Canadians Take Four Out of Five Sports on Billboard Charts

Canada’s not only a leader in premium maple syrup and the most tender, crispiest back bacon, we’re masters of the Billboard music scene.

According to the Billboard Hot 200 Charts, four of the top five positions on the Billboard Chart are held by Canadians. Not too shabby for a country that repeatedly gets made fun of for “being too nice”. It’s a-boot time Americans paid more attention to our fine exports.

Michael Buble’s “Christmas” album reigns in the top spot. Justin Bieber’s “Under the Mistletoe” is in third place. Drake’s “Take Care” is holding steady at four while Nickelback rounds out the top 5 with “Here and Now”.

Ah, if it weren’t for Adele maybe we could have finally had all top 5 positions to a Canuck. She’s interrupting the Canadian flow by being in second place with “21″.

Such achievement has never been made by Canadians. Canadian broadcaster Alan Cross commented on this phenomenon, saying, “earlier this year I think there were three in the top ten, but never four in the top five. Canadians continue to punch above their weight.”

Let’s hope this Canadian momentum will last enough to take us in to the new year.

Nickelback Perform at Grey Cup Halftime Show

The band everyone loves to hate performed at the 99th Grey Cup halftime show this weekend in Vancouver.

For a band that gets trashed and mocked constantly by music enthusiasts, they still manage to sell millions of records. So, perhaps it’s not all that shocking to see them take the stage at the most important Canadian football game.

Reactions went through the roof in the Twitterverse when the band began to rock out.

One Vancouver M.P. came to the band’s defence. James Moore tweeted “Nickelback @ Grey Cup – v.solid. Bashing them is cliche & overdone.”

A writer for Maclean’s Magazine, Paul Wells, also showed he’s Team Nickelback by writing: “Mocking a halftime show by Nickelback at a football game has got to be the lowest conceivable cost-of-entry into hipsterism.”

Those average Joes watching the show were live tweeting with comments like “Due to a coal shortage, Santa will be giving all bad little boys and girls Nickelback CDs.” and “Yeah, no. Nickelback is like the worst band ever.”

I can’t wait to see how many viewers this year’s half-time show garnered compared to last year’s show (I’m assuming a more respectable band played). If you missed out on the performance, check out the video below.

After years of hustling, Chad Kroeger recognized their talents and signed them to his own label, 604 Records. And these guys never rest as they are either always writing, recording or touring. And along the way they have developed some great relationships with other Canadian bands like Hedley, who nailed them with an awesome prank!

Wait, wait… Chad Kroeger has a girlfriend?

Sorry, enough jokes. Here’s the scoop.

As CHARTattack.com reports, Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger has made headlines recently for firing his housekeeper, Arlene Morris.

The firing took place just a few days before Nickelback’s Vancouver concert on June 3. Morris says that Kroeger had promised her tickets to the show for her five songs, but took the offer back after she was fired.

To add insult to injury, Morris’ 11-year-old son was so sad over the events that he wrote a letter to the Vancouver Sun newspaper.

“[Eight] months were waiting and the day is just about here when my mom gets a call,” Morris’ son wrote. “Oh wow how hard that was, she tells us the tickets were cancelled guys im sorry and not only that he fires her too.”

“Well mr CHAD KRUGER WE dont think your cool and we took your stupid picture off our rockstar wall cause you dont deserve to sit up there with john lennon, mick jagger or bob dylan,” the letter continued.

Jonathan Simkin, Nickelback’s manager, told the Vancouver Province newspaper that Morris was fired for taking Kroeger’s girlfriend’s discarded clothes - an act that Morris denies. Simkin also said that Morris was not directly employed by Kroeger, but had actually been hired by a fellow employee. That same employee was apparently the one who decided to fire her.

Large Stephen Harper Photo Appears At Nickelback Show

This is technically old news, but it’s too hilarious to ignore.

CHARTattack.com has reported that a giant photo of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper appeared as part of a photo montage during an Ottawa Nickelback concert back on April 11.

Apparently Nickelback’s lead singer Chad Kroeger met with the PM earlier that night at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa. But it was when the band took the stage at Ottawa’s Scotiabank Place that things started to get a tad more - erm – political.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, the prime minister and his son were at the concert. The paper’s review of the show talks about a photo montage of the Nickelback guys that played on a big screen behind the band as they played their hit song “Photograph.” But apparently it wasn’t just Nickelback who showed up on the screen.

As a photo on CHARTattack.com shows, a big head shot of the prime minister himself can be seen behind a tiny-in-comparisson Kroeger.

Hilarious? Yes.

Could this be the magical work of Photoshop (props to that person) or a true aspect of the show? Did the audience applaud when our leader’s face appeared on screen? Did they cheer? Boo? Was this a special treat for the Ottawa show or a part of all Canadian dates? Perhaps even dates in the USA?

So many questions. Nickelback, we want answers.

Tiger Woods Parties With Nickelback

We wouldn’t think that Tiger Woods would be a huge Nickelback fan, but apparently we would be wrong. Tiger is apparently a huge Nickelback fan.

According to TMZ, Tiger attended the Nickelback concert last night in Orlando and even joined the boys backstage. He apparently kept a pretty low profile last night but was still more than happy to see one of his favorite bands.

However this maybe proof that Tiger still hasn’t learned his lesson. Why? Nickelback parties are notorious for a lot of slutty and easy women. Not a good place for a guy who is a recovering “sex addict.”

Pickle Officially Has More Facebook Fans than Nickelback

Crunchy, salty, dilly pickles – who WOULDN’T want to become a Facebook fan of such a delicious food?

If you have Facebook, chances are you have seen the “Can This Pickle Get More Fans Than Nickelback (sic)?” fan page. You might have even joined it.

Well, as CHARTattack.com reports, the page has officially answered the question, and the answer is a big fat yes. The pickle page currently has about 1,450,000 fans, which is almost 50,000 more fans than the Nickelback page.

Rumors have floated around that Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger is trying to shut down the page. A Facebook user posted a link to a screencap of a Facebook message from a user named Chad Kroeger.

“Your page will be closed in 2 weeks,” Kroeger said to Coral Anne, the page’s creator.

“I still whooped your ass, Chad!” she said in reply.

It is unclear whether the user is the real Kroeger or just an angry Nickelback fan posing as the singer.

The creators of the pickle page also put together a celebratory video, which can be seen on YouTube:

Now THERE’S a headline you probably never thought you’d see.

Jason Mac, a New Zealand radio DJ for The Rock FM, lost some kind of bet which meant he had to get the image of Nickelack singer/guitarist Chad Kroeger tattooed on his right butt cheek.

To make matters worse, the tattoo depicts Kroeger holding a penis instead of a microphone.

Ouch.

Nickelback Declared The Band Of The Decade

Yes, Nickelback was voted the worst band in the world by Word magazine, but apparently this doesn’t correlate to success in the music industry whatsoever.

According to chartattack.com, Nickelback has been declared the band of the decade by Billboard magazine. They have sold more records than any other band from 2000 to 2009, which consists of more than 30 million albums worldwide from the four albums they have released over the decade. The long-haired Chad Kroeger must be undoubtedly proud of his small-town band that originated in the prairies.

Still think they are the worst band?

Though they have had their shares of ups-and-downs, its appears as though this band is here to stay. After picking up 20 per cent of the vote to be the “worst band in the world,” Billboard and statistics don’t lie.

Other winners in the Billboard poll were Eminem, the top artist of the decade, and NSync’s No Strings Attached as the top selling album of the decade.

Nickelback is currently on a worldwide tour, with Liverpool and London the agenda next. They will also be performing in Basel, Switzerland and Austria in January, among other hot-spot destinations.

You might want to keep looking.

Readers of the United Kingdom’s Word Magazine recently voted on who they think the worst band in the world is, and the majority of them said the title belongs to the Canadian rock band Nickelback, reports CHARTattack.com.

Nearly 20 per cent of Word Magazine’s voters agreed that Nickelback was the worst band in the world, with only Lighthouse Family, a long-forgotten British pop duo, coming close with 14 per cent of the poll’s vote.

And while a Canadian band takes the top spot, Word readers directed most of their dislike towards local bands, including Toploader, M People, The Troggs, and Beautiful South. American alternative rock band Maroon 5 took in 6.6 per cent of the vote, and the Irish band Snow Patrol took in 5.2 per cent.

Beyonce Beats Out Cook and Nickelback

Beyoncé Knowles’ double-disk “I Am…Sasha Fierce” beat out new albums by rockers Nickelback and American Idol winner David Cook. The singer earned her third No. 1 album with 485,000 copies sold.

Meanwhile Nickelback took the No. 2 spot selling 327,000 copies followed by David Cook (289,000). In her new album, Beyoncé unleashes her alter ego, Sasha Fierce. Up until now, her slightly more aggressive ego has only appeared in live performances.

Beyoncé’s new album topped the debut of 2003’s “Dangerously in Love” by approximately 166,000 copes, but followed under “B-Day” released in 2006.

Still, Taylor Swift emerges as the winner of 2008’s biggest female debut with 592,000 albums sold for “Fearless”. The album landed at the No.4 spot this week.

Nickelback has recently announced the launch of a North American tour followed by the success of the album “Dark Horse”. And while debuting at No.3, David Cook won the title of most digital copies sold for a new album, selling 59,000 digital copies.

Nickelback Wants Kids To Play Real Guitar

With “Dark Horse” released on November 18 and an upcoming tour set for late February, Nickelback has a lot to look forward to and wants kids to ditch ‘Guitar Hero’ for real guitars.

“I feel like there’s not enough rock bands out there, especially when we go on the road,” front man Chad Kroeger said to MTV News.

“It’s tough to find other bands out there, because either they’re making a record, or they just got done touring. So kids: Start rock bands. Set down the ‘Guitar Hero,’ learn how to play an actual guitar and start a band, because it’s hard to find more bands to put a solid rock-and-roll package together, to get out there. It’s getting harder and harder, but I think we’ve done it.”

According to Kroeger, the album was not easy to make and took more than six months to create. The band hopes to have even more success then they did with 2005’s “All the Right Reasons,” “The bar’s been raised — it’s pretty high, especially if we are going to be looking back at the last record.

“I think our fans were pretty happy with it, and we made a lot of new fans with that one, and we want to keep ‘em. Call us greedy, but we want to keep ‘em all. We want to keep going back to all those towns and have those people show up and want to sing our songs back at us, twice as loud. That’s why we keep doing what we’re doing. This is a good gig. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s every young kid’s dream.”

Nickelback Surprised With Own Award Win

Canadian rockband Nickelback were the only Canuks to take home an award at the American Music Awards on Tuesday.

Taking to the stage, Jesus, er, Chad Kroeger, admitted the developed world wasn’t the only collective body to be surprised by the best pop/rock album win.

“This is extremely unexpected,” said the Kroegs. “We just kinda showed up because we were supposed to give one of these away tonight.

“We thought for sure the Chilies were gonna just like clean house tonight.”

Nickelback’s CD, All The Right Reasons, was released in October 2005 and has been on the Billboard 200 for 58 weeks, peaking at No.1, baby!

The single “Far Away” still sits in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 at number 15. It’s been on that chart for 18 weeks, peaking at number eight.

Chad Kroeger’s Drunk Driving Case Pushed Back

The case over drunk driving charges against Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger has been pushed back.

The provincial court in Surry, BC will now hear the case on September 15, according to the Canadian Press.

Kroeger was charged with impaired driving after being pulled over and registering a blood-alcohol level above .08.

His car was stopped and Kroeger was arrested on June 22 after RCMP officers spotted him driving erratically.

The singer (real name: Chad Robert Turton) is currently on tour with Nickelback in Texas. He is being represented in court by lawyer Marvin Stern.

Chad Kroeger Charged With Drunk Driving

Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger has been charged with drunk driving stemming from a June 22 incident in Surrey, B.C.

Kroeger, real name Chad Robert Turton, will appear in court on Aug. 25, said Crown Attorney Stan Lowe. CTV.ca reports Kroeger was stopped by two officers in police cruisers after they became suspicious of the way the vehicle was being driven.

The rock singer is charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over .08.

Kroeger’s lawyer released a statement on behalf of the singer that said Kroeger “wishes to make it clear to all his fans that drinking and driving is something that should be avoided at all costs.”

Nickelback Join Million Download Club

Canadian band Nickelback has joined the million download club, reports the rock group’s label Roadrunner Records.

Nickelback’s single “Photograph” has been downloaded over one million times, according to Neilsen Soundscan?s Release To Date Digital Tracks Chart.

Nickelback is only the sixth act to have a single pass the million download mark.

“Photograph”, from the album All The Right Reasons, hit the mark after 28 weeks, making it the 2nd fastest climb in digital history.

Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger Inspired By Ex

Nickelback’s lead singer, Chad Kroeger, said he was inspired to write “How You Remind Me” after fighting with his girlfriend.

“I was sitting in the basement of my old house in 2000 having just got into a big argument with my girlfriend. So I guess I was feeling pretty jaded at the time,” he said.

“I wanted to write some lyrics that were a slap in the face to her. Even though I do say in the song that I love her, I kind of wanted to throw her a back-handed slap. So I was being very direct, and yelling into the microphone so that she could hear what I was saying. We actually talked about it years later and I told her I wrote the song about her, and she would not believe that she was the ‘How You Remind Me’ girl.”

While “How You Remind Me” was the first hit single for the Canadian band, their latest, “Photograph” has pushed their latest disc, All The Right Reasons, to number one on Billboard charts.

Writing from experience once again, Kroeger penned this song about his teenage years in small town Canada.

“It’s not about a girl. It doesn’t have the same feel as ‘How You Remind Me’ or ‘Someday.’ It’s a bit of a different Nickelback song,” drummer Daniel Adair told a Wisconsin newspaper. “But we thought, ‘Well, maybe it could work, so let’s give it a shot.’ And it took off.”
