Madonna is heading back to the studio to work on a new album, reports Canoe Jam.

Madonna’s manager confirmed the news, writing on twitter: ”Madonna goes into the recording studio next month to begin work on (her) new album… She has a good idea which producers she will be working with… There is nothing to report in regards to (a) tour. You guys know how this works… first comes the album and next comes the (tour).”

This news comes just months after she claimed to be quitting her music career because she doesn’t have the “time or energy” to sing. So much for that.

The iconic singer has been putting her filmmaking career first lately, where she has been filming a new movie called ‘W.E.’

It’s amazing that, after all these years, she’s still making music and reinventing herself once again. Her music is fun and definitely a guilty pleasure, so dare I say I’m excited?

Beyonce has addressed her fans in regards to her album leaking in its entirety yesterday, reports Billboard.

The singer’s album, ’4,’ was leaked two weeks before it’s scheduled date of July 28. While Beyonce isn’t happy, she is thanking her fans for the positive feedback she’s been receiving.

Beyoncé took to her official Facebook today to address the leak:

“My music was leaked and while this is not how I wanted to present my new songs, I appreciate the positive response from my fans. When I record music I always think about my fans singing every note and dancing to every beat. I make music to make people happy and I appreciate that everyone has been so anxious to hear my new songs.”

The album comes out July 28 and Target stores will carry an exclusive version of the album with extra tracks.

According to my Twitter feed last night, the feedback wasn’t all positive. Many say the album is a little dull, and nothing compared to her lead single ‘Run The World (Girls).’ I don’t really support leaked albums, so I’ll wait for the official one before judging.

Aerosmith is heading back in the studio to begin working on their long-delayed new album, reports Billboard.

Not that frontman Steven Tyler is done with ‘American Idol’ for the season, he has plenty of time to work on his own stuff. The singer and his four bandmates plan to reunite next month with producer Jack Douglas, guitarist Joe Perry says.

“Whole band has plans to go into the studio with Jack Douglas second week of July to work on new Aero CD,” Perry tweeted.

The album will be recorded in a Massachusetts studio the band built six years ago. This will be the band’s newest materiel since 2001′s ‘Just Push Play.’

The band has delayed recording due to several reasons, like health problems rising among the members or Tyler’s pushing desire to go solo.

It’s about time – I doubt their new stuff will be as good as the classics, but I’m sure they’ll be back with some fresh stuff!

Lady Antebellum has set a September release date for their new album, reports Billboard.

The country group will release their highly anticipated third album, ‘Own the Night,’ on September 13.

“We’ve spent the last year, year and a half writing for it, and we’re really proud,” Charles Kelley said.

The album’s first single ‘Just a Kiss’ debuted just last month, which fans hailed a great follow-up to their original smash ‘Need You Now.’

“We’re just excited. With the first single debuting in the top 10, we never expected that, so hopefully off to a good start,” says Kelley. “You never know until it gets out there with the fans. We feel good about it, but they’ll let us know if they like it or not.”

I’m sure fans across the nation will enjoy it, Kelley. The group is really unique, so I hope they stick around for a really long time and continue making hits.

This summer is going to be hotter than ever.

Singer, actress and all-around performing machine, Beyoncé Knowles,  is looking to release her fourth studio album this coming June — and the reviews are already glowing.

After unveiling six tracks from the currently untitled album to record bosses in New York, Sony Music Australia executive Denis Handlin, revealed that Knowles’ new material was triumphant.

“It was just amazing,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “These songs, the best description I can give is groundbreaking. She’s gone to another level.”

The songstress and wife of rap mogul, Jay-Z, has described the new album’s sound as a mixture of various genres.

“I’m not in a box,” she said to MTV News. “It’s not R&B. It’s not typically pop. It’s not rock. It’s just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music.”

Knowles has cited her inspirations for the album, including artists like The Stylistics, Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, to name a few. Though details of the album remain unknown, fans can expect the songstress’s new sound to include samplings of such talent as Jim Jonsin, Diplo, The-Dream, Ne-Yo and even indie group, Sleigh Bells in the her follow-up record to ‘I am…Sasha Fierce.’

The album will also be released in time for the 29-year-old entertainer’s headlining gig at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, in Somerset, England. She may have taken a little bit of time off from world domination, but it looks as though some time out of the spotlight was just was Beyoncé needed to bring us back to our knees.

I, for one, can’t wait.

Gwen Stefani, lead singer of No Doubt, revealed on ‘On Air with Ryan Seacrest’ Friday that a new No Doubt album is expected to be released sometime this year.

The singer phoned in on Friday to chat about styling the girls on ‘American Idol,’ which she did awesomely if I may say so myself, as well as revealed what’s in store with the upcoming No Doubt record. She revealed the album will be “definitely out this year.”

Although Stefani didn’t mention an exact date, the L.A.M.B. rocker revealed, “we’ve been going for awhile trying to make this record and it’s been super challenging but really fun, we’re trying to enjoy the moment of writing and…it’s just a really fun process and I think it’s going to be out this year,” adding, “it’s generally a really happy album…the main thing we were trying to do is write really catchy good songs.”

Gwen further revealed, “we got about 10 songs done and we want to do a few more just in case, but it’s a really good record, I really love this record.”

I’m so excited by this news! They have always been a favourite of mine. I was so sad when I missed their reunion tour a year ago or so, so this will be a good kickstart to their comeback. I’m glad their taking their time to write this album too, instead of rushing out a bunch of crap like many other bands do. Although I loved Stefani’s solo stuff and her different experimentation, there is nothing that can replace the No Doubt music – it’s just so unique and fresh. Can’t wait!

Digital Spy is reporting that Cher is going country for her next album. What?

Country music producer Mark Bright has confirmed that he will be working on a new album with Cher in the near future. Bright has worked with numerous country acts, and is known as one of the masterminds behind all three of Carrie Underwood’s studio albums.

When asked about working with Cher, he told Silk and Denim Music: “Cher knows that her listeners also listen to country music, so she felt it was a natural thing to develop a country music relationship.”

The album would be the first solo effort from Cher since 2001′s Living Proof. That’s a decade!

The star has recently appeared in the film and soundtrack for “Burlesque” alongside Christina Aguilera. Although Cher won a Golden Globe for the song ‘You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me’ from the film’s soundtrack, she failed to win an Oscar.

Cher is such an icon, and I can guarantee that her dedicated fans will follow her no matter what music path she decides to embark on, but country? Really? I guess her deep, crooner voice would fit with the genre, but I just have such an image of Cher as this electronic disco diva that I find it hard to picture her in a cowboy hat.

Props to her for trying something new, though. Unlike Avril Lavigne or the Backstreet Boys, who have been doing this forever without a change in style, at least Cher is taking a risk. And I like risk-taking. Yeehaw, Cher, Yee-haw.

OMG everyone that was 12 when Avril Lavigne’s first album came out, get excited because she has plans to release a fourth album. According to Perezhilton.com, Lavigne has been sitting on the record for a year now. It must be pretty awful, and by that I mean awesome. It’s been an eon since Lavigne last released an album, wonder if she can make a good enough come back to ride the slut wave along with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. She may have to tweak her image a bit.

Lavigne claims that the record is “special” and “close to her heart”. I guess we can’t expect a Sk8er Boi track on this album. Maybe we’ll get a Surfer Boi track, in a “subtle” I reference to her relationship with Brody Jenner. Damn Avril you’ve come so far.

The Huffington Post reports that during a screening of his film “Runaway” on Monday in Los Angeles, Kanye West revealed that he has considered suicide in the past.

Describing himself as a pop icon and “soldier for culture,” West told the crowd “there were times that I contemplated suicide.” However, he said, “I will not give up on life again.”

“There’s so many people that will never get the chance to have their voice heard” as loudly as his, West said Monday. “I do it for them.”

“Runaway,” which West is the director of the abstract 35-minute film, features portions of nine new West songs, with bold and beautiful visuals. The film will premiere this weekend on MTV, VH1, and BET.

“It’s amazing what you can get yourself into during the down times of recording,” Ryan Demars, bass player of Santa Cruz ska/surf rock band The Expendables, said in an email interview.

“We had a bunch of parties out by the pool almost every night.  We had some porn star friends come up and some B list celebrities come … leading into weird orgies and questionable situations.”

“It was nuts.”

All the parties and weird orgies occurred in a small cottage by Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, where the band briefly lived and recorded their self titled album in 2007.

Three years later, in 2010, The Expendables would release, in their opinion, the first album that they were ever actually prepared for.  This land marking album is titled “Prove It.”

“I want people to be satisfied with our effort,” Demars said.  Also, “I want people to get excited when they hear our new stuff, because that is how I feel when we play the new songs.”

But things really kicked off for the Santa Cruz ska/surf rock band back in 1997 when the group first formed.  At this time, the guys enjoyed a laid back experience that consisted of making music, partying, skating and surfing.

Then after three years of a laid back lifestyle, The Expendables got there first big break with the release of their debut album, “No Time To Worry.”

Barely one year later, The Expendables were ready to release their second album titled “Open Container.”

At about the release time of “Open Container” in 2001, the band started to gain respect and recognition regionally.

“I think that at that point in our career we decided on our commitment to ourselves, to our fans, and to our music,” Demars said.  “Also, in that time period we were coming up with a lot of songs that eventually gained a lot of popularity.”

The big hits included the songs Fire starter, 24/7, and One Night Stand, just to name a few.

After the success of their second album, The Expendables thought it was time for another album and they hit the studio.  The result was their third full length album, “Gettin’ Filthy.”

Shortly after the release of “Gettin’ Filthy,” the boys decided to hit the road.  They toured rigorously with the likes of Fishbone, Pepper, and Slightly Stoopid.

On one particular tour with Slightly Stoopid, the band caught the attention of Stoopid co-front man Miles Doughty.  He said that they were the best thing to happen to metal since the 80’s.

“To get a compliment from them feels very rewarding,” Demars said.  “However, I don’t agree with his statement.  There are tons of sick metal bands that have slayed since the 80’s.  We’re not a metal band.”

But that didn’t stop Doughty from signing the guys to Slightly Stoopid’s independent record label, “Stoopid Records.”  Here, The Expendables would be the first band on the label to release a non-Stoopid album.

For the next year and a half, The Expendables continued touring and on the side they wrote new tunes for what would be their self titled fourth album.  The album brought in a lot of success for the band.

Among that success, especially in early 2009, was being able to play shows with punk-rock legends, NOFX.

“Playing with NOFX … is like busting the biggest nut of your life,” Demars said.  “So awesome.”

After the success of their fourth album and touring relentlessly, the band decided idle time was not an option.  So, The Expendables decided to hit the studio once more, and record their fifth full-length album, “Prove It.”

When The Expendables were not too busy with orgies or the recording of “Prove It,” they took pleasure in a leisure life style and “enjoyed ping pong and all dude pool parties.”

“We wanted to make sure that we gave ourselves the best opportunity to make our best album to date,” Demars said.

And that’s just what The Expendables did.

In the past, the band always felt rushed while recording their other albums.  This was often due to budgets or time restraints.

This time, The Expendables “saved money to make this album, took extra time off to write songs, and [they] took time off for the actual recording process.

And like all great and serious musicians, it all starts and ends with the love of music.

“Making music for me is a release of my feelings and views on life,” Demars said.  “If I wasn’t in a band I would be digging a hole for your fence post.”

But with all the fence post digging and partying with porn stars aside, The Expendables are not going anywhere, anytime soon.  To be expected in the future:

“Universe take over.  Watch out!  More touring, more music, more gang bangs.”

Miley Cyrus appeared on Good Morning America Friday morning to promote her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, reports People.

During her interview, Miley made it clear that she’s dropping the Disney look for good, saying, “This record is the first album where it’s completely me.”

“It’s always going to be hard because there’s so much stuff you’ve got to get through before you can get to the stuff that’s real,” says Miley.  “There’s all the people that are like, ‘Yes! It’s gonna be great! You’re the biggest thing ever!’ when really, I just want the truth. ”

As her Disney Channel series Hannah Montana comes to an end, Miley is set to show off what she says is really inside of her.  “You have to be who you are to the full,” she said during the interview.  ”There’s nothing that I’m holding back.  And that’s what I want to give to my girl fans.  Just be who you are.”

Miley also performed a duet of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” with none other than Bret Michaels himself on the morning show Friday.  “She’s a great musician and she’s one of those people who will make that huge transition into remaining a superstar. She can rock it for sure,” says Michaels.

The wait for Jay-Z’s much-hyped new album will be over sooner than expected thanks to an Internet leak, according to NME.com.

The Blueprint 3 will now be released tomorrow (Sept. 8), three days earlier than plan. This will mark Hova’s third album following his alleged retirement in 2003 and the third instalment in his critically-revered Blueprint series. The Sept. 11 release was originally planned to fall eight years to the day following the 2001 release of Blueprint.

Despite being overshadowed by the 9/11 attacks, Blueprint still sold 426,000 copies in its first week and has since been named a must-have album by nearly every music critic out there. It even squeezed into Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list at #464.

The online leak of the much-awaited Blueprint 3 was a minor hitch in Jay’s plan.

“I may be the most bootlegged artist in history,” he told MTV News. “It’s a preview. I’m excited for people to hear the album. I’m very proud of the work I’ve done, so enjoy it.”

The album, produced by Kanye West, will feature the already chart-topping single “Run This Town” with West and Rihanna. It hit number one in the UK Singles Chart this week, marking Jay’s first UK single in the top spot, according to MTV UK. Clearly he has won over the oft-pop-dominated UK music world, as he is scheduled to support Coldplay at their Wembley Stadium show later this month.

A North American tour has also been announced in support of the album, including an impressive road trip through the Great White North. Aside from the mandatory stops in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, Jay will play shows in Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, London, and Ottawa (much to my delight.) No details about supporting acts have been released, although rumours flew about Eminem joining him on the road.

As unlikely as that roster would be, Jay does have a show scheduled for Sept. 11 at Madison Square Garden in NYC as a charity event for New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund. Jay’s retirement concert at MSG in 2003 was a historical affair, in support of another of his acclaimed albums, The Black Album, and featuring every special guest from The Roots (his frequently employed backup band), Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Pharrell Williams to the mothers of both Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.

In his 40th year, Jay has a vice-like handle on the rap game and his plans for this fall only attest to it. Stay tuned to see how it pans out.

In May, Chris Brown posted a video online where he announced he’s working on a new album called “Grafitti.” Brown also said he planned on releasing a new single sometime in the summer. However, music is coming out before Brown intended.

“Countering misleading reports of ‘new’ Chris Brown music: there are no ‘new’ songs from Chris Brown currently being promoted by Chris or his record label,” said a representative for Jive Records in a statement. “There are several old demos circulating that are being falsely promoted as new material from Chris.”

According to MTV News, two singles have been released featuring Brown. These include “Not My Fault” and “Smash” .

Brown’s next LP has no official date of release according to MTV News.

After Brown’s alleged altercation with pop star Rihanna, he has been sentenced to 180 days of community service and five years’ probation.

She’s worked with some of the biggest songwriters in Nashville, contributed a song to the soundtrack of a hit movie and was personally sought out for collaboration by none other than Katy Perry – all before releasing her first album.

Clearly, Jessie James is not your average “new artist.” “I’ve been performing on stage since I was 9 years old,” the singer-songwriter, now 21, tells andPOP. “So it’s definitely something I’m used to. . . . I’ve been doing this forever.”

It’s all coming to a head with the impending release of James’s debut album via Mercury Records/Island Def Jam. Due in stores July 14, the album is a genre-hopping fusion of country, pop, rock and soul, driven by James’ powerhouse vocals. Lead single “Wanted” (co-written by “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi) is already playing on more than 60 stations across the U.S., and its music video was featured by iTunes as a “Video of the Week” last month.

For the performer born Jessica Rose James, the rise to stardom was a slow but steady process that began with a decidely atypical upbringing. A self-described “military brat,” James spent her childhood living in a number of different places in the U.S. and abroad – 14 in all. Looking back, she sees the constant uprooting as having been both a crutch and a blessing for her musical ambitions.

“I would move within six months or a year, so it took a long time to finally stay somewhere long enough so I could really get my music out there,” says James, who performed at events like the Republican Convention and the opening of Sea World as a youngster.

“But it also influenced me so I’m able to adapt in different situations, and I’m great with meeting lots of new people. It’s easy for me to visit different places and be comfortable.”

James finally landed in Georgia, where she lived for seven years. From there, she commuted back and forth to Nashville, working at the age of 15 with a string of top songwriters. The early experience taught James some valuable lessons about songwriting.

“I learned how organic it actually is,” she says. “I’m so glad I started in Nashville, because Nashville is the most traditional way of songwriting. It’s just you and the guitar and writing a song and a melody, and that’s that.”

The back-to-basics approach to writing is something James continues to take with all her songs, from the sassy “My Cowboy” – which received a shout-out from Perez Hilton on his blog last summer – to the no-holds-barred ballad “Guilty.”

“If I’m upset about something or angry, I tend to write it down – it’s my therapy,” she says. “I’ve never written anything that I didn’t mean. Everything that you hear me saying or singing is something that has happened to me and it’s a real situation.

James says inspiration can hit at any time. “My songwriting is very natural and I’m influenced by every day or anything that I’m doing. I could be on a plane and I could be crying about missing my mom or missing family, and I could just write out lyrics immediately. And it comes quick, ’cause I mean it and it’s real.”

Take “Guilty,” for example. The song, which James co-wrote with Josh Kear (a Grammy winner for Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”) and Mark Irwin (Garth Brooks), details the turbulence of James’ relationship at the time with an unidentified famous rocker.

“He was on tour all the time, and I was in Nashville by myself,” she says. “I was just waiting for him and I pretty much told myself he’s got to be cheating if he’s on tour – ‘I mean, he’s cheating, so –’ and in turn I cheated on him. And so that’s pretty much what the song is about.”

James says “Guilty” is her favourite song to perform. “It was a real story, and I think you can feel it when you hear me singing it and any time I play it.”

Not that James’ entire album is drawn from such an emotionally gut-wrenching place. One track that keeps things light and playful is “Blue Jeans,” a hip-hop-flavoured ode to the clothing staple buoyed by such empowering refrains as: “Don’t matter what ya wearin’ (hey hey)/It’s about the way you wear it (hey hey).”

The tune certainly caught the attention of the producers behind this year’s “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” The big-screen adaptation of Sophie Kinsella’s bestselling novel featured “Blue Jeans” on its soundtrack, much to James’ delight – and surprise.

“I didn’t even know it was going to be in the movie!” she says. “I’d been told that they had an interest in using the song ’cause it was obviously about shopping, but I didn’t know until I kept getting text messages on Christmas Day from people saying, “Oh my gosh, I heard your song in the movie trailer for ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ when I went to see ‘Marley and Me.’ I couldn’t believe it. . . . It was very exciting.”

Something else James is excited for is the release of her second single, “Bullet,” on which she shares writing credits with current princess of pop Katy Perry. James reveals that the collaboration actually came about two years ago, when a pre-chart-topping Perry got wind of the then-teenager’s work.

“She emailed me – and this was before she even blew up – (and) she was like, ‘I want to work with you, I think you’re great,’” says James. “And so we had our labels set us up together and we had a writing appointment.”

Besides writing together, Perry also played James two songs she had previously penned, “Bullet” and “Girl Next Door.” Both tracks will now appear on James’ album – “Bullet” features background vocals from Perry, while “Girl Next Door” is a poignant reminder about staying “that down-home girl” in the face of burgeoning stardom, says James. “I cried when I first heard it,” she recalls about the latter tune. “It’s so beautiful.”

So what was it like working with Miss Perry? James has nothing but high praise.

“She is just like you see her. She is a real artist; if I can say anything about her – she is real. She’s not phony and superficial or fake like a lot of these celebrity girls you see out there,” says James.

“She loves music and, you know, you hear a lot of the stuff that she sings on the radio and they’re really great radio songs. But deep down she is a deep, deep person and she writes deep music and real lyrics. . . . She’s worked hard her entire life and I really appreciate that from her. She’s never given up, and I think that’s a good lesson out there to a lot of people.”

Katy Perry’s not the only music heavyweight James is hob-knobbing with these days. In the run-up to her album’s release, she’s lined up several high-profile shows where she shares the bill with “American Idol” winner David Cook, including an upcoming June 20 date at the Red White and Boom Festival in Kansas.

It’s just the beginning of what James envisions as being a long, wide-ranging career. “I see myself doing this forever. If you look at Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn . . . they’re doing it still, they’re still making music, and that is what my plan is,” she says.

“And if for some reason I get too old, then I’m going to start producing artists myself. I want to produce artists and I want to have a label and I want to have my own publishing company. I plan to make a business out of my career.”

For the time being, James plans to keep putting out her personalized brand of tell-it-like-it-is music. She draws inspiration from her music idols including Janis Joplin, Bobbie Gentry and Shania Twain, whom she lauds for being “ballsy,” strong women.

“I get so frustrated when I turn on the radio and there’s a girl singing, ‘Please come back to me’ – I mean, you’ve got to be kidding me!” she says with a laugh.

“I think it’s so important to empower women. You can be confident and you can be single, or you need to have your man earn the respect or the guy will walk all over you. You do the walking.”

After a stint co-hosting the celebrity news show “Extra,” Mark McGrath is back full-time as the frontman of Sugar Ray as the band preps for the release of their first full album of new material in six years.

“Music for Cougars,” the follow-up to 2003′s “In Pursuit of Leisure,” comes out July 21 and will be supported by a summer tour of clubs and festivals.

In an interview with Billboard, McGrath said the group – which still has all of its original members after 21 years – jumped at the chance to record a new album.

“I left ‘Extra’ in September and focused full time on the band and making this record,” he told the magazine. “It’s purely a passion, a labour of love basically making this record.”

He added, “We have realistic views of how the music industry is today. I know people aren’t sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for a Sugar Ray record. But that wasn’t the point. It was purely because we love to make music.”

According to Billboard, the album sees the band returning to its signature sound of “lazy grooves, easy beats, and catchy harmonies.” Recorded in Los Angeles, “Cougars” also features guest appearances from the likes of Rivers Cuomo and Donovan Frankenreiter.

First single “Boardwalk” will be released to radio in May. The band will follow up on the album’s release with an extensive U.S. tour that kicks off July 24 in Hankinson, ND and runs through Sept. 26 in San Diego, CA.

Sugar Ray had a string of reggae-tinged radio hits in the late-1990s and early-2000s, including “Fly” and “Every Morning.” They released a best-of album in 2005 and were featured on the soundtrack to the 2007 computer-animated flick “Surf’s Up.”

Kings of Leon have extended their current North American tour into the summer in support of their fourth album, “Only By The Night.”

The southern rockers, who are in the midst of a spring trek that takes them to Europe in June, will return to their home continent in August for six newly-added dates.

These include three Canadian stops: Edmonton on Aug. 12, Calgary on Aug. 13 and Vancouver on Aug. 15. Tickets for those shows went on sale Friday.

Released last September, “Only By The Night” debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and received three Grammy nominations, including best album. The band eventually took home a win for best rock performance by a duo or group with vocals for the single “Sex on Fire.”

The foursome have already begun writing songs for a new album, which guitarist Matthew Followill says may be “a little grungier” than their previous releases. “We’re touring until the end of this year so we can’t start until 2010 but it’ll come out probably fall of 2010,” Followill told BBC 6 Music recently.
