The holidays are quickly approaching so it’s time to run down andPOP’s top 5 gift list for the geek you love.
1. iPod Nano – Red ($199,$249(USD), www.apple.com/ipodnano/red/)
The latest iPod release from Apple tops our list of the top tech gadgets for your holiday shopping list. What’s so great about this iPod other than the stuff we already know like awesome design, tons of song storage and just being plain cool? Well this iPod is part of the (PRODUCT) Red initiative, www.joinred.com. For every (PRODUCT) Red Nano that Apple sells, $10 will go towards the Global Fund to Fight Aids in Africa. The Nano comes in two sizes, starting at $199(USD) for the 4GB model(about 1000 songs) and 249.99(USD) for the 8GB model (about 2000 songs).
2. iPod Shuffle – $79(USD)
Okay, so the iPods take the top two spots on andPOP’s gadgety gift list, but who can blame us, they’re just that awesome. The brand new “matchbook” size iPod shuffle is an awesome, more affordable gift for just about anyone. Use it jog or just wear it as a fashion statement, either way, the Shuffle screams cool! The new shuffle can’t be used as a USB key like the old one, but just look at the size, you can’t help but want one. Buy an iPod from Apple during the holiday season and get free laser engraving and free shipping. Could this get any more perfect?
3. XBOX 360 – ($299.99, $399.99(USD) $2000 to get one, or camp out all night like getting the PS3. With tons of new games out for the holiday season like Gears of War, Call of Duty 3, College Hoops 2K7 and Tony Hawk’s project 8 the XBOX might be a more reasonable gift this December than a PS3. Also consider buying XBOX Live to go along with the system. XBOX Live allows for awesome online play so you never have to be bored playing against the computer.
4. Blackberry Pearl (www.blackberrypearl.com)
Not just a phone, not just a Blackberry. RIM’s latest foray into the consumer market definitely looks like a winner. The Blackberry Pearl combines the functionality of traditional, business type Blackberrys, with the coolness of regular mobile phones by adding a camera and media player to the device, while cutting it to about half the size of traditional Blackberrys. Talk on the phone, send emails and instant messages, even use your favorite instant messenger (AIM, Yahoo, Google, MSN), but add features like a camera and media player (expandable memory capacity) and you definitely have a winner. The Pearl is sophisticated enough for any business user and fun enough for any teen. It’s a perfect mix. Don’t overlook the Blackberry Pearl when you’re doing your holiday shopping this year.
5. Garmin Street Pilot c550 ($749.99(USD) www.garmin.com)
Have you ever gotten lost driving? Have you ever just wanted to hear a cool voice tell you when to turn left or make a right? If you’ve ever considered getting a GPS device for your car, you should definitely check out the new Street Pilot c550 by Garmin. This GPS device does all the basics you need, like maps and directions, but thats only the beginning. The c550 uses Bluetooth wireless technology to let you make hands-free calls. The device also has an integrated traffic receiver and an MP3 player.
What’s new or cool that maybe should have made the list?
1. PS3 (www.playstation.com)
The Playstation 3 looks like it might be great. It has similar technology to the XBOX360, and many similar games. Unfortunately, the PS3 is too scarce right now, and prices are high. Trying to get one might just be too much of a hassle. However, if you do get your hands on one, it might just make the gift that much more special.
2. Wii www.wii.nintendo.com
No I haven’t forgotten about Nintendo’s next generation gaming console, the Wii, I just haven’t made up my mind about it yet. It’s different and that definitely seems cool, but, it’s different and that could definitely mean trouble. I certainly can’t wait to try out the Wii, because the motion sensor remote means some games will be absolutely amazing. But since I haven’t had a chance to use it and it’s so different from other gaming consoles, I can’t recommend it just yet. As a huge plus however, in usual Nintendo fashion, the Wii is priced considerably lower than the XBOX 360 and the PS3 at just $249.99.
3. Zune www.zune.net
What’s the Zune you ask? Exactly my point. Microsoft’s latest attempt to enter the portable digital media market is going just as well as Ron Artest’s foray into rapping. I’m not kidding. The Zune will not be a hot product this Christmas and the number one and two gadgets on my list above are only part of the reason why. I plan to do a full review of the Zune sometime soon to give some more details regarding my discontent. But until then, if you still don’t believe me, check out the ipod, nano, xbox

Just in time for the holiday season, XSKN has launched two new products for iPods.
The iBuds, an accessory for iPod headphones, will amplify music, block outside noise and enhance basstones. According to XSKN, they are also thin, soft, comfortable and washable. At US$4.95 for three pairs, they definitely seem like a great buy for your Christmas stockings.
To go along with that great present in the stocking, take a look at the iART REVO, just announced for iPod Nanos. They come in three colours. The “1st Snow Camouflage” is your traditional green, black and white camouflage design while the two other designs – “Beach” (yellow, blue, black and white) and the “Code Blue” (light blue, dark blue, black, gray, white) – take a plunge from the traditional camouflage look. At US$29.95 for the silicone art case, screen protector and twist clip, they’re a cool looking, hip alternative to the standard five iPod Nano colours.
We’re hoping to get our hands on these products soon to do a full review, but for now, you can check them out the same way we did at www.xskn.com.
