’s music, prompting many to say the commercial represented an actual Coldplay performance. I don’t see the big deal! I don’t think his voice was that bad. Just me? Okay.

5) The Beach Boys reunion underwhelmed audiences. I hate to say it, but it kind of felt like a performance for a Florida retirement home. The California boys shared the stage with Maroon 5 and Foster the People. Foster the People has my vote as best of the three, though the band looked scared out of their minds.

LISTEN: Nicki Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’ Super Slowly

Posted by Natalia Buia on February 6th, 2012

When Nicki raps she spits out a hundred words per minute. She’s one of the fastest talkers out there in the industry.

But what would she sound like if she was played in super slow motion? The answer: Jay-Z.

One YouTube user uploaded a sluggish version of her popular music video “Super Bass”. The normally 3 minute long song is now an extended 4:52. You even get to see Nicki dance at the speed of a snail, which is pretty amusing.

Nicki sounds so much like Hova it’s a bit frightening. Check it out:

WATCH: Madonna Perform at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show

Posted by Natalia Buia on February 6th, 2012

When Madonna agreed to perform at the half-time show last night, she promised fans “the greatest show on earth in the middle of the greatest show on earth”.

Not that many people knew what to expect, other than a medley of her old, classic songs and a performance with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj.

She began her set with “Vogue”, as she was being carried by an army of gladiators to the stage. She sang (or rather, lip synced) “Express Yourself”, “Like a Prayer” with Cee Lo Green and “Music” with LMFAO.

When it was time to perform her newest, “Give Me All Your Luvin’”, Nicki and M.I.A. joined her on stage, dressed as some sort of Egyptian cheerleaders.

My favourite performance has to be her duet with Cee Lo, which was saved for last. A choir of a hundred people joined the two on stage and when the song finished, “WORLD PEACE” was seen lit on the stadium. Aw, shucks!

Watch the 13-minute long set below.

WATCH: New Madonna Video ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ ft. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj

Posted by Natalia Buia on February 3rd, 2012

Damn! M.I.A. is on a roll today. Her other music video featuring Madonna and Nicki Minaj has also been released today.

M.I.A. and Nicki act as Madonna’s cheerleaders in her comeback song. All three look amazing — Madonna more so when she’s fully clothes — as they are roaming the streets, being carried off by football players.

This is a great lead up to their Superbowl performance this Sunday night.

The song itself is very corny and playful. It could easily be placed in an iPod commercial. It’s that catchy. See for yourself.

Nicki Minaj’s Diva Demands on Tour

Posted by Natalia Buia on February 2nd, 2012

Compared to Celine Dion or Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj isn’t as big of a diva while on tour. She doesn’t particularly request a white dressing room with white doves or a chocolate fountain or anything ridiculous like that.

According to Buzzfeed, her tour demands are pretty normal. Here’s a small fraction of her list.

- Two dozen pink or white roses

- Three scented candles

- Belgian waffles

- Cool mist humidifier and a space heater

- 12 bottles of Martinelli’s apple juice

- Egg whites, turkey bacon, & white toast

- 3 packs of Thayers Slippery Elm lozenges

- Large cheese platter

- 12 cans of Red Bull

- Singer’s Saving Grace throat spray

- 3 buckets of KFC

WATCH: Nicki Minaj and David Guetta ‘Turn Me On’ Music Video

Posted by Natalia Buia on January 31st, 2012

If you thought Nicki Minaj’s video for “Stupid Hoe” was really weird, wait until you see her latest featuring David Guetta.

While David Guetta’s songs and beats are generic, his videos prove to be the opposite.

The Frankenstein-esque video for “Turn Me On” has the DJ clipping away in his dungeon to create the ultimate female pop star, Nicki Minaj. The pink-haired rebel spends half the video an actual plastic doll – freaky!

We’ve never seen the two über cool performers in a dingy, medieval setting before so this is kind of a treat, albeit a pretty disturbing one.

Nicki Minaj Drops New Song, ‘Stupid Hoe’

Posted by Natalia Buia on December 20th, 2011

Before Nicki Minaj’s sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman’s Revenge is out on Valentine’s Day next year, she’s giving fans a free listen to her track “Stupid Hoe”.

In this song, the Grammy-nominated artist does an excellent job at rapping with her usual snarky attitude. She even drops lines about Angelina Jolie vs. Jennifer Aniston. It’s hard to tell exactly who she’s referring to when she sings about stupid hoes.

Nicki sounds more confident in her lyrics than ever. She declares herself “the female Weezy” and confirms her Super Bowl appearance for next year. She’ll be performing a song with Madonna during the biggest televised football game in the world.

Listen to “Stupid Hoe” below.

Nicki Minaj Says She’s A Low Key Girl

Posted by andPOP Staff on December 10th, 2011

In a recent interview with Glamour UK, Nicki Minaj said that she’s a low key girl. Really? This is the same girl who wears crazy and outlandish outfits, and once even had her tit slip on live TV.

She said that at home, she wears very conservative clothing and doesn’t wear any makeup. ”In my downtime I am the most low-key person in the world.”

And although she’s very beautiful, she admits she has some insecurities. ”We all have insecurities, but you have to know you’re beautiful,” she exclaimed.

“I’m comfortable in my skin, and I don’t feel the need to change for anyone.”

Britney Spears Sends Video Message to Nicki Minaj

Posted by Natalia Buia on December 8th, 2011

Britney Spears wouldn’t dare miss her former concert opener’s birthday, today!

Nicki Minaj turns 29 today and Britney appears to be the first celeb to send out a video message to the chart-topping rapper.

Britney says she misses having Nicki on tour and wishes her good luck at the Grammys. Nicki’s nominated for many awards including Best New Artist.

Knowing how outrageous and wild Nicki can be, I’m sure she’s throwing a fierce birthday bash today. I can’t tell if it’ll feature her infamous impersonator, as seen at Miley’s 19th birthday party. I do have a feeling that a lot of things will be painted pink. Now, if only her faux-lover Drake could pop out of a cake…

Check out Britney’s heartwarming video below.

Nicki Minaj Unleashes ‘Roman in Moscow’

Posted by Natalia Buia on December 5th, 2011

The deluxe version of the rapper’s debut album is set to be released in February. Until then, Nicki and all of her split personalities are heading to Russia for a little inspiration.

One of her alter egos, Roman, gets to host an entire track, titled “Roman in Moscow” (a bonus track in the “Pink Friday” deluxe CD). In it, you can expect a ton of angsty drum beats, rapid-fire spitting and a lot of sass. Idolator jokes the rapper belts out the word “bitch” 800 times.

Nicki just got nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Artist category. The award ceremony will air February 12, just two days before the deluxe album comes out. If Nicki were to win any of the three awards she’s nominated for, I guarantee the album will go straight to number one – again!

Nicki Minaj Turns Into a Doll

Posted by Natalia Buia on December 2nd, 2011

The people that brought us Barbies for the past 50 years, are the same people who will soon bring Nicki Minaj to toy shelves across the world.

Mattell has announced they will create a one-of-a-kind replica of the pink haired rapper for charity. The Hollywood Reporter says that starting next Wednesday, bidding for the doll will begin at $1,000.

The proceeds will all go towards Project Angel Food, an organization that provides food for people affected by HIV and AIDS. This isn’t the first time the charity has auctioned off famous dolls. Janet Jackson and Rachel Zoe are stars that have turned into one-of-a-kind Barbies.

It will be really exciting to see what kind of eccentric outfit the Nicki doll will wear. Billboard claims they will post a photo of the doll sometime later today.

Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Maroon 5 Perform at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Posted by Natalia Buia on November 30th, 2011

Over 100 million people watch the Superbowl every year and when it comes to the lingerie of superbowls, over ten million people tune in to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Last night’s show raked in the highest ratings since 2002, the Hollywood Reporter says. The show certainly got some help from the hottest rappers around the most expensive bra ever (Miranda Kerr rocked a $2.5 million dollar bra).

Jay-Z and Kanye performed “N*ggas in Paris” while a a pregnant Beyonce got to throw her diamond-filled hands in the air, waving them around like she just didn’t care. Check out the video below.

Kanye later performed his 2007 hit “Stronger”.

Nicki Minaj brightened up the stage by popping by to sing “Super Bass”.

Last but not least, Maroon 5 performed “Moves Like Jagger” without Christina Aguilera. Lead singer Adam Levine certainly didn’t miss her since he seemed incredibly distracted by his girlfriend, Victoria’s Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna. He even escorted her down the runway and planted a big kiss on her. It’s so cute, I want to throw up.

Cher and Nicki Minaj Fight on Twitter

Posted by Natalia Buia on November 28th, 2011

In this week’s “Twitter Fight: Celebrity Edition”, it’s hip-hop star Nicki Minaj versus pop icon Cher.

It all started when Nicki allegedly disses Cher in her song “Did It On Em”. She sings “If you could turn back time, Cher/You used to be here but now you gone, Nair,” which doesn’t really make sense but I assume she’s making fun of Cher’s body hair.

Perez Hilton says a fan brought this to the 65-year-old performer’s attention.

Cher replied to the nameless fan saying: “I’ve seen lots of people come & go! No biggie!”

Then Nicki’s boyfriend Safaree Samuels has to stick his nose in someone elses’ business and tweeted to Cher, “listen to the words b4 you say dumb sh-t on twitter. do you know what a rap metaphore is??? TM is a cult you dont want it with!!” …Whatever that means!

None of this would have happened if random people weren’t going to Cher wanting to start another Chris Brown Twitter meltdown. Let this to a lesson to everybody: mind your own business. These people have real work to do.

Photos of Miley Cyrus’ 19th Birthday

Posted by Natalia Buia on November 25th, 2011

As mentioned yesterday, Miley Cyrus celebrated her 19th birthday surrounded by all her family, friends, midgets and unicorns.

The lavish bash, put together by close friend Kelly Osbourne, had everyone partying at the Roosevelt Hotel until the sun came up. Now, we finally have a few photos of the big event to share with you, thanks to Miley Gallery.

Miley danced (and drank) the night away with some very colourful guests including a mini Nicki Minaj impersonator, the Cookie Monster and a giant panda.

There certainly weren’t any high requirements for Miley’s birthday party.

Remember how Miley said a unicorn greeted her at the front lobby? Well, this is it! I’ll be patiently waiting for my invitation to her 20th birthday next year.

Nicki Minaj Named Billboard’s ‘Rising Star of the Year’

Posted by Elisheva Baer on November 23rd, 2011

I couldn’t think of anyone who deserves it more!

After the immense success Nicki Minaj’s album, Pink Friday has seen since its release in November 2010, Billboard has decided to honor the “Super Bass” rapper with the title of “Rising Star of the Year” at ther Women in Music event on December 2. Last year the award was received by Jazmine Sullivan, proceeding Lady Gaga in 2009 and Colbie Caillat in 2008.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized by Billboard,” Minaj says. “My nation of Barbz and I have come a mighty long way; yet we are nowhere close to where God will take us. Sit back and enjoy the ride.”

“Nicki Minaj has established herself as a force in hip-hop and pop music, and we’re thrilled to recognize her accomplishments over the past year by honoring her as this year’s Rising Star,” says Billboard‘s editorial director, Bill Werde. “Her unique style and powerful sound will undoubtedly lead to a long and lustrous career, and we look forward to seeing where she goes and what she does next.”

Minaj has also just announced that she will be releasing an album entitled, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, this coming Valentines Day.

Nicki, all I can say is that I’m so proud of you!
