Everyone Who Stars in an NBC Show in a Super Bowl Commercial

If you’re not a fan of football, you may watch the Super Bowl for the amazingly expensive commercials.

Since the big game airs on NBC, actors from some of the biggest shows on the network got together for a musical number. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin from “30 Rock” started off, with appearances from the cast of “Community”, “Parks and Recreation”, “Smash” and my favourite: “Law and Order: SVU”.

The number ended with everybody out on the street dancing like they’re filming an episode of “Glee”. It’s cheesy but endearing. If you love to watch NBC, you’ll appreciate this commercial.

The Situation Lands T.V. Role

The Situation is taking his G-T-L to the suburbs.

The Jersey Shore star is set to play himself in an episode of the NBC comedy Suburbatory. He’ll be seen DJing at a high-school school dance. I’m sure the extras on the set will be excited about that.

Situation is following in the footsteps of Vinny, who was recently seen on 90210, playing an arrogant Hollywood actor. It wasn’t anything to write home about, though. Vinny could have used some acting classes, as I’m sure the Situation will desperately need too. Although he did appear on a season of Dancing with the Stars, it wasn’t necessarily “acting”.

The Gossip Cop says the episode staring the guido should air sometime next year.

Courtney Cox and David Arquette Sell Sitcoms

Most divorced couples stay far, far away from each other. Courtney Cox and her ex, David Arquette are doing the complete opposite.

The couple recently separated after 11 years of marriage when rumours of David’s infidelity made headlines. The two have a daughter, Coco, who is now 7. To prove to Coco and everyone else they can still be model parents, they managed to stay friendly and respectful.

David is currently a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and Courtney has been seen in the audience cheering him on. Cute! I can’t list that many broken-up couples that can still manage to be in the same room together, let alone go on to produce comedy shows.

The pair have sold a sitcom to NBC, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It’s called Ten Years and much like their own lives, it’s the telling of a modern couple going through marital problems. But the work doesn’t stop there!

They’re also in talks to sell another sitcom, Skinny Girl, to ABC. This show follows the life of a former fat girl who’s trying to maintain her weight while working at a greasy diner. It doesn’t sound as interesting or intelligent than Ten Years but if the two manage to sell both sitcoms to both networks, we can expect them to stay side by side for a long time. Maybe even rekindle lost love, later down the road. It’s all about staying together for the kids, right?

Kelly Clarkson Wants to Appear on Parks and Recreation

We all know singers crossover on to television at one point or another.

Kelly Clarkson, of American Idol fame, has been seen and heard everywhere lately to promote her new album Stronger. The other day the Idol champ took to her blog to mention her desire to appear on the NBC hit sitcom Parks & Recreation.

“It’s hilarious! I am a bad actress but maybe I could play a bad actress! I would nail that! I need to be in a scene with Ron Swanson. I love all of them but the trucker stache gets me every time,” she wrote.

The first time Kelly Clarkson got bit by the acting bug was in 2003 when her and Idol runner-up Justin whats-his-face-no-one-really-cared-about-him starred in the summer flop From Justin To Kelly. That movie tanked at the box office faster than Lindsay Lohan at a coke buffet. But now, it seems Kelly Clarkson is looking back in laughter, realizing she made a bad call. Good on her for owning up to her failures!

Kelly is a very sweet, bubbly girl and she would indeed perk up the NBC show. Lots of famous stars have made a cameo on Amy Phoeler’s show, including comedian Louis C.K. and basketball legend Detlef Schrempf. I’m sure the Parks and Rec department can make a little room for an American Idol contestant in the near future.

Snoop Dogg Hits Primetime T.V.

For shizzle, the notorious rapper and bonafide gangster Snoop Dogg is set to star in a NBC sitcom.

MTV News reported that the “D-O-Double G” is teaming up with the comedy writer behind Everybody Hates Chris to deliver a family sitcom for NBC.

The rapper, who’s had a bit of camera experience already, thanks to his reality show Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood on E!, will stay true to his personal character and play the father on the show.

But a sitcom isn’t the only thing Snoop’s gunning for. According to CTV, he also has plans to launch an American Idol-esque talent show, discovering young stars from deprived U.S. areas.

It seems network T.V. is ODing on cheesy, mass-produced talent shows already and so Snoop may not get the ratings he wants. And, is network T.V. really where Snoop wants to be? Instead of toning down his antics and keeping it PG, Snoop can get more explicit in an HBO series. After all, we’d rather see Snoop with gold chains and massive blunts than velor sweatpants and minivans.

Nicole Richie Joins NBC’s Fashion Star

Fashion designer Nicole Richie has earned the title of celebrity mentor on the new NBC series Fashion Star according to People.

She will be joining singer Jessica Simpson, menswear designer John Varvatos and host Elle Macpherson who will all be working with aspiring designers as they compete for a chance to win the title of ‘fashion star’ and a multi-million dollar contract that will allow them to start their own brands.

Richie’s fashion resume includes a House of Harlow jewelry collection, footwear, eye wear and handbag lines.

Not only does she have a successful women’s collection, but also a maternity line called Pea in the Pod.

With such an extraordinary group of mentors and designers, the show looks promising.

NBC Orders A Music-Heavy Lineup After ‘The Voice’ Success

NBC is banking on music-oriented shows after the success of ‘The Voice,’ reports Billboard.

The network will host musical Mondays this fall, reserving the 8 to 10 p.m. block for music competitions and the 10 p.m. hour for ‘The Playboy Club.’ The new Broadway-themed ‘Smash’ will then take over the 10 p.m. slot at mid-season.

Music will have a significant role in these two new NBC dramas. ‘Smash’ tells the story of a team working on a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, and ‘The Playboy Club’ is set in the early ’60s in Chicago, where the actors-singers portray various musical numbers.

Mondays, beginning in September, will start with the a capella competition show ‘The Sing-Off.’ The show, which has featured Nicole Scherzinger, Ben Folds and Sean Stockman as judges, has aired the last two seasons between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

‘The Voice,’ which has had only three episodes air, will then take over the 8-10 slot once a winner is declared in ‘The Sing-Off.’

As far as networks go, if it’s bringing you viewers, do it to death. I personally only watch ‘The Voice,’ and that’s enough for me. But I know many who will tune in – at least these shows sound better than ‘Glee.’

Meredith Vieira Leaves ‘The Today Show’

It’s a sad day for morning television.

‘The Today Show’ co-host Meredith Vieira is leaving after five years. As her voice quivered and as she fought back tears, Vieira made the announcement today, saying “I’ve decided to leave ‘Today’ in June.”

Vieira took the co-host seat next to Matt Lauer five years ago, replacing Katie Couric.

Meredith says she made the decision “after months of personal reflection and private conversations with my family and friends.”

She added, “I’m really sad because … for the past 10 years this has been my second home.”

Vieira says she wanted to spend more time with her husband, Richard, and her kids. The famous television personality, who also hosts ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,’ noted “I really hope to stay with the NBC family … that is my goal.”

Lauer said Vieira “has brought class and dignity and talent and a joy of life to this show for the last five years.”

Vieira will be replaced by Ann Curry.

All the women of ‘Today’ keep leaving, yet Lauer remains. I wonder if he’s the problem. Or maybe he just really loves his job. I would, if I was in his position! I wish Vieira the best in whatever she decides to take on next.

Drake Performs At A Bar Mitzvah

If you’re Jewish, you may be able to get Drake to appear at your festivities!

Former NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker reportedly shelled out $250,000 to throw a bar mitzvah for his son Andrew on Saturday night. And with that money, he was able to get rap sensation Drake to perform at the party.

Zucker originally wanted to hire Kanye West to perform, but after learning that the rapper’s fee would total $1 million, he opted for Drake.

The event, which took place at the Four Seasons New York, included a performance by rapper Drake and also featured a photo booth, bracelet-making lounge and station to make customized phone covers. Customized Converse sneakers were handed out to guests as gifts. Sounds like a sweet party to me. Especially the free shoes part.

Among those in attendance were Katie Couric, who previously worked with Zucker on NBC’s Today and is now developing a syndicated talk show with him.

Wow, guess Drake is still pretty humble to appear at such a low-profile party for such a low cost. Sure, it’s still a lot of money, but compared to other artist’s fees that seems pretty reasonable.

Matt Lauer Gets Greedy

NBC’s Today has been the number one morning newscast in the United States for over 15 years and has apparently brought NBC floods of revenue. Now, Matt Lauer, one of the shows most recognizable anchors, wants his piece of the peacock.

TMZ is reporting that Lauer is asking for $25 million a year. He currently squeaks by with $17 million a year, thus Lauer feels an $8 million raise is in order.

Reports have surfaced that Lauer is looking to leave The Today Show to perhaps man his own talk-show, however reps are insisting Lauer’s moves are simply a well-timed negotiation for more money, as co-host Meredith Viera has announced she will be leaving in September and the show could not afford to lose both.

Lauer is one of the best in the business. I understand he’s asking for a lot of money, but in relative terms, he deserves it. He handles all controversy like a composed professional (like when Tom Cruise called him “glib” on-air) and never shies away from important questions.

I doubt I am the only one who thinks NBC should, in the words of Deion Sanders, “pay da man!”

Christina Aguilera to be the next J.Lo?

After reports of Aguilera being in talks with producers from the new NBC show, The Voice, the news has finally broken that this genie-in-a-bottle is set to join Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine (from Maroon 5, for those who have forgotten) as the third host on the Mark Burnett singing competition.

According to Perez Hilton, Aguilera issued a statement, saying:

“I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful project that celebrates music and the talent behind it. To be given the opportunity to help shape new artists’ careers and mentor them to see their dreams come to fruition is a task I welcome with open arms. I am so happy to be working with fellow Grammy Award winners Adam and Cee Lo as I feel there is so much we can all bring to The Voice.”

After all the professional setbacks this talented singer has had recently – like getting arrested with her boyfriend for public intoxication and driving under the influence, shortly after tripping onstage at the Grammy’s during her Aretha Franklin tribute – we can’t wait to see this 30-year-old get back on her feet!

“When I decided to produce ‘The Voice,’ I immediately knew that my first choice for a female coach had to be Christina Aguilera,” Burnett said in the statement. “Christina has a perfect voice and is an undeniable force in the music business. She is the epitome of ‘The Voice.’ ”

Only problem is, will this new show be able to compete with American Idol? We already saw what happened to Paula Abdul’s Live to Dance, which after one season is reportedly over – let’s just hope that this one will have a longer life than that!

Adrianne Palicki Casted as TV Wonder Woman

As reported by EW.com, leading television network, NBC has just revealed that Adrianne Palicki will be playing the title character of Wonder Woman on the reboot of the 1970s classic superheroess series.

The “Friday Night Lights” actress beat out her competition to win the coveted role of Wonder Woman, the voluptuous crime-fighting beauty. NBC has enlisted Boston Legal writer David E. Kelley to remake the series. The character will be intact with her trademark lasso, cuffs, and airplane.

The series will stay true to its roots as the DC Comics title with a twist. Be sure that this series will be contemporary and sexy to meet the needs of Palicki fans and “Wonder Woman” fans alike.

Will Ferrell to Join ‘The Office’

With the most beloved character, Michael Scott, and actor on ‘The Office,” Steve Carell, leaving NBC had to do something so that Carell will go out with a bang. Therefore, NBC hired on Will Ferrell to reunite with his Anchorman co-star for the end of the season.

According to InsideTV.EW.Com, Ferrell will have a four episode run and will be playing a branch manager who arrives from the home office and is entirely incompetent just like Michael Scott. Three episodes will feature both Carell and Farrell as Carell is leaving four episodes before the season’s finale.

We’ve seen the hilarity that ensues when Ferrell and Carell play alongside each other. “The Office” should prove to be no different as the actors have a natural comedic chemistry. Ferrell will also help to boost the shows ratings and perhaps draw an even bigger audience due to his popularity.

Conan O’Brien Breaks All Ties with Jay Leno

That may sound like an obvious title considering Conan O’Brien has left NBC, but when asked by Larry King whether he’s spoken to Leno, he replied by saying, “No. … There’s nothing, really, for either of us to talk about.”

O’Brien also made it clear that he’s over the entire “Tonight Show” debacle at NBC, saying “I don’t want to think about it anymore.”

During a March interview on Larry King, Leno was asked if he felt Conan got screwed. Leno explained “Conan got screwed. I got screwed. This is TV. The reason show business pays a lot of money is so when you get screwed you’ve got something left over.”

NBC’s 30 Rock Renewed, But Moved to 10pm

30 Rock, the show-within-a-show brainchild of Tina Fey based on her time at Saturday Night Live, has been renewed for another season.

Perez Hilton reports that the show is indeed safe for another season, but its timeslot will be bumped to 10pm. The show is now nestled in between ratings losers Parks and Recreation and Outsourced.

We love watching Tracy Jordan’s crazy antics, but Outsourced has got to go!

Will you tune into 30 Rock at 10pm this January?

Chelsea Handler’s New Show

By now, Chelsea Handler is a house hold name. We all know Handler from her wildly popular talk show on E!, Chelsea Lately and more so by her vulgar humor and irreverence. Due to her successes, Handler was already commissioned by E! to do a new sitcom entitled, After Lately.

According to Perezhilton.com, Handler has just landed a deal with NBC to turn her books (My Horizontal Life, Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea) into a primetime comedy series. The books are semi autobiographical, so the title character of the show will be named Chelsea. It has been reported that the character of the show will posses many of the same characteristics as Handler herself.

Handler’s novels describe everything from raunchy sexscapades to hilarious run-ins with a multitude of characters. The upcoming show is sure to be a hit, but how far can they take the humor? NBC may have to push some boundaries on this one.

Ricky Gervais Taking ‘The Office’ To China

So incompetent bosses and workplaces aren’t unique to the Western world it turns out. The New York Post reports that Gervais is taking “The Office” to China with a Chinese version of the popular program.

“I have some amazing news,” Gervais wrote on his blog. “We are about to start work on developing a Chinese ‘The Office.’ How cool is that?”

Gervais also confirmed that he will not be taking over for Steve Carell on NBC’s “The Office” after the next season.

“I’m not taking over from Steve Carell and will just continue to make millions for doing f*** all,” he wrote, “because I created the show and all the characters, and own the format and it’s being syndicated now and I get paid every time any episode of any version is played anywhere in the world.”

Steve Carell will be leaving his post as Michael Scott on NBC’s hit show “The Office” after the upcoming season. When asked last night by Craig Ferguson why he was leaving, Carell explained he didn’t know the answer. He later rebuffed saying it was to spend more time with his family.

“Honestly, to spend more time with my family,” said the actor. Ferguson replied, “That’s usually what politicians say when they’re caught doing something with their pee-pees … He says, ‘Well, I’m retiring, but not because of what you think — just to spend a little more time with my family.’

Definitely the show will be different without the legendary Michael Scott. Anybody have any views on how writers will get rid of the Michael Scott character?

Same Sex Couples Now Allowed on NBC’s ‘Today’ Wedding Contest

NBC’s ‘Today’ is now changing its rules to allow same sex couples to participate in its annual contest to apply for a wedding ceremony conducted on morning TV.

PopEater reports that NBC executives met with gay and lesbian activists to discuss this matter. NBC has extended the deadline to Monday to allow for more eligible couples to apply.

“We’re thrilled that `Today’ show’s ‘Modern Wedding Contest’ now recognizes what most fair-minded Americans have already concluded – a wedding celebrates love and commitment, whether the spouses are straight or gay,” said Jarrett Barrios, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

NBC has apparently received many upset viewer emails and phone calls for not allowing same sex couples to participate.

“Moving forward, we ensure that our future wedding contests will be inclusive to all couples,” NBC said.

More Revenge for Conan O’Brien – Conan is Nominated for an Emmy and Jay Leno Nominated for Nothing

Here is more sweet revenge for Conan O’Brien against his former colleagues at NBC and Jay Leno.

It was recently announced that Conan was nominated for an Emmy. Conan will be going up against “The Colbert Report,” “The Daily Show,” “Real Time With Bill Maher” and “Saturday Night Live” in the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series category. Jay Leno was not nominated.

Interestingly, Conan’s own people submitted the work for nomination, while NBC submitted Jay for nomination, reports PopEater.

Conan’s new Late Night show starts on TBS in November. TBS has launched a campaign to nominate Conan for an Emmy. If he wins, undoubtedly he is going to make his new bosses at TBS very happy!
